There is still 300 AFL reporters running around looking for a story because they don't get their break until Christmas, and "Melbourne did a good job" just doesn't sell copy. And nothing else happens untill the end of next week with the release of next years FIXture. With you there, O55. I thought King was a bit sharp, but the more I listen to him, the more I think he tries too hard to make clever points, but instead says the bleedin' obvious or make big statements that flop.

A few years ago King was a shining star among the young assistant coaches but he ended up going nowhere. Today, he's a hack in the media - what a massive fall from grace.

What's more, he's now known for the prediction he made before the finals about how Geelong were no good and going nowhere.

After that, his credibility on anything to do with football, let alone the MFC, is non-existent.

I wonder about a journo who finds it necessary to raise the old furphy about the MFC not standing for anything these days. It was a throw away line that Andrew Demetriou used to bully the previous administration when the club was in debt and performing poorly. There's an outside chance that it might have meant something back then but I disagree that it has any relevance today. If Denham brought it up in the context of the club today then he was either showing his ignorance, being churlish or both.

On topic, I am not sure Denham "Hates" MFC, nor any other journo.

What they do is seize a very easy opportunity to sink the boots in and sensationalize a story / situation.

MFC is easy to do this to because we have had our issues and our off field situation has been more interesting news than most other clubs (maybe St Kilda takes that cake now?).

The only think that can stop it is us getting better in all facets of running the club and playing football.

What we as supporters can do is get our membership above 40,000 to show that we could not care what knobs like Denham think, instead we only care about supporting the club and the people who dedicate themselves to making it successful.

When pressed on SEN Kennett declined to confirm the story. The club has now issued a media statement saying it is garbage. The club also basically told him to watch his own backyard. The fans that turn up to the games are clearly passionate, where i sit those that turn up are just as passionate as most club's fans, it's the ones that don't turn up that worry me.

I'm in the Legends club which is fully sold out, but most weeks there would be less than 50% of the members there. I've seen home games that are pivotal to our season and we still get outnumbered by the opposition supporters. There have been times when I've been ashamed at the turn out and just shake my head wondering what it will take to get some of our supporters out of their homes in front of the TV to actually attending the game live.

Look, I have 7 Legends memberships and usually there is me, my son and his son and that's it

My point was two-fold.

Firstly, that it was extremely ironic that you were bemoaning the lack of reserved seats being used when you have a bunch of reserved seats that don't end up getting used.

Secondly, your own anecdote about why your reserved seats were often vacant undermined any link you were trying to draw between the number of people leaving reserved seats vacant and the passion of Melbourne supporters. As your own anecdote indicates, plenty of people buy reserved seats with the intention that they won't necessarily be used each game.

As an aside, having reserved seats sit vacant is in no way unique to Melbourne's reserved seating areas, in case you thought it was. I'm not sure if you're familiar with ticketing at AFL venues (I'm familiar with ticketing at a few here and interstate), but many, many reserved seats are left vacant each week (and this includes not just 'season' reserved seats, but also reserved seats that are pre-purchased for that particular game). Don't take my word for it though; The Age had an article about the AFL's push for reserved seating and the negative imapct on crowds as the sport section's 'editors pick' featured article for a few weeks (or longer).

The hanbaggers turned their on field reputation around in one to two years.......and did it without tanking. One of the seats I buy is for my son who lives in Townsville and can't attend, that's relevant. My wife doesn't have any interest in football and doesn't attend nor does my third eldest son who also has no interest in football and never has; that doesn't stop me from encouraging them to go.

I buy quite a few other memberships that go unused for the same reason, and of course to help the club. Are you suggesting that this is the norm and that a large percentage of memberships are sold to people that have no intention of using them?
