Dunn is far too one-dimensional. The only thing he can do is that defensive forward role - in terms of actually providing threat, he just doesn't do it.

Plus he looks like a goddamn porn star.

For the record, Davey had Murphy for the first half. Dunn was switched to him at half time and worked his ass off to stay on him when the doggies sent men over to try to man him up and give Murphy a cutout. He also took on pretty much the entire Bulldog backline when they started trying to bully Watts and Davey. I'm very curious to know why there wasn't a report when one of them nailed him in the third. Umpire turned around to see him on the ground clutching his stomach and didn't even make a note to check the tapes.

????

Were we watching the same game? He might have kept Murphy quiet, but he was recruited ages ago, with Newton and Bate as one of our up and coming big players... All of them have been disappointments. Tagging an ageing has-been, and we're to think that's a win for us? I think people are justified in their frustratio with him. Draft a player that high and keep him that long you expect him to nullify a player AND get 20ish damaging touches + goals...

No disrepect to the original poster. But I do remember sitting there at one point with Bate in the midfield playing as well as he has in years and STILL being slow, with Dunn playing a negative role, and I just thought, this isn't good...

i tend to agree, what is acceptable effort for Melbourne supporters wouldnt be at other more successful sides. Lets not forget what picks these guys were taken at.

Disagree with OP. Went absolutely ape poo in the last 1/4 with at least a couple of efforts where he needed to come hard at the ball but either stayed down or tried to duck out the back.

Almost as timid as Watt's in a pack situation deep forward.

Dunn is the perfect definition of a list clogger.

List cloggers aren't duds. They don't hang around cause they can't play.

They provide bits and pieces to fool people but ultimately they aren't up to it. They are sneaky like that.

Dunn was obviously given a specific job to do by the Coach...at half time (maybe)

and he carried it out, & was praised.

Cool...Lynden is "in"

Give him some credit.

RMax if Davey; our highest paid player (and Watts to an extent) and one of our elder statesmen needs help from Dunn (the ultimate soft on) from being "bullied" by the backline of Easton Wood, Bob Murphy, Mark Austin and Roughead then we are worse off than I thought. Nailed Dunn.... give it a spell Dunn has a habit of getting in someones grill, when they retaliate he drops like a stone even if he is hardly touched.

I continue to be surprised at the no. of times that Jack W pops up in an unrelated OP and that so many comments are negative. From what I've seen, his contested marking continues to get better as his body shape changes and, frankly the last thing we need is yet another 'flyer' when what we desperately need is a smart crumber with pace & the ability to hit a target by hand or foot. I know I've said it before but, in my opinion, he is our smartest and most skillful player and one that we cannot afford to lose. My guess is that he is doing the job that he is being asked to do by the coaches.

And I'll add to it Murphy 24 stats, Dunn and Davey combined had 13 with 2 goals (both Davey)......

And I'll add Murphy had only 6 in the second half

Yup but it is a 4 qtr game BD. I just think it is amazing that we are discussing how well Dunn played collecting 4 touches ALL game. Anyway each to their own I guess.

Got to love some of the excuses for poor performances here on Demonland. Let's get one thing straight - 4 possessions in an entire game is a horrible result, no matter what job the coach gives the player...... Unbelievable!!!

Can someone with a better memory than me recall whether Dunn's selection in whatever year he was drafted was considered at the time to be a surprise, a stroke of genius or par for the course? I wonder what was the thinking at the time. That he'd be a key position player? A forward? Defender?

For some strange reason I can recall that Bate was considered to have "slipped" through to us (but I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong). But I have no memory of what the consensus view of Dunn was.

And I know it's all academic now. I'm just curious.

PS. I wouldn't pick Dunn this week or perhaps ever again given the number of chances he's had and his inability to deliver.

My memory tells me that he was drafted as a KPF to be groomed to take over from Neitz. When that didn't work I think Newton was then thought of as the Neitz successor. But my memory might not be correct!

FYI - Milne had 9 possessions from the FP last week from 56 i50s.

And he didn't have a negating role.

AND he's far more annoying than Dunn.

But I bet noone thinks he should've been dropped for bad form this week.

Yeah, and we really had him in the team to play a negating role! Even if he held Murphy all their other defenders seemed to have plenty of room. Plus, a couple of goals from him would've been nice in the last quarter after Clark went off. He dribbled the ball into the post from point blank range at a crucial stage.

Dunn had a good 2010 but if he's not gonna reach that form again he'll forever just be an average player who doesn't deserve to be in the side.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
