Rohan Bail

Has done it tougher than most with family issues and injury. He has played a few nice games and I have a feeling there is a lot of improvement left in him. If you were judging our list solely on our first three games of the season they would be about 6 left of AFL standard.

We need players of his type to come on. Lets let him get a bit of rhythm into his game and see what he can do. I see him as a bloke that will step up as his role increases.

His only glaring weakness is lack of penetration on his kicking, and there are plenty of very good players that you can say that about.

Looking forward to seeing him go from strength to strength.

His 48m pass to Petterd in the last seconds of the Collingwood game 2 years back didn't appear to lack penetration.

I hope Rohan can maintain his position in the team for the next few weeks. He had an improved showing on Saturday night (not on his own there), but to be averaging 12 possessions YTD is far from acceptable from one of our (potential) midfielders (he's not on his own there either). As I have previously posted, the sooner Blease, Strauss, Gysberts, et al start snapping at his heels, he would want to drastically improve his output otherwise a lengthy stint at Casey is on the cards.

I am totally blown away by the amount of positive talk regading RB this year. I'm not trying to kick the bloke in the guts, but am I the only one who beleives his form to date has been poor?

I love his attitude, and his running ability, and he's not a bad looking bloke, but what are we judging here, a popularity contest or what we see on the footy field?

I was surprised he hasn't been subbed out of a few games to be honest. I rate him as a player and believe he'll be a solid best 22 player for us in years to come, but a few of his games so far have been pretty poor. A number of times he hangs onto the ball for too long and gets caught rather than taking the 1st option. My other main gripe has been him giving away unnecessary free kicks, particularly through poor tackling attempts. Kid can play though and I’m not calling for him to be dropped at this stage.

The thing that amazed me most from that article is that coming in to this season he'd only played 18 senior games. Feels like he's been around more than that and in my mind I'd always treated him like a 50 gamer, but really in terms of his footy career he's still just an apprentice.

Yep, I agree. Just seems to be very disciplined (for mine, anyway). Wouldn't be surprised if he's found a niche as a defensive small forward.......

As a pass it did not.

As a shot at goal, it did.

He wasn't having a shot at goal, and it was in the last sconds of the match (ie tired legs).

From memory it was off his left boot too?

He might be a 'potential midfielder', but he's not playing there yet. So 12 possessions in a forward line that doesn't get the ball delivered to them as often as we'd like is not a bad effort.

FFS La Dee. He kicked 2 goals agaisnt the Saints, prior to that he had kicked 1 goal in 4 games and he has had 2 Goal Assists for the season. He has given away 10 free kicks, but only got 3 in return.

What part of Rohan Bail's game this season has been satisfactory, especially from a stats point of view? Normally I'm not too fussed what sort of picture stats paint, but this lot of figures confirmed that my observations of his game this year has been terrible.

I really do hope he improves and he plays some very good footy in the coming games, otherwise blokes like Blease and Petterd will be pushing him out (hopefully they find form good enough to warrant that).

I appreciate, and have acknowledged that he is not on his own, but this is the Ro Bail thread.

The negative comments towards Bail in this thread are unwarranted, unfounded, and pretty much just stupid.

That is all I have to say about this.

Why? What is unwarranted, unfounded and stupid? I have provided stats for season 2012, what have you provided? Jack shite.

7 possessions today Titan. Add that to his average of 12 for the season. 21 Dream Team points, which before today was averaging 50.

Casey calling.

You're dropping him based on one game. Last week he was great. I've felt he's had an impact in every game he's played this year except this week. He's been chasing, tackling, running, manning up, linking up in important plays, and giving an effort where others weren't.

He had a bad one today, I'm not denying that. But that does not mean he should make way straight away. Others should go first (Dunn, Bate, Sellar, Sylvia).

Definitely bombed today after an excellent game last week. I don't know what 'normal' is for him at the moment.

I think he's trying to find that out too.

He's a very good complementary player, Bail.

I think his performance improves with the team, but he really depends on other players getting their roles right.

When they do, he can get into position to link play very well.

When it breaks down he has difficulty imposing himself on the contest.

What I don't get is that he's spending so much of games playing deep forward and no where near the ball when he has the attributes to move into the middle or half back.

Yes kicking is a bit shonky, but he's a step above Bartram. The other area I'd like to see him work on is giving away soft free kicks. He's an aggressive tackler but that doesn't mean tackling high or in the back.

The simple thing might be that he just doesn't have to the tricks to play as a forward in this forward line. Which is fair enough because not many do.

I'd drop him this week to give Petterd/Couch/Bennell a turn at either half forward/mid or back, but I'd hope for a quick bounce back in VFL form so Tapscott and Sylvia are on edge. No doubt Bail is a better game runner than those 2.

I've noticed quite a few times that his tackling awareness has been a bit out. He often tackles someone when the ball is long gone and gives away a free.

Love your work Jose.

Keep posting in this fashion, most of your footy obs are first class, don't get sucked down by some other posters.

With Bail and a few others it will also depend on what defensive roles they have been set, even so I think Bail needs to go both ways and he has the tank to do it.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season.
