Yes we'll have to pay overs - $1.2M over 3 years and trade Petterd or similar, but doing nothing costs us so much more.

Despite this year's disappointing outcome (we even under-achieved my modest expectations) I don't think our overall campaign has been seriously deralied - it's the Paul Keating year we had to have - now we've hopefully got a much more robust coaching team in place. Sure we lost Scully which will hurt but if we go all out to get O'Meara with the compo he could be making an impact in 2013 along with Jack Viney - think Cyril and Joel Selwood. If Jack Grimes can get on the park and we have Rohan and Jordie in the midfield together with a year older Trengove and Gysberts I think we can take sopme rapid steps forward. Kosi will be 31 in 2014 - we can be top 4 by then and contending - he might kick 2 in the last quarter of the 2014 GF to break the 50 year drought. That's the big dream to sell him, while the reality is he provides a bridge to contimued contending in the 2nd half of this decade.

I guess my opinion of the benefit Kosi would provide is not that high, coupled with my being hesitant to lose Petterd unless it was for something considerably better.

I have no problem with 400k a year, but there is no way were trading Petterd for him. Required player in my team and Neeld would agree.

Yeah, we need a big bodied forward, but we can't rob ourselves to get one. I'd trade either Bate or Warnock for him, or a low pick.

ever since Ricky was sent back to the magoos for poor performance, he has come back with a tenacity to tackle and do all the 1%'s. Such a demotion has made him become an even better player, so his value to us as a club has increased significantly. There is no chance in hell we will let him go, after he showed through the latter part of the season that he is willing to play more of a team oriented role.

Kudos to Ricky for the change in mindset, it will not go unrewarded!

This is a guy who hasn't finished in the top 10 bnf at Saints for 10 years and gets good coin.

Unless its a Bate and a Warnock which are kinda of 2 needs Saints might look for (+ clears a spot on the list) and 300k a year with Saints picking up the rest of his salary, it's a no for Kozi.

Lenny Hayes thinks so.

Much will depend on the new coach and the direction the club want. Rather than rebuild as such, i think they will have a crack yet still try and evolve in the meantime. If that is the case, they will probably need Kosi in 2012.

The Saints don't need to do a hard rebuild like we did, but they do need to Renovate & freshen, so will be looking to 'shed' their old outer skins.

IMO they'll learn from what they did to Hudgton & Ball. So will keep Hayes on.

IMO they'll be looking to trade to get picks to do a quick freshen up of the List.

I can remember when Kosi was playing for the Murray Bushrangers about a decade ago and the pundits were comparing him to Neita. It will be interesting and ironical if he ended up at our club.

To get him across it might cost us a Matthew Bate and possible swap of a second round draft pick.

That said...the thought provokes me. Parking a big man down there until our own can come into play? Nice.

Furthermore, it may free up our forward line a bit and make us less vulnerable to the third-man-up play, simply because we would have less of a floating forward line ourselves.

That said, those who've posted the Tomahawk in here - I don't mind that idea either. In fact, I think a club that isn't Geelong would be incredibly good for Tomahawk, as he would immediately lose the reputation gain of his father. I'd rather him than Kosi.

Going strictly by the stats is always a dangerous way to go about it, but the numbers certainly don't condemn Setanta when matched up with Kosi. At a guess, he'd be on quite a bit less pay than Kosi, but would cost no less than Kosi in a trade. He fits the physical bill (2cm taller, 2kg lighter), has a bit of mongrel about him, and is in the same age bracket (6 months younger). On the downside, he only played 8 games this year in a side that could use a big key forward.

Again, I'd imagine Warnock could be part of a deal there, although Carlton's key defender situation is better now than it was a couple of years ago. Regardless, he wouldn't cost the earth and would be able to fill the role if we're going down that path.

Exactly Striker. He doesn't have to be adorned in Gold leaf. He just has to be Fit and break packs and have the ability to taker o/Head marks. Play tall.

Kosi has the height & Mobility. He's body seems fine. we just have to workout a role that suits his style If we go after him.

It's worth consideration - I thought he was OK late in the season - they're missing Kruezer (and Waite) who is clearly far superior. The fact is you get what you pay for and those wanting someone for Bate, Warnock or Dunn are shopping in the Setatnta department. Kosi would cost considerably more in trade and salary.

He wasn't even on their list this year. Got delisted at the end of last year due to injury concerns if I recall.

As for Kosi, I don't think I could tolerate the crap I would get from my St. Kilda mates if we picked him up. Not a fan and I think his career is rapidly coming to a close.
