Sam Blease

Sam will develop if he can string some games together, he has good pace and skills. He needs to keep his feet though, goes to ground too much. I've always found it's hard to run on your hands and knees.

Some encouraging signs, although he didn't go low or hard enough twice (I've only seen the second half). He definitely shows enough to suggest he can become a regular.

I saw twice where he could of gone lower and harder also but at his experience level with his history i can forgive it, hopefully he can iron that and a few other things out of his game and become a solid player.

His best game for us by far. Sigh, it doesn't help our fortunes when players like Blease and Strauss should have roughly 60 games of experience behind them and Gysberts and Tapscott with 40. Hopefully he can cement his spot on the side for the rest of the year. Has the pace and kicking skills we so desperately need, just needs to keep up with his defensive work. Another full pre-season should see him become a real weapon in 2013.

I guess this is the Sam Blease thread, and you are entitled to make comments like this.

Anyway, I thought it was close to Sammy's best game for the Club in a short career to date. Was one of not many that saw ball, went and got ball (most times, albeit the couple of occasions mentioned in BH's post), and actually provided run and took the game on.

At this stage in his development, and the where the team is at, I want to see this from our young guys, and I thank Bleasey for providing me with that on the weekend. If you are running with the ball, and trying to create opportunities, there is every chance you will get caught at times, and give away free kicks. Don't let this side of your game fade - it gives me hope that some of our young players, with the right development, will be good enough sooner rather than later.

I just hope Sammy doesn't rest now thinking he has made it. No player has made it until the end of their career when they have mulitple premierships on their resume.

He's a beautiful kick, lightening fast and a decent decision maker. What we've been crying out for at the back. He also won a number of clearances, particularly in the final quarter. Seems to have a good engine. Keep playing him down back to work on his defensive game and then I'd be throwing him in the middle. He could be the perfect outside mid we've been looking for. Can't wait for Gysbert's return either. Add Strauss in there and Tapscott. We need to get games into these kids. It's not about blindly giving them games, but taking positives from their games and noting their areas that require improvement. Neeld has to engrain a discipline in these kids from very early on. It's not too late.

Definitely the template for a wingman. Fast, light, at times has excellent disposal. If he turns out to be half the player Bluey Adams was, we'll definitely have a gem. Just allow him to string some games together.

I liked his spoil, when he chased a few and surprised them with his pace, and how he backed himself to kick goals (got one, missed two but had a crack). I can see why he was picked now and I think he is on par with Scully at the moment.

Not quite yet, NSC. Bleasey (from all reports) had an ordinary preseason, based on those dedicated Demonland posters who headed down to training at the start of the year.

He needs to lift his aerobic capacity - his acceleration is amazing.

Coupled with the developing grunt of Gys and the potential of Viney........(smile breaks out across his face)

Sam played his best game for the club against the bluesers. The most positive thing is that he KNOWS he's quicker than everyone, and his first instinct once getting the ball is to take off. That's a great attribute to have.

Little concerned because, as has been well documented, sam struggled over pre-season. Let's hope he can continue this form.

Don't worry too much about his pre-season effort. He can probably see the impact he can make in games compared to those who are fitter than him,so imgaine his eyes light up when he thinks he could make their fittness with his natural ability

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
