Is there such a thing as a phantom rookie draft?

Yes, some of the bigfooty drafts contain rookie phantom drafts but they will be inaccurate now.

It only seems that way to those whose minds are totally Clutterbucked.

To the rest of us, I'm sure the question is of vital importance and I for one look forward to the appearance of the first genuine Phantom Rookie Draft either here or on bigfooty.

My interest is here:

#8 Fremantle – Gibson Turner (178cm forward - Federal)

Couldn't believe he got overlooked, and could be off the board before this pick. Turner is another one of those who has been splitting his playing time between the NT, Glenelg and school football as he is living in Adelaide for his schooling. Really skillful player with again some real speed, he is a smart player up forward and leads really well. Showed in the U18 Championships and in U18 football for Glenelg that he knows how to kick a goal.

#24 Melbourne - Marley Williams (181cm midfielder - Claremont)

Another kid who I probably rate a little more than others might. He is a strongly built midfielder/forward, but does have an impressive turn of speed. There is no denying he has natural talent, and there was one play in particular during the Championships against SA which they showed this - one handed contested mark, followed by a 55m goal off one step. I can see him debuting early, just needs to keep putting in the work.

#34 Hawthorn – Luke Wilson (174cm forward - Port Adelaide)

One of the smallest players in the SA squad, Wilson is the cousin of Danyle Pearce and isn't too dissimilar. Aside from a couple of reserves games, Wilson has primarily played U18 football for Port Adelaide and won a Rising Star nomination earlier this year. Very clean hands, coupled with his speed and natural ability, makes him an exciting prospect in the forward half

#47 Essendon - Ross Tungatulum (175cm forward - NT Thunder)

Some will remember the name as the former St Kilda rookie, and since his delisting he has gone back to the NT and has improved out of sight. Really matured too. Excellent forward crumber and strong defensively, Ross would be ready to play from Round 1. Don't think any team would have problems keeping him either.

#51 West Coast – Alroy Gilligan (177cm forward – Claremont)

20 years old now, Gilligan spent time on Richmond’s rookie list but spent his time either injured or in the VFL. He has gone back to the WAFL now, and has become a more consistent player. He has always been highly rated, has definite x-factor and can play in any number of positions. Well worth another shot, perhaps a WA side would be his best bet.

Great effort to analyze it to that degree.

yep someone has a lot of spare time on their hands to know the prospects that well!

Watching training today, if Jai Sheahan is there in the third or fourth round we will take him. I think we will take Leigh Williams, Couch, Sheahan and Cutterbuck

I think that we will take Shannon Burnett after watching him at training. Barry Prendergast & Tim Harrington were there watching him intently. And he was mighty impressive IMO.However, one never knows, there will be many surprises tomorrow. However, I also think Clutterbuck will go very quickly. I think they will take at least one tall maybe two mids and the best available. Although I think they will try out Taggert as a midfielder. Therefore, may only pick up one other rookie midfielder.

Our mail is West Coast want Clutterbuck. I'm not sure where their picks fit in with ours.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong, I may have missed something. I was under the impression that we were allowed 8 rookies as I thought the AFL increased it. We have retained Nicholson, Evans and Lawrence but we only get 4 more picks. Where have I stuffed up? Cheers.

I think you are allowed something like 38 main list players, 2 veterans and 6 rookies. As we only have 1 veteran I think we are allowed 7 rookies. Minus the 3 you mentioned thats 4 more picks. As those 3 are all smalls I expect us to go with a couple of talls and a couple of smalls.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
