GWS theme song

Featured Replies

Written by a Melbourne supprter! One of the Cat empire guys. I actually don't mind it, however doubt we'll hear what it sounds like 'live' from the playing group for awhile....

I dislike pretty much everything about GWS but I actually think it isn't the worst club song

But as others in the media have mentioned it could be a while till we hear it sung by the players

It's already in the upper half dozen of songs. Unlike new teams that have new snazzy songs this one will probably stand the test of time.

Its not too bad actually...sorta sounds like a Footy club song..unlike some others

too bad theyll never get to sing it !!! :) :) :) :)

Not as camp as Gold Coasts and not as dry as Freo's.

Moscow Moscow dee de de dee

I can understand the thread about Scully but WTF are we doing discussing the GWS club song in a forum dedicated the greatest footy club in the world?

Yeah it's a bit "Eastern Bloc" . Fairly brassy but no banjo ?

I heard the bloke this morning from "The Cat Empire" say they tried to it with some banjo but later cut it out .

This saddens me

Cheers

Banjo would have been great....idiots.

I'm with you there ... it would have been a nice touch going with that tune done by duelling banjoes and having the cast of Deliverance stomping their feet in time with the musicians. Very emblematic of the western suburbs of Sydney and some of the players Sheedy and co have managed to get together at Breakfast Point.

Can I buy the CD anywhere?

I love it!!! Best theme song going around.

Fantastic job by Harry from cat empire.

The last 4 songs from suns, port, freo and west coast have been horrible.

Hey , that looks a bit like ..................no it can't be !

First thing I've liked about their club. Hopefully the scum's career is over and he never has to sing it.

I like it. It's damn hard to fit the mouthful of a name Greater Western Sydney Giants into any kind of a melody, but they did okay.

Yeah , putting all bias aside , it's quite good hey . I've had a few listens and the use of the brass is quite impressive .

Fairly sure we won't hear it much though , unless this thread gets revisited !

If "Smacka" Fitzgibbon was still kickin' we might have had a bit of banjo . Oh well .

Cheers

Well they've avoided electric guitars, cheesy drum beats and the wimpy singers and as such, it's instantly better than the other expansion club songs.

Got me thinking obout our footy songs Wyl . There's no other sport in the world that does it quite like our sport . Stand corrected of course .

It's something we should be quite proud of in an odd sort of way .

It's sorta like like 'Oktoberfest' , except our fascination with it is not "Beer" orientated !

Cheers ( literally )

i like how liverpool does it with there song never walk alone when they have a full house and everyone is singing it, spine tingling stuff if you have not seen it there is plenty of stuff on youtube

Of course , your right about the EPL , I'm a Hammers fan ( championship but soon to be Premier league ) and our tune is "I'm forever blowing bubbles" .

Re our club songs , I more so meant it in the sense that immediately after our games finish we all launch into song . ( if we win )

I love this part of our game . And isn't it fantastic when we sing our song after playing against the mortal enemy . Bliss !

Cheers

Not bad actually .

Very Russian sounding , like a propaganda song for factory workers .

Could be the first and last time we hear it for a year or two .

I really like it. It would have been really hard to create a song that sounded good now and fit in with the classic football songs.

I think they have done an amazing job. Such a shame its for such a [censored] team.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
