Would love Tyson to come to Melbourne, if nothing else than for me to have the opportunbity of complimenting him on his surname more often. It is one of the classics in my view.

Goldsack is just about my favourite player in the AFL. I rate him really highly, and would like him to come to the Dees, but as has been stated, that's pretty much just not going to happen.

He has an uncanny nack of making a contest or spoil when he looks like he shouldnt be able to get there, he'sa 1%er expert, and has absolutley no ego about him - i can see how people might rate him highly

Watching Goldsack's game v West Coast last week I hope Melbourne will be making a big play for this bloke. Has a hunger for the hard ball and will move anything in his way to get there, also has quite a nice mark on him.

Ch 10 news just reported that the Dees apparently have a 2 yr deal on offer to Byrnes as a RFA

and two years is fine too. unless he makes a real impact on the field then i cannot see why he could play atleast 3 years. but yest 2 is good enough. his leadership will be very vital and will add pace and skill to our lineup

My Geelong mate reckons he can't kick. That doesn't accord with my recollection. Anyone know for sure what his kicking is like??

Can't believe they would entertain bringing in someone who can't kick. We have enough of those already.

I dont have an opinion on his kicking, but you dont need to be a great field kicker if you're kicking goals on the run from <10m out (which is what i think of when i think shannon byrnes)

I have watched a lot of Byrnes over the past 5-6 years. Look, he's ok, he's not a star, but he's a handy player. He's not getting a game at Geelong, mainly becasue Stokes and Christensen are "ahead" of him. Nb. I'm not sure I personally would rate either ahead of Byrnes in regards to that small forward/pinch-hit mid role (I think Stokes is "in" with the right people, and Byrnes isn't).

In regards to his (Byrnes') skill level. He's like every other player on an AFL list. He hits targets most of the time, but is also known to produce a clanger. Put it this way, I'd rate his kicking higher than Grimes and Garland, but then, 95% of the league would wear a similar title. While I understand the need to hit targets, there's no player in the AFL that operates at 100% efficiency, and for that matter, there are very minimal players that operate above 80%. The obsession of some on here about a player's ability to hit targets all the time is a concern as it never happens! Where Byrnes would add to the team is the fact that he would work his arse off, so that if he does make a mistake by foot, he's likely to make amends in the next passage of play by running to space and creating a target.

When it's all said and done, there are minimal players in the AFL that "can't kick". If Byrnes were to have 15 kicks in a game at 75% efficiency, with 2 of those kicks being goals, then I'm sure he'll serve a purpose.

Agree. He missed on sunday from about 30 metres out straight in front. It was a pressure moment. I recall him spraying kicks often when he played for Geelong. In the end, for free, he could be of use for a year or two.

Will be very happy if we secure Byrnes. Very handy goal sneak who will fill a void and serve a purpose for us for a few years. Comes from a winning culture and will be a very good role model/mentor for a Kennedy or Garlett if we were to draft one of them at Pick 13.

Goldsack's a pass for me. Good footballer but he doesn't fill one of our main areas that need addressing with ready to go experienced players which for me are:

Small Forward: Shannon Byrnes will fit the bill nicely

Tall Forward/CHF: Fingers crossed for a Scott Gumbleton, Mitch Brown (Geel), Aaron Cornelius

Inside Midfielder: Koby Stevens, Steven Salopek, Simon Hogan

Outside Midfielder: Ben Jacobs, Sharrod Wellingham, Clinton Young

Small/Mid sized Defender: Jordan Russell, Josh Toy, Gavin Urqhart

He's a utility type who can play tall and small either forward or back. I reckon Garland has that role and in a better team would have the equal results to Goldsack.

To me, without wanting to get anyone's noses out of joint, Byrnes is average and despite being a small part in a respected powerful club in Geelong, he's been battling away in the VFL.

Not keen on him and it's more shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic than an improvement in our list. A short term plug-in-a-hole player..maybe...if he holds up.
