Best of the best- it is impossible for 40 players to have this status- I'd say you chose the elite from a selection of the best players- and you'll be looking at a total of around 10 out of a selection of 80-100 players.

I think even at 10 we're pushing it.

I think Pendlebury is a fantastic player and would love to have him but the only reason he would leave Collingwood is for the cash on offer at GWS (or a major fallout with Buckley) which we can never offer. I hope it does to them what the Scully thing did for us. Maybe Eddie can break the news on his brekky program, lol.

Let's develop our own and maybe top up with a GC or GWS kid who wants to come home.

We have no-one that is elite. Maybe Jamar.

PA have no-one. GC have one. GWS have none.

You can't judge it like that.

Collingwood have Pendlebury, Swan, Cloke, and I am missing a couple here. Geelong: Bartel, Selwood, Johnson, and a couple others that may not be in their league but are above our league (Corey, Enright). StK: Riewoldt, Goddard, Dal Santo, Montagna all better than our best, all probably elite. Hawks: Mitchell, Hodge, Franklin, Sewell.

So, yeah, around the 30 players mark, but no Melbourne player in sight I would think, nor PA, GWS, WB, Tiges, NM, and BL.

You have to grade every single player in the league and that would lead to a bell curve. If we use supercoach prices as a rough indicator I am sure there will be a few at the top a few rookies at the bottom and a whole glut of player in the average range.

Watts, Gysberts & Jurrah have the potential to be our best 3 in 3 years time. Jurrah will be unbelievable after 3 more pre seasons. Tapscott is my smokie.

I'd be curious what the mean absolute deviation (MAD) and tracking signal smoothed error (TSSE) would be for MFC during the 4-year rebuild and how it relates to historical rebuild statistics allowing for the usual external factors

Ok, so at least you know what I am talking about...

Some on here think you can grade all players by saying the best 40 are A, the second 40 B+, the third 40 B, etc. but that makes little sense as a rudimentary, if subjective, analysis tells us that there are more 'B' players in the AFL than A players.

I would love for someone to run a ranking graph based on Supercoach prices (for lack of an easier measure). I will have a look around the site later and see what can be done but I assume a few really expensive players, a few rookies and a great deal of average players.

Like Watts, TJ , and Silvia, Liam has shown that when he's ON he is elite. However, the swings to date from best to worst is too wide and therefore he's not ON consistently enough to be elite, yet.

I'd say Jack Watts is similarly not ON enough. Pleople are disposed to believe that Jack Watts will develop the consistency, the engine and drive to be ON more often, and if he does develop these things then with his obvious talent he should be elite.

Liam didn't come throught the classical development and draft system yet in his career to date has displayed he has the talent to be elite. The doubt you are voicing is that he won't develop the consistency, the engine and drive to display his evident talent consistently.

I disagree. Liam has had to give up more (his culture and family) and work harder (i.e. learn english) to get to where he is than most of the MFC list, and this to me indicates a resolve that will allow his talent to flourish.

Liam will be a star in the sublime mold of the great Robbie Flower.

No, Flower was a superstar. I consider elite players to include Lyon and Stynes. I really don't know why elite now equals superstar status. For me elite is really A grade, or perhaps A+. Each to their own I suppose.
