Jack Watts' misses in Freo last year were bad misses for both Club and player. In a pretty good year (compared to this one and seasons before it), a win in Perth would've been a big thing.

Hassa Mann's shocker post-Gabbo run in the 1964 Grand Final (from directly in front) which could have put us back in front with a few minutes remaining. We finally strung some 'beautiful football' together courtesy Barassi and Bourke only to see Hassa miss. Fortunately Neil Crompton stepped into history shortly after.

On the flip side;

1964 second last H&A round. Melbourne vs Hawthorn. Hassa Mann kicks a freakish goal in the dying moment to win the game for Melbourne. A week later, at the end of the H&A seaosn, Melbourne finished top, and Hawthorn finished 5th (missed the final 4). If Hassa Mann's kick had missed, Melbourne would have finished 5th, missing the finals and Hawthorn would have finished on top.

The GF is in the bag, we then beat the Pies easily in the second semi and I thought how easy is this.

I havent been back. Never wanted to go back. As I speed past it on the Monash, I still curse it.

I was going to mention it but as Bush Demon says it was one arm waving but "hollywood" went for glory. Shocking kick.

You could see the whole disaster start to unravel like a ball of rubber string. Its starts off slowly then unwinds faster and faster. The last quarter was a disaster waiting to happen. Its the same feeling Blues supporters would have had when MFC ran over the top of them in the 2000 SF. You could see the momentum change ahead of the scoreboard.

Brian Wilson & Robbie Flower both had broken collar bones after that game, so i don't believe we had any show against Carlscum.

Not to forget that Garry Lyon and Alan Johnson were out injured as well.

In my memory Eishold wins hands down at least as far as Melbourne matches are concerned.

That would have given us a lead -- and poor Jimma's run across the mark would never have happened, or if it had, been irrelevant and long forgotten.

Still, nobody would have beaten Carlscum the following week, after that swelter at VFL Park.

That's the one - Tony Eishold! I think Northey fumed about it for weeks afterwards!

Yes but we would have taken the last round game against Footscray more seriously if this were the situation.

As I recall Northey gave Stynes a frightful bake in the change rooms after the game, which he subsequently apologized for some days or weeks later. I may be corrected on that but pretty sure that's what happened.

Trapper with the kick-in after a Norf behind. Kicks it out to the back flank and the ball bounces over the boundary line, Swallow swoops on the ball after the throw-in and kicks a lucky goal from outside 50.

IIRC, we lost our first nine games that year and had been getting gradually closer to a win up until this game. Typical Trapper brain fart.

With due respect to Trapper there was no one standing goal side of Swallow when the throw in happened. I think that was Trappers error. He made a reasonable decision to go neutral to the boundary because there were no available targets for the kick out.
