  1. The thing that every has to remember is that essentially the same playing group has now been through 4 Senior Coaches. I remember when Viney was interim coach, everyone was saying that at least the players will be playing, tough accountable football, well it didn't happen then and I have a feeling that it will not easily happen with any future coach. This player group is rotten to the core, once again they threaten the club (e.g: we will leave) if you don't sack the coach. They have too much influence in the operation of the club, if I disagreed with the way my boss did things, I may loath it privately, but in the workplace I would get on with the job, because I'm an adult and I am getting paid to do the said job. Honestly.....
  2. Did you consider that Neeld's gameplan isn't being tweaked as such, but is just following a staged implementation? Get the defensive work up to an acceptable level, then focus on switching the play and running through the corrider. FWIW I think that when we see Neeld's gameplan fully implemented, that we will play a Collingwood Gameplan when the opposition has the ball (The defensive gameplan) and a Geelong Gameplan when we have the ball (The offensive gameplan). Once were fit enough opposition teams will find it hard to combat both of these in the space of one game, and we will be able to cut through opposition zones. (This all requires our players to improve over the next couple of years though).
  3. I was really pleased with the effort of the Boys today! Things look like they are going to turn around soon!
  4. I think the point that Neeld was making, is that Jack Watts as the ability to play any position on the ground just about. I'm thinking that Mark Neeld is possibly thinking that Jack Watts can play like a taller version of Scott Pendlebury. Both played basketball as juniors, both have elite skills and marking capabilities and both are good at ground level. Both will/have the capabiltiy to play forward/half-forward/ midfield as well. I also personally think Watts should have played a siginifcant amount of game time in the middle this week in order to get him involved more, instead of being dropped to Casey, this approach seemed to work with Morton last week. No need to worry about Watts everyone, he is one of the most skillfull players in our side. He will be a superstar of the competition, I just hope it is with the Demons.
  5. Our coach for 2012 will be Brenton Sanderson or Mark Neeld, both are outstanding assistant coaches, both have come from succesful sides, both understand the modern game and both are men capable of growing with our side as our side continues to grow.
  6. Who cares if we 'tanked'? It really didn't take much for Bailey to implement, we were horrible anyway. Seriously if we are to win a premiership within the next few years it will be because of those picks that we have gained in the last few years. So everyone should stop complaining about it and saying that it had a detrimental affect on our club culture. West Coast tanked last year and they are now top 5, it has really hurt their culture hasn't it? Collingwood tanked to get Pendles and Daisy and won the Premiership last year, it has really hurt their culture hasn't it? There are many more examples of this as outlined by others above. I'm sure that if we had won 1-2 extra games back in 2008 and 2009 that we would be pushing for the top 4 atm, since our Club 'Culture' would be so strong, please... The problem in our culture is not from the 'tanking' but from the remanents of the Daniher years. Our premiership window won't open until all of those that were involved in the Daniher era are gone. Bailey's biggest problem was that he couldnt move them all on quick enough and they had the chance to influence the next batch of youngsters that then came into our club. Our next Coach will have a handful on his plate to try and eradicate this virus that has infected our club. If your upset with the club 'tanking' send a letter to the club telling them that the players have lost part of their "souls" and that to forget this shameful chapter in MFC History, we should trade out the fruits of our 'tanking' (e.g Trengove, Blease) and Watts, Jurrah, Scully, (if you believe that the reason we finished last was beacuse we were tanking)or the two compo picks we get for him, to other more deserving clubs. Four of those five (blease undecided) are guns and without them where would we be? -Even worse off then we are now. Two of them that were playing on Saturday were only two of three players on the day that actually tried. There are bigger things that affect a Club culture and togetherness far more than 'tanking'. E.g: the ridiculous amount payed to players to kick a ball around (and it will only get worse with the CBA to come in soon) and poor on-field leadership. (And for those that are saying that JMAC should have played on an extra year, he missed rounds 12-17 last year from what was only an initial 1-2 week injury, he could have missed half of 2011 for all we know. I had no problem with him being moved on, it was the way that it was handled that was the problem.)
  7. I am Disappointed, poor Decision by the MFC IMHO, he deserved to see out the end of the season at least. He gave away 3 years of his coaching career to make it so that we could draft the best talent in the country. I am concerned that the players can have so much say at the end of the day as to how the senior management of our club is structured.I was undecided as to whether Dean was a good coach or not, but I would have just like to have seen him given more of a chance. Want the coach sacked? Then get thumped by 186 points. The playing group is the real problem and I am afraid that by sacking the coach it will allow others to avoid scrutiny and hide behind Bailey's sacking.I think there is more to this story then what we know and hopefully if there is anymore rot in the club it is eliminated now, I dont care who it is, they get shown the door just like Bailey has, we cant have one set of standards for our management teams and then seperate standards for our players. GO DEES! (P.S I look forward to Brenton Sanderson or Mark Neeld coaching us in 2012).
  8. No not on my T.V, it is halftime, I am watching through my foxtel box so maybe they have routed the live feed to the foxtel box by accident.
  9. I actually live in Melbourne and I am getting the game live as we speak on 7.
  10. Does anyone know why the game is live on Channel 7?
  11. 1) When a team talks themselves up, they are destined to get flogged. (Directed to North Melbourne). Oh how sweet it was watching them get destroyed, cannot stand that club. Brad Scott in his presser said that Dane Swan only performed marginally better than Daniel Wells and that Pendelebury only performed marginally better than Ziebell, - talk about delusional. Collingwood are very very good, their ability to run and run is most impressive. 2) Carlton are the great pretenders (so far), they have only beat one side in the eight this year, that is the Swans twice. Bulldogs are not as bad as what people thought, still have an elite/solid midfield. 3) West Coast have a very impressive press and a very intelligent coach, tanked last year and are now killing it. Worsfold is one of the best coaches in the comp IMO. 4) When Melbourne is not playing, I have little to look forward to on the weekend, from a football perspective. 5) If we lose to Port at all this year (injuries permitting- but even then?) we should bring in all our players currently playing at Casey and see if they can do a better job of playing AFL. (lol, just joking- we are not going to lose to Port- Surely? Right?)
  12. I am of the opinion that Bailey Should be given one more year to see what he has got. Remember this year we have had more than our fair share of injuries and we have a very young list as noted by others previously. This is really just Bailey's second year, since in'08,'09 we were in the midst of a complete cleanout. However, if it is decided that Bailey is not the one to take us foward from 2012-, then a phone call to Brenton Sanderson should be made. Brenton Sanderson's C.V is pretty impressive: 209 AFL games played- Adelaide (6), Collingwood (4) and Geelong (199). Played as a Half Back Flanker at Geelong, which requires him to know how to read the play and how to implement defensice setups as a player. 2001 Carji Greeves Medalist. Assitant Coach at: Port Adelaide (2006) (Recruitment/ Development Role) Geelong (2007- Present) (Defensive Coach)- Involved in Three Grand Finals in that time (for a return of two premierships), in one of the most successful teams of the past decade. - Currently Senior Assitant Coach to Chris Scott at Geelong. (After being Seriously Considered for the Senior Position at Geelong). He was strongly recommended by Mark Thompson to be the next Senior Coach of Geelong and praised for his analysis of opposition teams. He has also been commended for the way in which he relates to the players, has been known to handle game day pressure well and helped turn Harry Taylor into a premier backman. Sanderson is also out of contract for the 2012 Season. He also would most likely be a cheaper alternative than a Malthouse or a Roos and maybe a better one.
  13. Exactly! The irony is that Hird and Essendon were being used as an example by people that wanted Bailey sacked, as to how a ''good coach'' can turn around a club's fortune's in a short period of time. It is funny when people's arguments fall down around them. Even if Essendon come good during the rest of the year no-one can say that it has been a resounding success. It is about the players performing on gameday. While the coach can help them get that bit extra in a tight-close match, in a routing there is normally little that a coach can do. So why doesn't everyone lay off Bailey until the end of the year and give him and the players a chance to show how they have developed. This is really just the second year of Bailey's tenure since the first two were just a complete rightoff/ cleanout. It is bad enough that the media are bagging us above and beyond what they do to other teams, let alone us giving them more ammo by eating our own, as so to speak. This year has not been a true indicator of where we are at since we have more than our fair share of injuries. (Btw, I dont know if Bailey is the right man for the job, but he has to be given a chance, we have the benefit of time on our side since we have a young list, if it isn't working out at the end of next year, then by all means MFC can start to shop around,).
  14. This poll is about half a season too early. Also in my opinion your poll is biased with 75% of the avaliable options having a negative connotation attached to it and the only option that is positive appears to be sarcastic in nature anyway. I know that your OP says otherwise, but by the creation of the poll in this manner it ppears that it is contrived in such a way but to be pre-disposed to only one real avaliable outcome which is to 'bag' Bailey. Unfair poll IMO.
  15. They are too good, we are not the first side that they have monstered all year.
  16. If we win this we will make the eight this year I reckon, when is the last time we beat north? let along with so many of our players out.
  17. I just heard about this on the couch as well:( Even when we have a good win, we are not allowed to enjoy the week. Seriously fml( times the amount of melbourne supporters, times double for Jamar, Grimes, Trenners, Scully, Jordie) 'sigh'.
  18. Why hasn't Petterd been in the side much this year? He has kicked 4 now!
  19. G'day Demonlanders, I have been a long time reader of this site, but have never felt the urge to post before, but thought that with all the (understandable) emotion on this site tonight, it was time to start a thread for (I hope) logical discussion of the problems that are present with how on-field performance and recommandations that people wish to put forward in order to rectify said apparent problems. I would ask that people provide well thought out responses in this thread, not simple quips like "Bailey should be sacked" or "X player is a hack" there is plenty of other threads about atm to do that in. So I will will start with what I see to be two problems that our team (and coach) face with their on field/gameday performance. 1) Intensity- or lack thereof, during the course of tonight's game it was completely lacking for the entire four quarters, players appear unwilling to literally will themselves to the contest and to work for each other. Remedy- People will suggest a change of coach, which is one potential answer, another would be to put certain players on notice, potentially fast-track younger players with leadership courses/training/ give more responsibility on gameday, since the intensity comes from this area, an area which we are lacking in atm. 2)Structure- or lack thereof, during the game, we continually left West Coast players loose and when we did gain possession of the ball we looked up to see no-one present and then proceeded to kick the ball around until we kicked it to a contest which one of their talls would then mark, also the lack of forward players in our 50 for a majority of the game. Remedy- Set a base structure and stick to it, mandate that we are to have at least 3 players in the forward 50/ vincinity of for the course of the game, make their backs more accountable not the other way around. Set up at clearences- if they start to win the ball out of the middle then place a extra player to cut off their 'rovers'. Our players need to be proactive, not reactive like so many times as we have seen this year. We try to defend too much because we allow them to gain first possession, the entire centre/ midfield need to be reworked, so the easy answer is to stop them from doing this. Bailey needs to be more proactive during the game, make our players be the ones that are the frontrunners, running into space, not the other way around( e.g: every game this season). I could go on, but these are the two most pressing issues that I can see. Thankyou, for reading this and I look forward to reading the following (rational) discussion. Cheers!
  20. Ball- he is under rated @ St.Kilda. Very happy if we got him in PSD, wouldnt trade a 1st round pick for him though as i think that rebuilding is more important. Remember that Ball was an All-Australian, club captain and was pick 2 in the '01 draft in front of Chris Judd, so he must have some kind of ability.
