Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The media is having a field day criticizing one of our players because he was a number 1 draft pick and he's not starring in matches even though he's only 20 years of age.

Well, at least his team won on the weekend and though his form wasn't great, he at least contributed to his team's effort.

However, there's another number 1 draft pick out there who's running around not doing much for his team even though he's the most highly paid footballer in the country who's poor performances are getting zero attention whatsoever.

Why?

i feel for wattsy, must be difficult to deal with all the expectations and criticism.I for one hope he comes out this year and absolutely deeestroys it as im sure all of us on here do.

Im hoping Watts doesn't gun until the start of his next 5 year contract. As negative as it sounds if he guns next year as he is just about to come out of contract it could be costly.

If he doesn't GUN this year there will not be a 5 year contract. He will be lucky to to get more than the standard 2 year deal.

I maybe a little out here but is this the order of No.1

2006 Gibbs Excellent from early days

2007 Kruezer very good from early days

2008 watts poor start average so far

2009 Scully average so far

2010 Swallow looks good but early days

So in recent years Watts looks to be behind the last 5 first round picks.

That is why he is getting so much press attention

Of course the gods are about 2 months away from decending on Scully.

By June the press could be saying the MFc wasted 2 No.1 picks.

I really hope not.

IMO, he was played that way under instructions.

I think we'll see watt he can do, when he's given different instructions.

Lets not panic. Watts can use the 'backfeed' to amp-up his current output... ^_^

After watching our nabcup games so far I didn't think he was doing too bad. There was a few times where he was in perfect position to take grabs but Mitch came over the top with defender in toe. The whole forward line needs to work better together they're just a little out of sinc still. When that comes together and all 4 forwards stop going up for the same ball every time and protect space for eachother (which Watts has done on a few occasions) watch out backlines! He is a good player and everyone will see it soon enough.

Mark Neeld made the point on Triple M that Watts had not come through the more traditional route of TAC Cup and therefore the adjustment to senior footy was always going to be harder and take longer for him. We saw more than a few glimpses last year of what Jack is capable of.

In Neeld we trust and I believe Watts can thrive under his stewardship. Also, to be canned by sections of the media before he's hardly kicked a ball in anger this season is a bit desperate.

Hmmn, Key forward. Hardest position ion the ground to play, especially for a stringbean.

Kreuzer was just ok, competative.

Gibbs, still waiting.

Murphy took time.

NikNat, still waiting for him to breakout, > 2012...

Pepe le Pu, huh.

Swallow???

IMO dee-luded you are seeing what you want to see

- we are discussing No.1 picks

- Gibbs is a very good player ( I hope watts get that good)

- Kruezer is better than you suggest

- Swallow has showed more in his first year than Watts did in his first two years.

the above is the opinion of the football community not just my opinion

The rest were not No.1 picks so not part of the discussion

I agree that the pressure and media attention on watts is outrageous. In the early days I was watts biggest critic and I was the one on here that made 'that statement' that he would not play 100 games of afl footy.

I made that comment early in season 2011 and after that i believe that he was very very good last year and played 5-6 outstanding games (Richmond freo and essendon come to mind)

Watts has taken a little time but we have seen the signs that he will be a very good player and I believe he will perform his role for the team in 2012 and be part of future successes!

But the question is will he justify his No.1 pick by 2014?

My answer is no old dee. By 2014 I can see Watts playing consistent footy and by 2016 I can see him being one of the best in the league. I get very frustrated that we don't see Jack bursting through a pack, taking massive marks and kicking goals and then I remember he is 20 years old,

I don't think he is comparing No1 picks, (even though he said that), but laterally, the 'theme' is, why is Watts being singled out... So mine is about the Much touted dratftees, who have some years experience Now.

Gibbs Mid

Kruezer Tall KKP/ruckman

Scully Mid

Swallow Mid

The only other footballer you can compare him to is Kruezer and Yes he is behind him considering Kruezer lost a year with a knee recontrustion othe comparisons are meaningless as smaller blokes mature earlier

He must be really worried that he is not pleasing you Old Dee.......and if the Press say it, it must be right sigh......forming one's own opinion is everybody's right......personally I think he is going ok, no probs at all

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
