Watched the interview. Never smiled.

No idea what going on with Brent.

Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves.

Brent?

No, Brett Maloney ;-)

Excellent...His new role on the half forward flank could be the go...can receive the ball and head straight for goal or set up a better option..ala Chapman.

Could cause a bit of extra havoc up there with his mate Col Sylvia.

Big bodied HFF - I agree, create some havoc, Beamer!

I think it's actually his disposition... I can't recall seeing him smile often at all. I think he will stay unless he is pushed.

"But you hear about it and it’s a little bit frustrating, because the people who are saying it aren’t actually inside the footy club and they don’t know what happens behind these walls."

I think a lot of us here are guilty of that. Brent's form has been ordinary, so many come to the assumption that he is disgruntled and wanting out.

Despite this years form, Brent has been a passionate, 'spiritual leader' for years now. That plus our lack of senior, experienced, leaders make him such an important part of our team.

You should have just put the first and second line......

Yeah just like $cully.

Prove it on the grass Beamer and you will stay.

Actually, I get the feeling that on Saturday night he actually reached the light at the end of the tunnel and will hopefully start to give consistently solid performances from now on.

Hope so, but i am still doubtful till it becomes consistent.

But he did play well last saturday. Cred for that.

Brent?

Ya ya, ok ok!....late one last night!!

As much as he says he moved on quickly from being removed from the leadership group I doubt that would be the case.

Between that, a new coach with a new game plan that severely modifies his on field behaviours it has no doubt been a confronting period of change for Beamer. Couple that with a poorly timed form lapse (cause and effect can be argued) it is undertandable that he has laboured through the first half of the season.

That said things can turn around quickly in this game and Saturday night was a step in the right direction. You have to applaud Brent for coming out and saying he wants to remain a Demon immediately after playing his best game for the year. It would have been a good opportunity to advertise himself to other suitors but he has chosen not too.

He will also probably get a phone call from his manager about sweeping statements of intent and Beamer should say "it's ironic that you say that..." after his agent thrust himself into the papers a few weeks ago about testing, teasing, and abusing the waters of Free Agency...

As a supporter I want him to stay and see some success at the Dees.

Its been a tough year for him but I hope the tide has turned.

"I want to stay a ______ for life" is not the same as "I have signed".

Beamer's best chance of remaining a Demon is the likelihood no other club will go big and offer him a lot more than what Melbourne will offer.

I'll put my hand up to say I've potted him on here, but purely through frustration at him not performing anywhere near the level we have come to expect from Beamer. The reasons behind it can be speculated upon but he is someone we desperately need to be producing every week.

Anyone with his ability and love for the club should remain here for the rest of his career and I hope the weekend was a turning point for him form-wise, and that he does just that.

My concern about Moloney was that he seemed to just have one string to his bow, and with the younger mids coming through to take his place in the midfield, his days as a Dee might be numbered, as there was nowhere else for him to play.

Saturday night totally changed all that. He will be very hard to match up against on HFF because of his strength, and will give every other team's small defenders plenty to think about. He could also be really damaging as an attacking HBF.

Great credit to Neeld for asking Beamer & Col to play more disciplined roles, rather than allowing them to freewheel. The Garland move got all the attention, but the Moloney move could well pay more dividends in the long term. And great credit to them for grabbing the challenge put to them with both hands and really putting in the effort. Could be a great move for both of them.

Lets no over analysis this,

Moloney will stay or go based on the offers that are around.

I may be over generous to him but I think he would like to stay at the MFC

Provided there is not a lot large offer from somone else in Victoria.

His performances between now and the end of the year will settle the matter.

I hope he stays. But don't read too much into quotes which may well have been written for him by Matt Burgan. It's a puff piece, after all.

Perhaps you should have clicked the link, then watched the video. Matt just did a transcript of the interview which you can watch on the club site.

Matt probably staged that whole interview as well :)

Tom Scully "I want to be a one club player"

So TS has now become the measuring stick for every other player's honesty? Good lord!

Ambivalent really.

I think we'd be better off if he goes, but if he stays, he stays.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
