Demons warned on draft tampering

Recommended Posts

Wasn't Luke Ball and Colllingwood 'tampering with the draft process'?

I'm sick of us getting shafted. RR made the point that we couldn't have matched the GW$ deal for Juda$ - doesn't help when the AFL didn't even let us into the ballpark. Carlton made a deal with Judd, but no, because it's Melbourne the loophole can be closed. Collingwood got away with draft tampering, but oh no, because it's Melbourne they can't do it.

Whose soup did we spit in to get white-anted like this?

The AFL have contempt for us, no doubt. But Bailey spilling the tanking beans as a parting shot at his presser didn't help.

Two random thoughts:

1. Who was the last top 10 pick under 180cms?

2. If Jack's bout of OP worsens late in the year and the medical opinion is he needs a break, what is stopping him not nominating for the draft until the following year?

Sorry, there's been some leftfield, fanciful suggestions in this thread - I just thought I'd add to it!

Its a given we will take JV with our first round pick, I trust the club, they are professionals, I am not.

Also would make me sick watching the son of a team of the century member running around potentially tearing us a new one.

So we go two ways

1. We suck as bad everyone makes appear we will and get JV (potentially) paying overs and pick 4 (in essence the 3rd best player in the draft); OR

2. We continue our improvement, finish 14th or above, get JV paying evens and pick 6 or later.

I kind of see the pros and cons of the outcomes canceling out. Let the media beat it up, footy can change pretty quick.

The way i see it (if we finish 3rd last), we will get Viney then a choice of either Toumpas or Stringer (at this stage), plus an early teens pick (good outside mid - maybe O'Rourke but who the hell knows), then we'd be able to nab a good small forward with a second rounder (possibly one of Kennedy or Garlett). Sure it's not as good as say Whitfield, Toumpas/Stringer, Outside mid and Viney, but it's still pretty bloody good!!!

I don't see one part in that article that says "The AFL" have warned MFC about draft tampering.

Is there more to that article or is this journo just putting it out there to twist the knife in MFC's back. Come on it's round 6!

I find it amusing that now the talk of free agency becomes is en vogue MFC automatically are linked with two players. is there no other player at any other club coming out of contract this year?

It's Jay Clark.

Standard fare for this parasite.

Might be a silly question, I'm not a draft/trade rules expert by any stretch, but couldn't we do the following and still be within the rules:

-Trade our top pick (likely 2 or 3) for a player (eg- some gun 19-23 year old looking to return to Melbourne from interstate)

-Use whatever pick it is we have to next for Viney (seems like about pick 12ish)

If we're allowed to do it, wouldn't it be a way for us to get a much needed gun mid who's already been in the system 2-3 seasons, plus get Viney as a bargain still?

Thoughts?

This is from REALLLLLLY left field and would make a mess of everyone's plans to shaft us!!! Play him at Casey for 12 months, have him nominate for the following draft when we might have pick 8 or 10 and cash in!

Drastic I know...however

Winning the spoon talk, what is this 2008/2009??? Get real people!!!

Sad isn't it...all thought of improvement are slowly leaving the supporter base..& that is after the draft has already burnt us not long ago.

I can only assume that either GWS or GC would meet with Viney before that made a nomination that could commit them to taking him with pick 1 or 2. Surely all that needs to happen then is that young Jack tells them he is keen to stay in Victoria and if they draft him he would seek a trade back to Vic and the end of the standard 2 year deal.

There is no way either club would risk that happening, Jack can slip to us in the second round and the AFL has no grounds (or proof at least) to accuse us of draft tampering, a quiet word from Todd to Jack at the dinner table would be hard for even the world police at the AFL to investigate.

Mate it happened.....1965...I can't get no....Satisfaction.... first came out. Very apt i always thought.

In an ameteur game we had the whip hand & got many of the best players around. Because they wanted to play at the 'G'. So they caame to us. It made us strong.

We traded well on that & I believe where the only club @ home on the 'G'. A good recruiting tool.

When the ballgame began to spread even, through the brown bag phylosophy, we had no ammunition or aggression to take them on. In fact I believe we stood firm, with Stiff Upper Lip, & said NO! We won't Pay you that much, & the History is our Epitaph.

Yes. Free Agency will finally stop that.

We either stand up or disappear.

Dee's too blood there young blokes and see where the list is at. Tynan, Cook, Couch, Davis, Lawrence, Nicholson, Taggert, Fitzpatrick etc should all be getting a bit of a go soon.

IN - Pick's 1, 2, 13, Jack Viney (20), Free Agent - Goddard, Trade for - Jon Griffin or Zac Clarke from Freo and possibly Dangerfield.

OUT - Moloney (FA), Jamar (FA), Bate and Morton

Interesting game this week! GWS v GC... We are wanting GWS to win I would think.

No-one is tampering with the draft.

The much maligned 'Veale Deal' that allowed WB to pick up Rawlings in the draft to keep a deal between NM and Hawthorn occuring is in a similar vein to the trade I am envisioning.

If the AFL want to tell us we cannot convince clubs to overlook Viney for reward then we just do it surreptitiously with GWS and GC - let the AFL prove it and hold all the clubs accountable...

Until Demetriou comes out and explains the lengths to which they will go to stop us - we do it.

...and then GWS bid for Viney anyway and when we try and cry foul GWS says 'we never made any deal'.

Wow wouldn't that be something if that eventuated? Would prefer dangerfield to Goddard though if we had to choose. Think it's all a bit of wishfull thinking but pretty sure any one would take that in a heart beat

Getting a wooden spoon behind two start up clubs is wishful thinking?

The 'handshake deal' can only be formalised after the F/S biiding process. If anyone gets effed around it will be them if we pull a fast one.

Besides - if they want Pick 3, then they shouldn't make us use it for Viney. And we wouldn't cry foul - we would have tried the only thing to get Viney into the second round and we would have failed. Move on.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
