ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? by The Oracle

That was miserable. Melbourne waved the white flag in the first quarter and, apart from a handfull of triers, the rabble that travelled to Sydney humiliated the oldest football club on the planet with a heartless, soulless effort.

One has to wonder what most of them were doing out there because it didn't resemble the game being played by the opposition.

If they keep playing like that, the supporters will stop coming and they'll have to ask the doorkeeper the question from the title of this short article.

Short, because there really is nothing worthwhile to write about.

A year ago we drew with this team, and they didn't have their big outs (Goodes etc.) that they do today.

A year on we have gained Clark, a year of supposed development, a bunch of new "modern coaches", a highly regarded sports scientist, and a football mentor (Craig) yet we find ourselves completely out of the game at half time (if not quarter) and AGAIN completely insipid in pretty much every aspect.

What has happened in a year that has led to this?

It's very easy for Neeld to constantly blame the unprofessional environment he inherited, but we are worse now than we've ever been.

At some point Neeld has to take responsibility for what he has implemented, which thus far is uncompetitive, gutless, pissweak garbage.

Not for me. We could start with the massive fall-off in form from the "senior" players: Sylvia, Green, Davey, even Jamar and Moloney. As Paul Roos said in his commentary, you can have all the team meetings etc. you want, but the players are just NOT putting it together out on the field, under pressure.

I dont like blaming coaches, it isnt necessarily the answer, but I will ask one question...What has Mark Neeld bought to this club?

We are finished. No one will want to play for us. There are no stars in our team, most of the players are substandard.

What's wrong with Grimes? The guy has lost all confidence. Same with Trengove. Massive mistake IMO putting those two under so much pressure with the captaincy.

Here here, well done to the lads, that number nine is quite a good lad, have we booked in for the lodge so we can take the Range Rovers up there for the start of the ski season?

(I want to KILL SOMETHING)

It is very bad play. Chipping the ball around in the back line, losing the ball and they kick a goal. This may be the lowest score a team had in a game of football.

Exactly and then someone here was defending out defenders. Its obvious our opponents know to just smash our appalling midfield, press it into the forward 50 and wait for the defenders to cough it up.

I was out the back of the members at half-time having a kick of the footy with my boy - fortunately at 2 he had no idea what was happening. The Swans supporters are a mellow bunch and just kept coming up asking ``what happened''? This old bloke said to me he hadn't seen worse footy in his life (and he looked 100). I tell you what, it's hard to maintain the passion for the Dees from Sydney. I was excited about tonight. Everything was terrific except for the footy. Conditions were perfect and we were lamentable.

How does a side that won 8&1/2 games last year and could have won two more, thought they had a bad season last year, turn up and serve rubbish like this year...... The media keep blaming the playing group, but I'. Not so sure

Bailey stuffed this club down the toilet.

Neeld et al have pulled the chain.

Remember:

  • we are now paying 100% salary cap
  • coahing panel cost must have gone up 400%

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
