Kicking in from behinds

I don't know exactly why this annoys me more than anything, but it does.

Why, after all these years, do we still not have any idea how to bring the ball back in when kicking out from a behind?

We continually kick to the 50 metre line on the boundary, where we'll have Jamar/Martin/Clark waiting for an up-and-under kick, with plenty of opponents around him ready to knock it out.

I just feel like this is symptomatic of our club.

And why don't we know how to stop the opposition from bringing it in so easily?

We haven't had an effective kick in strategy for the last 5 years.

Why can every other club actually find a target and control their exit out of 50?

Posted

Because

1/ We are lazy and dont work hard enough to present options

2/ When we do present options we do not respect the option and pull the trigger

3./ The long bomb to the ruckman should be used when all the hard working options ( which there arent any) are covered

We all know Bartram shouldn't take a kick in but when he did with a gimme it still came unstuck. A notice needs to be plastered on his head "Not to take kick ins, ever"

i think you accidentally pressed the "i" and the "n" button

Lions didn't seem to have nearly the same amount of difficulty we had. Was a little annoying seeing the first contest occur on their half forward line on so many occasions

It is "a part of the Melbourne culture"........hasn't changed over the last 4 or more coaches so possibly never will.

Disappointing but true.

Sitting behind the goals yesterday was making me drink more and more beer. Jamar would throw his hand up for the footy with the Monster Luenberger right beside him and other brisbane players all waiting for the kick to Jamar. If Chippa looked to the other side of the ground he would have seen Watts and others one out and completely away from Luenberger who killed us. Use Jamar for some kick ins and then use him as a bloody decoy as well. Everyone bangs on in here about Watts getting contested marks well perhaps someone SHOULD KICK IT TO HIM!

We should just get Wheatley again and get him to long bomb it straight out into a pack. Even then we will have more success that what we are having right now.

I know why-because it's an easy way to get good metres and goals but we never exploit it .

Give it to Blease occasionally. Let him do the Heath Shaw style kick to himself and take off.

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
