GAME DAY - Round 2

Recommended Posts

@Akum - No I think they just need to work harder. Even if we can't get a mark/pinpoint pass I50 they need to create a contest and lock the ball in. It rebounds out far too easily which is NOT our gameplan considering Neeld is trying to supposedly implement the forward press.

Would be nice if the umps could pick out a free for us as well - sure we have kicked OOF 3 times and laid 3-4 high tackles but our players have been held on to around the stoppages as well and we get nothing.

Frees are 10-1 to the Eagles. Shouldn't expect any better over there.

In fairness, our tackling looks pretty poor, though the Weagles have been to the Selwood school of ducking in a tackle..

I thought Kennedy would destroy Rivers, but that has not happened.

Out of Bounds count: 3

Head High tackle count: 4

Totally unnecessary and detrimental to our performance. Frustrating as all hell, too.

Best that quarter: Rivers, Jones, McDonald, Bennell.

Worst: Green, Clark, Macdonald, Frawley (just for his brainfades).

Not a great 1st quarter, but can't be too different to reasonable expectations I guess,

Some positives were Tommy Mac and Rivers in defense and Magner's clearance work. Is it a concern he seems out No.1 contested ball winner in just his 2nd game?

The Green tackle and Frawley running too far are the coach killers that we have to eliminate from our game.

We have directly given the Eagles 2 of their 4 goals.

When we go fwd we have to be more patient and try and construct a goal.

Still better signs than last week.

INEPT- revealing lack of perceptiveness or judgment-generally incompetent and ineffectual

good effort, poor execution from the senior players..

feel sorry for mitch clark, sitting it on his head with 3 defenders every chance we get.

we have had more disposals, both cont and uncon,

tackles 19-6 their way, frees 12-1, 2 big stats where we are getting smashed

i50's and clearances are pretty even which is a good sign, just got to use it better

Is it the gameplan, or just the endemic laziness of MFC players who don't have t he ball or don't see a personal possession in a potential contest? It has gone on for years -- just wont present forward of the ball carrier.

I had hoped the extra fitness from the Missen programme may have made a difference -- are there any exercise physiologists out there who could tell us how long it takes to build up real endurance?

7 from head-high tackles or OOB. It's not the umpires' fault we don't know how to kick or tackle.

Interesting that TV just said that we had oly 6 tackles so 7/6 head high is pretty clever!

Rivers doing well. Dunn always has a crack whether you like him or not, i think he is dependable. Magner looks a goodie. Watts, Clark and MacDonald disappointing so far. Our midfield just doesnt compare.

The only part of our team that is up to par is our defense.

I always like Bennell. He hasnt been given a good chance yet.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
