Title speaks fo itself. Rumour told to me this morning by prominent Dees fan who is a past board member. Still close with people at the club. Don't ask for names, but make of it what you will.....

Wont happen he wont come as a Rookie as he has been offered a big contract to Play WAFL with Swan Districts and we don't have a pick in the PSD!

Just passing on ifo passed on to me. I don't pretend to know more or how. I realise we don't have a PSD pick and that he has nominated, so there is a chance that he goes elsewhere first. Maybe it's the Neeld connection, I am not certain. I was also told that Port businessman has offered 1.2 mil if Power sign either Davis or Fev.

Would be a bargain if we could get him across.

The side still lacks maturity in defence.

i have asked my source for further clarification. His version of how cards will fall goes like this....

We will rookie him if he doesn't fall to Port or GWS IN THE psd. Again, just passing on rumour.

i love rumours, hope he slips through!

Great if it happens. Would cost us sweet FA. Knows the coach and Leigh Brown...winning.

Why would we go for a player that is 30plus at the stage where we are at?

Why would Davis agree to be rookied at rookie wages after turning down listed player contract?

Unlikely.

Does the Veteran's list only apply to players that have been at the club for X years? Or is X years of service in the AFL applicable?

No, only at the club you do the 10 years with.

This makes no sense. He left Collingwood because they offered him less than he wanted plus he wanted to play closer to W.A to be with his family. Why would he want to play for us and why would we want him to play for us.

Maybe he has already heard that he will not be picked up interstate. He rolled the dice and it didn't come up. He should have accepted the filth offer but didn't. If he wants to play footy next year he will go for a bargain price. His 2011 year in defence was solid as regardless of his previous flaky years.

Does a rookie have to be paid rookie wages?

Maybe he has put a price on his head for the PSD and has done a deal with us if he falls through.

Interesting one out of left field.

Anyone know what would have to happen for this to come off?

Sounds unlikely if not impossible

Besides, we don't want someone who chokes in Grand Finals, do we? I guess that scenario of course would involve getting to a GF first, so we could drop him from the 2012 GF team. ;-)

Fantastic big game player!

Excuse my ignorance, but how can we pick him up in the PSD, given we have filled our playing list?

The only option there is would be on the rookie list, am i correct?

Can he be upgraded from the rookie list?

If someone is on the Veteran list or If we have a long term injury.

Do we have a long term injury carrying over from last year?

Please do not mention Morton with the Heart Muscle problem.

Yep with only 1 rookie we have room for one player to be upgraded at the start of the seasonn, I'd say Nicholson is leading that race at the moment. But I just don't see the point in recruiting Neon. I doubt he'd be interested. It's Port or the WAFL for him.

Perfect player to dominate a final, like all those finals he dominated while playing for the Pies. FTB.

Regardless of anything else the notion that we can recruit a 30yo veteran to the "rookie" list certainly makes a mockery of the whole process.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
