This may be disappointing to some, after it has been advertised as no commercials siren to siren for about 6 months.

Agree with DC.

What you would be watching/listening to would be Cometti waxing lyrical with the make-up girl...

This isn't the VFL - we will not be allowed to listen to the qtr time address or anything like that.

It's actually quite brillant on behalf of Channel 7 as they would be worried about lessening the value for money their advertisers receive with Foxtel screening the games that Channel 7 have on delay.

This way, those ads will be seen whether or not you are watching Channel 7.

I always took it as no commercials during regular play time ie siren to siren each qtr

I can't understand why anyone would be worried about between qtr ads

I actually quite like ads myself, well some of them. maybe they were advertising it as during game time. rather than first siren to last.

I have a question about the foxtel mobile iPhone app, will the fox footy channel be available on this application and if so what package will it be under?

If not, bugger!

Foxtel programme guide now shows the programming for the opening night:

5.00 pm Live: Opening Night

6.30 pm Live: NAB Cup Richmond v North Melbourne

7.50 pm Live: NAB Cup North Melbourne v Hawthorn

8: 55 pm Live: NAB Cup Hawthorn v Richmond

These games will then be replayed on rotation in the following hours.

The first AFL replay will be at 4.30 am - the game between Western Bulldogs and Melbourne in 2010 when we wore pink and Tom Scully got 19 disposals in the last quarter.

The channel will be listed in program listings - under Sports, as well as under HD. However the channel itself won't be streaming I believe.

Telstra have just put out their mobile and tablet plans. You can get a season pass for just $50. if your a telstra customer it's unmetered.

If the picture looks good on the iPad I can live with that for the games not on free to air when I am not at the pub or a mates place.

You can also get an ap which give live stats and radio, replays on demand and access to afl.tv (not sure whats on that I assume the video content on the afl site).

$50 for the year is good value. Not often you say that about a Telstra product.

From what I've seen initial uncharged data ranges from 200mb to 2Gb (unless you're on a business plan). Internode, as an example, then charge $20 for 500 megabyte top-ups. An SD game broadcast can use 500mb. Theoretically if you weren't with Telstra, had the 2Gb cap, and only watched MFC games (and no other surfing in that month) you might not incur a cost. If you were with the 200mb mob, well then you'd get half a game and then either be prompted for a top-up or face a max charge per mb case when you get your bill. Buyer beware.

You have just confused me :/

I was talking about afl live on your mobile. Which I assume is resized and not shown in standard definition. Not sure how much download a game will take for an iPad but if your with Telstra it wont matter because it's unmetered.

If you are with Telstra it will be fully unmetered, however if you are with another mob, say vodafone, you must be careful that the amount that you are downloading from the game won't take you over your cap. In this sense while the $50 is pretty good value from telstra, the actual you incur from it may be larger.

Personally I am with Telstra, so I reckon I'll definitely be looking into this product.

Question- Will I be able to connect my iPad to my tv and watch the live stream like that? I would rather pay $50 a year than paying monthly for foxtel.

Apple provide cables so you can watch your iPhone/iPad/iPod on TV, I am not sure if you will be able to do this with the footy and the quality might not be great but it is worth looking into.

My understanding regarding the iPad, is that like the mobile phone, it needs to be a 3G iPad with a Telstra a monthly paid data sim.

What you might be able to do if you have a wifi only iPad, is tether from your Telstra 3G mobile phone...but I haven't done any test on that, so can't say for sure.

I have a 3G/WiFi iPad with a pre-paid Telstra account.

More information about this service is available here:

http://www.telstra.com.au/latest_offers/afllive/?ti=TR:TR:Jan12:afl:corporatehome:banner

You can access one game for $5, a monthly pass for $10 (first month free) or the season pass for $50 and it is unmetered.

I don't think you will be able to access the service from another carrier ie Optus. I have tried with my mobile which is Optus and it won't let me, but with my iPad which is Telstra I can. Not sure if there is a way around it.

I wonder if the resolution will be perfect for iPad or will it be iPhone size and a bit pixelated on iPad.

I also wonder if u will be able to use your wifi for better and reliable download speed or you have to stream through 3G.

Rhett, if you're still watching this thread the following sentence this page (http://www.foxtel.com.au/xbox/packages/default.htm?presel=pbtm) is a shocker:

"Don’t add AFL now. For free^ AFL trail just add Sport. If you like it add AFL post 17 March."

As a professional writer, I've taken the liberty of reworking it for you into something that makes sense! My invoice is in the mail :)

"AFL coverage is free on the Sport Pack until the 17th of March. To continue to watch live AFL games after this date, you'll need to add one of the following options:"

I just paid for the season pass, so will let you know after I watch a match this weekend. I do think it only works on 3G though, as I went to watch a press conference from last year before (that was on the site) and it wouldn't stream it when I was on WiFi, but worked immediately when I turned of WiFi. It is unmetered though, and the streaming speed was really good. Will have a better idea this weekend though!

I watched the match highlights from Melbourne vs. GC from last year that was on the site still, and it was a pretty ordinary picture. I am hoping that the new games for this year will be better quality, considering they are asking us to pay for it.

Edit: just watched the current game on afl.tv (Geel vs. Syd) and it is watchable, but I am hoping the quality is improved once the 2012 season starts. Still good value for $50.

I'm unconvinced that "AFL" channel in the "Get Started Package" is the new Foxtel AFL channel with live games

Let me know what you find out.

See this link for T-box and Foxtel:

http://telstra.com.a...-tbox/packages/

Looks like $19.50 + $10 and it's not clear whether the Sport package gives you the Foxtel AFL channel with live games either

Its actually !9.50 +$10 sports package +$20 Afl Footy

Just to clarify for everyone.

FOX FOOTY channel launches today at 5pm EST on Channel 504

Then the first NAB Cup match is from 6.30pm LIVE.

Just finished watching first half.

After FOXTEL saying they have so many cameras following the play.

and wont miss anything.

They then miss the most basic behind the play incident.

Dermie then has to explain what he thinks he saw. (totally amateurish)

One thing I have learned from the first half. Tigers are crap and kangas are worse.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
