GWS sack CEO Dale Holmes

Featured Replies

Maybe Holmes' salary was also included under the salary cap and GWS needed to make cuts to fit Lucky Phil in

Let's hope he's real pi%%ed and spills the beans on this other 'saga'.

So now the truth will come slowly leaking out....Good, that is all i ask.

Maybe this is why Jimmy made that statement in the paper earlier this year when he said "It is wrong that young players have to lie"

Open up their books for all to see...

So they can afford $cully's dad

I like the thought but i believe the AFL's response to you will be

"tell WYL he's dreamin' .. "

Hot News Flash.

$$cully's Mum is now the new CEO

Culture :)

The Culture Club.

Boy George will be number 1 ticket holder.

What's that song.... Karma Chameleon something..?

This whole situation is really starting to stink!

This really appears like the AFL sacking the CEO because they realise there is a mess that needs cleaning up (and covering up) before the [censored] really hit the fan.

With the apparent imminent appointment of Dave Matthews (big AFL brain) as GWS CEO it certainly looks as though some direction has come down along the lines of 'this is embarrassing us, people.'

Is there any evidence that Holmes' sacking is in any way linked to Scully Sr's appointment? For all I know, Holmes' might have been against the idea or he might have developed the plan or he might have had no idea. And any one of those reasons might or might not be behind his sacking.

looks like the AFL are trying to pull them into line, they are spending money willy nilly that the AFL invested i mean sheedys son as a recruiter, and scullys old man now aswell if they were highly rated recruiters then fair enough but i have never heard of them this has got sheedy and grubby allens dirty prints all over it just seems like there trying to milk the AFL to line there own pockets i doubt they really care if GWS succeeds or not as long as they become rich in the process. GWS is destined to fail why the AFL put sheedy and grubby in charge is mind boggling

i wouldn't be so quick to make that assumption...seems there is infact large amounts of "Trouble at Mill" up there in Rooted Hill

Ok so if he hadnt already Scully has shat all over his image, atleast he and his family will be very very rich

I would think it'll be a cold day in hell before much really eminated from the bowels of GWS . Keep in mind its books are really just a chapter of the AFL's own. Vlad isnt likely to unveil much anytime soon.

Be interesting to see where Holmes heads next.

Can't help thinking that GWS is looking like the AFL's worst-managed club.

And they aren't even an AFL club yet.

Head of recruiting stood down for bizarre abusive behaviour against former colleagues, just as the peak of trade and draft period comes in.

CEO sacked without an immediate successor. Either he's a total crank or the board is a bunch of total cranks, or both.

Two senior coaches who are both a bit weird, and no clear relationship in the coaches box.

Overpaying junior non-stars, completely failing to recruit anyone capable of true on-field leadership.

Actively antagonising the 'old' AFL community for media attention in ways that mean nothing and impress nobody in the Western Sydney community.

Weak sponsor group, weak fanbase, weak community involvement, pathetic 2nds competition.

Such a Good idea these new Teams...Growing the code indeed.

Whats going to happen is in 2-3 years time they will have to offload at least 5-6 young players to keep $cummy and fat Phil in the salary cap, the club will be in Tassie in 5 years, its a bloody joke.

Even Tassie don't deserve this effen lot

The contrast with the gold coast is amazing. GWS is an abdolute circus.

So true I can't believe the difference between the two. The question is when did Phil scully agree to the job and when was it offered to him? I doubt the AFL gives a damn the draw is out soon and then something else will come up and it's all going to be let through to the keeper.

Some of the hand wringing here is overdone.

There is no doubt Holmes has not been clearly open with the Board on the offer to Scully senior. And he and the Club have been badly exposed for it. It was a poor commercial slip up by a CEO and he has paid the price for it.

The perils of the GWS have also been the perils of other Clubs over the past couple of years.

Now there was one club that sacked their coach and were going to sack their CEO instead.....

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
