Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I said nothing of the 'facts'. My comment was effectively a swipe at what seems in your stance to be a cavalier disregard for player discipline and an inability to comprehend - as CS seems unable to do - that nightclubs + booze + [censored] mates + cars = trouble.

Your boys will be boys line of thought is archaic, John Elliot type stuff.

When did a mates place become a nightclub yoda?

Remove that word from the equation if you like. It doesn't dilute the point I made one iota.

I don't get the Sylvia apologist's take on this. What is it about the dumbness of the cocktail of booze and young blokes getting in a vehicle with each other that's so hard to understand?

Baffling.

Look, that's easy to do and I did know the point you were making

But, I'm getting annoyed at how many posters on the hang-em-high side are a bit loose with the truth or facts ("out on the turps", "dangerous driving", "leaving the scene of an accident", "criminal offense" "nightclub" etc etc)

There's no need to gild the facts in this case. He was an idiot but lets not blow this incident into a capital offense by the loose use of terminology and speculation

end of sermon (I hope)

DC..cant let that slide to far.. its a given that he was out that night drinking. Had he not been he would have been quite capable of driving his own bloody car.

Out on the turps = having a drink (or 5 )

Now given the issues that hes been remonstrated for do you really want to argue he wasnt ?

now now BB you knew my point was that he was not "out" in public as was inferred

he did do 2 things "right" [1] did his drinking at home [2] didn't drive his car himself

nuff said anyway

Is it a coincedence that the Melbourne pkayers in the IR squad could be viewed as possible MFC captains or at least leadership? Ever asked yourselves why CS BG DF and JT wre in the team to begin with. My guess is MFC pushed for these guys to play as part of a leadership trainning experience given our apparent lack of leadership skills. If this were the case and it was some what of a test it would be fair to say that Col stuffed up big time. Seriously. i know its a second rate squad but what a chance to learn and gain respect from your peers. ......?

I think that is a long bow.

Players were asked, the keen ones put their hand up - end of story.

I highly doubt we pushed the boys to get involved, it is not the kind of thing I would want 4 important players to do while a new coach is starting up.

Its coincidence.

The IR is an end of season jolly.

Nothing on leadership there.

I don't understand how anyone has an issue with Sylvia leaving the scene.

He didn't break the law himself and had no real obligation to stay.

Obviously the smart and responsible thing to do was to stay, but to me it appears Colin was trying to do the right thing in the circumstances but unfortunately he's just not the smartest bloke and made the wrong decision.

I honestly think he would've thought "Crap! I can't be seen here! It'll bring a negative media focus onto the club - the best thing I could do, seeing as I have no real obligation to stay, is to leave before cameras arrive so the media don't know I was involved."

Now obviously there's also a large portion of "saving his own skin" in that, but I think the intentions were there, but he's really just not that sharp a bloke.

Clearly the prudent thing to do is to own up to it, immediately contact the club, stick around, be open and honest to the police and to the media, and then face the consequences like a man.

Unfortunately for Colin, I think he might need to borrow a dictionary for the word "prudent".

*this post obviously ignores all the other issues associated with the unprofessionalism of being out drinking the night before training with the Australian. Fwiw I support the punishment handed out to Colin and think it sufficient.

That's a big caveat.

He was unprofessional and it is something that he has to grow out of.

All the other stuff is him being an idiot and that's fine.

How is that any more plausible than some other excluse, like that he panicked and didn't want to get in trouble?

I don't see any evidence that Sylvia was thinking of the Club at the time the incident occurred. If he had a track record of looking after Melbourne's image then I might buy it, or if he did something at the time that indicated he was thinking about the Club's image, sure. However, the fact that Melbourne brought up - in their statement on his punishment - the fact that he didn't get in touch with the Club in a timely manner indicates he wasn't.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
