There is an automatic elevation to start 2012, that is aside from Long Term Injuries.

Who gets elevated?

If Gawn is seriously injured I will alter the thread and add a poll minus the player (if there is a majority chosen) in the first poll.

From what I have seen the battle is between Nicholson, Couch, Magner, and Evans with Lawrence being in the position of being the type of player we highly demand (small forward).

Edit: Mitchell? It's Williams. Sorry my bad.

2nd question added.

The Magna guy impresses me with his tackling ferocity (DeeTV Vid) and I'd love to see a fairytale full forward story in Williams but what we really need is midfield clearance guys so Magna or Couch may get the nod

If Gawn's injury is season threatening, I would think they might want to take the chance on Mitch...sorry, Williams so that Clark is freed up for ruck duties when required.

Spencer in ruck before Clark please.

I get the feeling that it is Nicholson's to lose at this early stage but mature bodied rookies are there for a reason and we have a new coach now with new ideas so my vote is a tentative for Nicho.

I would hope so too (was just a thought)...

Couch or magner are more of a chance then the other guys I would say purely for the mature bodies and that hard at approach the coach demanding. Magner is one solid unit and from his own mouth very very happy to be at the dees and will not let the chance slip by watch this kid

Way to early. I'd let the new guys train a few times before taking a guess.

Nicho seems to be killing it at preseason + played well last year.

The new VFL lads would have to be pretty decent to skip infront of him?

One of them will get elivated eventually, once Grimes' does his yearly long term injury

The CBA may force our hand if the AFL say "go to 40 players right now"...

The Vets list is to be scrapped according to the new CBA.

The way our rehab group seems to be going we might need all the rookies

Were not the selectors. We're just having a guess, as supporters do, playing.

Go on, give it a try. You'll feel better in the morning, try it.

Nicho is a proven AFL player and by all accounts is already a leader at training.

As I say time and time again, time alone will tell.

I hope it is Williams who has a outstanding pre-season and selects himself.

A big strong forward, I cant wait.

Couldnt help notice the smile on Prendergast face, in the interview on DeeTV about him beating Col Garland in a few marking contests in match practice.

WE have been crying out for a forward, love a young kid to come in and start kicking goals weekly.

I also read somewhere that Collingwood were looking at selecting him. If he can come in and contribute to the team I will be happy for two reasons. The first being obvious, and the second being that there is nothing better than beating Collingwood to the punch with selecting a good player (similar to when we got Jurrah).

I agree and Grimes is sad but probably true again

Did Grimes have such bad injury problems before he was drafted? Or is it since he has joined the Dees?

As I recall he hd a back issue when drafted, from which he recovered.

The foot last season was totally unrelated.

But, yes, he has had two chronic injuries.

If I remember correctly some clubs were wary of Grimes' injury history prior to the draft. Had he not been seen as injury prone then he would have been selected in the top 10 of that year!

As for Rookie elevation! Lets see how Couch goes in pre-season matches and in a few matches for Casey before we become toooooo enthusiastic!

Remember the bloke hasn't exactly set the footy world alight in (what) 5 or 6 seasons.

Dan Nicholson showed great promise last season and should have been promoted anyway!

And I reckon we may see quite a lot of Magner during next season. He looks to be a real hard bastard!

Wow. "proven AFL player". He certainly has the speed and commitment to play at this level but my God he has barely been promoted off the rookie list and you make him sound like Chris Judd.

He has some potential. That's it. Hardly proven.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
