Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Col Sylvia suspended for Round 1, 2012

Well 2011 just continues to deliver the goods for us doesn't it.

Sucks that the whole team has a tougher job now because of his stupidity... Maybe he should spend less time getting haircuts and more time developing some common sense.

We'd better not lose to the Lions in Round 1!

he's gotta stop hanging around with his stupid old mates, have to be bogans from Northern suburbs who are obviously bad influence on the guy.

In the long run the club will reap a dividend.

I hope you're right, but going on past reprimands, it doesn't seem to have worked yet. I really hope Moloney gets on his case as he's proved it is possible to redeem yourself if you are prepared to work had.

Well I think it's BS. The guy was on annual leave. He was smart enough not to drive. The police are taking no action because no offence was committed.

You try telling the MFC that... as far as they are concerned, he was representing the MFC as a member of the IR team and he behaved in an irresponsible manner with regards to his commitment to the IR team; and I really don't care what you think of the IR game (I don't think much of it myself) - he accepted the offer to play and as such has, as a professional sports person, a responsibility to that team (do they get paid or play for free?).

Neeld has the balls to risk losing a game to change the culture at the club.

He passes his first test.

Col Sylvia for captain!

...anyone?

Ha Ha.

Thought the same thing. Never a leader's bootlace.

Also the expectations of another big year for Col. Well he has 21 games to do it.

I recall he got suspended for charging in the second last game of the year. A dumb act. Does he have any carry over penalties for 2012?

Not to mention the fact that this will teach him that his actions impact the club, not just him. He now has to face his team mates in the knowledge that he has impacted their chances in round one - I dare say any hope of joining the leadership group has well and truly evaporated. I only hope he uses this as a motivating factor as we saw Moloney do... Col must realise he is probably on his last chance.

How many times does he need to learn that? A perennial dumbass. I am not sure he is on his last chance...yet but he aint a leadership contender.

Not driving was about the only smart thing he has done.

MFC start pre season training on 31 October 2011.

And Colin is out a week before it starts getting smashed.

Duh!

He was punished by the IR squad by being left out of thr international team. Question? Would melbourne have suspended Sylvia had he not been in the IR side but simply on leave?

Maybe, maybe not... the fact is that the MFC sees him as a representative of the MFC in the IR team... so they punish him accordingly; and rightly so.

Change the culture? You must be kidding. We're regarded as a bunch of pissants. Sylvia shows a bit of mongrel occasionaly and everyone becomes sanctimonious.

How the f**k is getting [censored], walking away from the scene of an accident involving your own car (even if your not the driver) and not contacting the club for several hours (after the police, in fact) "showing a bit of mongrel"??? It certainly shows a great deal of terminal stupidity, but mongrel?.... nah!

And the fact that the club is prepared to come down hard on him will hopefully be a sign that the pissant culture is on the way out.

Some genuine validity in this question. There are I suppose elements to the transgression. Some apply as result of him being a Melbourne player representing himself, the club and the nation. As to his naughtiness regarding the IR , well hes been punished for that. There are still the issues of him representing himself and also the club in his actions after the smash. Its been adjudicated that he failed in this regard also and is punished where applicable.

What has stupid got to do with it? Sylvia is not a Rhodes Scholar - we know that. However, there is no evidence that he was [censored] ( but he may have been). My point is this - what harm has been done to MFC given that he was on leave , he was not driving and the police do not consider an offence has been committed. Sylvia is a victim of the fact that ther is not much footy news at the moment.

Well if we lose to the Lions, it's not going to be because of Col. It would take a monumental team f up if it were to occur.

Ok, cross out "stupid" and replace with "lacking basic common sense" - the club has stated he was drinking the night before and if he wasn't driving and then left the scene, it is fair to assume that he was probably concerned about his condition at the time (and possibly the driver's condition). Maybe the police don't consider it an offence, but the club do in as far as their standards of player professionalism are concerned. I would almost guarantee that if you held a high profile position in a large high profile corporation and while on your annual leave, did something similar that became public knowledge, you might find yourself in a much more precarious position.

If you're not happy with the outcome, take it up with the club!

No different to the previous coaching administration.

Did what had to be done in the situation.

Not sure about that. Bailey was presented with the same decision on a star player (Moloney) this season but didn't ... wouldn't ... go as far as Neeld has and actually rub him out for a game.

Self-preservation trumped culture change on that occasion.

Whispering_Jack - I agree.....He needs to stand up and be the player we need him to be. My instinct is this is the year that may well define a one Colin Sylvia

He only got him sacked as VC. A clear public demotion that resulted in a huge kick up the clacker and the player responded. Self preservation be damned. Moloney was a changed player for the whack.

There was also Aaron Davey that was suspended for one week after indulging at a family function in Darwin a couple of years.

"refer the MFC media release where it states hed been drinking."

I conceded he had been drinking.( Though no evidence to the extent) My points remain.

So do you think MFC just would have put that in the media release without confirmation? Hmmm

No one is going to go near an international rules game that is played in Australia....Yes Col stuffed up...But it was in the off season...

It was one week before the start of the pre season and an experienced player decides to go drinking to 6am. Hardly the off season and very poor preparation for the main season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
