Hopefully he can do something with Davey "anywhere"

Flippancy has no place on an internet forum!

The word is Craig will be announced after the Grand Final.

I never really knew what Kelly O'donnell's role was, but is he still on board ?

At least my info was spot on..

I told you so when I said "This is good mail" Well done.

PS. Empty your inbox.

Hoping a couple of the remaining positions are filled by the following IP's out there still involved in the GF such as Matthew Lappin, Maxy Hudghton, Nigel Lappin, Blake Caracella.

Interestingly Caracella had a few years at Collingwood before the last 2 years as an assistant at Geelong.

I really like what I've heard about John Barker, and he has good breadth of experience (St.Kilda, Hawthorn and Carlton), but it would take big bucks to poach him away from Carlton after one year (but how satisfying it would be if we decided he was our man, and then snared him from the Scum).

At least my info was spot on..

Was a good get for sure.

You could have at least told me that you are in line for our forward position too!!! You'd go better than Mahoney anyway. By the sounds of it though, you apparently charge a fair bit. You better be worth it :) .

Nice get jcb!

I'm tipping Leigh Brown for forward coach, no info basis at all.

Rawlings hardly has the 'successful' background that Neeld was talking about for his FD...

I noted this as well .... presumably success will be written all over the backgrounds of the appointments to come

I'm tipping Leigh Brown for forward coach, no info basis at all.

Same ....also for no reason ( except that straight out of a premiership ( hopefully runner up !!) team - he meets the successful background criteria)

Question - are we sure that Kelly O'Donnell's position isn't one of the 8? If not - the substantial uplift in numbers is evidence of significant under-resourcing during Bailey's time

Sorry -you have takem me the wrong way- I was saying thank God that my info was correct-I was starting to question it's soundness especially when nothing was in the press or no release from the club.

I was trying to put your mind at ease - I got confirmation last night too. Hence the "IS"

This would also be a fair get- but my info tells me he is north bound.I'd like an experienced coach again for this role..a Lappin would do... but someone whom can give our forwards a plan and develop further with particular emphasis on kicking.

Sorry friend

To be fair, jcb has questioned Carey and the Ox. I would question them too. In an environment where teamwork is essential, my gut tells me that there's no room on our coaching panel for their massive egos, and I don't think they have the coaching experience that Neeld has said he is after. I really like what I've heard about John Barker, and he has good breadth of experience (St.Kilda, Hawthorn and Carlton), but it would take big bucks to poach him away from Carlton after one year (but how satisfying it would be if we decided he was our man, and then snared him from the Scum).

Hey thank you-- that is my name...

Caracella is my tip.

And I would also like Robbie Campbell to stick around as PT ruck coach.

I doubt he'll get a new playing contract.

Senior coach - Neeld

Senior Assistant - ???

Defence coach - Rawlings

Defence assistant - ???

Midfield coach - Royal

Midfield assistant - Greaves

Forward coach - ???

Forward assistant - Satterly

3 coaching positions to go.

What is the role of a senior assistant? In his B&F speech Neeld mentioned the club impressed him by being willing to agree to his plan for 8 coaches. With 2 per line and Neeld then it does appear there is one more but is that as a senior assistant or as an opposition coach (similar to Buckley at Coll) or is that the Casey coach?

I'm not sure we need a senior assistant who doesn't have a line to coach. The forward coach is the next important one. I feel like they would want someone who Satterly can work with and maybe they've already got one in line. Maybe one of the Collingwood or Geelong assistants who are still finishing off the season?

Or old55's tip, Leigh Brown. I'm more inclined to want a Caracella or Lappin. Decent IP either way. With good experience.

From my vague recollection of the 2011 season... Brisbane whilst it didn't win a lot of games, never got blown away either, so if Rawlings was in charge of the Brisbane Defence, he did a pretty fair job. http://finalsiren.com/Fixture.asp?SeasonID=2011&TeamID=2#BigLosses says that their average losing margin was ~30 pts, not bad for a team that lost all but 4 games. (Our Losing Margin was up around 56pts)

Also for those saying he wasn't much of a player (I might be biased as someone from Tassie) but he had a pretty good career whilst at the Hawks, I think he got curtailed by back injuries, and I think he saw the writing was on the wall when Franklin, Roughhead... and there was another tall forward who's name I can't recall started to come on. He got stuffed around in trying to get to Nth, but ended up at the Dogs.... never was the same at those clubs...

I think it is a pretty reasonable pickup for us. Wouldn't be the most expensive coach to get, but he has some good experience as a player and as a coach.

Not a bad effort given he lost Merrett for nearly all of the season & Adcock for a fair chunk of it.

I'm not sure we have gone down the right path with Rawlings as a defence coach. He played little time there I feel he would have made a better forward coach .However I just hope he does as good a job as Wellman and I will be most happy. Bring on a more experienced forward coach now and I will overall be most happy with the coaching panel.

Have to agree.... looking at the coaches we have bought in.... it feels as though we have announced all of the "easy to obtain" assistants (without wanting to sound rude) hopefully the last couple...yet to be announced have a little higher profile.... for example Neil Craig, Laidley, Sumich etc .. not saying I want these, but I guess the fact that some coaches are still to be announced hopefully means they have been involved in the last couple of weeks of finals.

100% correct.

I have no idea how good our assistants were in 2011.

At the end of the day they do not run out on the ground to play.

They weren't great.

Posted

I'm not entirely sold on Rawlings, but this is based more on his playing career than any knowledge of his coaching abilities.

Well youd be happy then as hes not coming to play :)

Disagree on Rawlings, he was a better defender than he was forward... Required to go forward at Hawthorn as they had nobody apart from the injury prone Thompson before Buddy came along, and did a good job... But was a very good defender prior to this...

And he was defensive coach at the Lions I believe...

Fair points that you have made- just noticed that Ben Hart is joining Collingwood as their defence coach next year- this,I guess will leave Max Hudghton Defensive Coach

out on a limb...May make a GREAT assistance to Rawlings. We can only hope...

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
