Whilst a lot of people are saying how does Clark fit with Martin in. I know Martin has had a really good year, but TBH if it was a case of having Clark or Martin I would take Clark.

As has been said here several times you can't get something good in trade week without offering something good up. Martin having a great year is potentially THAT something we might be talking about.

If, and this is a massive if, Melbourne could snag Clark I would be prepared to do the deal with Martin or Spencer as part of the trade, because Brisbane need a replacement for Clark, I mean they are considering trying to use Hudson for a stop gap... why wouldn't they be interested in a more permanent option to work with Leuenberger?

No way on Earth we should trade Martin in this Clark deal - Clark just isn't that good and even if we do get him he'll just want to return to Perth at some stage. Martin is comming into his own and is more versitile. Forget about Clark.

Essentially this trade is all about Clark wanting to come, I can't see Melb and Brisbane having any issues getting the trade over the line.

Oucher, if we offer a compo pick, or pick 12 for that matter, don't you consider that as giving something good?

It appears that the Lions want a first round pick, and at the moment, we have one that easily trumps Freo's, so why on earth would we want to throw in a player as a sweetener, especially if we don't need to, and if so, why would we throw in Martin, who has just signed a 2 year extension???

I would rather give them a first rounder than give Stef Martin and a 2nd rounder. If people are saying that Stef and a first rounder may be required, you are seriously paying overs.

Clark isn't that good but Martin is coming into his own and more versatile? I don't think we'll get Clark and offering Martin was purely a hypothetical but Clark is easily a better and more natural player than Martin. Easily.

This is one of those areas where people will disagree.. I think Clark would easily hold a role in our forward line, and could ruck alongside Jamar. He would take that role ahead of Martin, Gawn or Spencer (at this current point in their careers) Clark is currently better in both of these roles than Martin and in my eyes that makes him more versatile. Each to their own though...

I am not saying I would offer him up, but if it was something that Brisbane required to get the trade over the line, you would have to consider it as an option.

Love it! Great to have a big FF and provides great flexibility in the Ruck and Forward line with the likes of Russian and Stef. What appeals to me the most is he has a big enough body to fulfil that role and is 23 years old. Would want him on a 3/4 year deal. I'd be prepared to give pick 12. Can just image the headaches of opposition clubs trying to line up on Clarke, Watts, Jurrah, Green next year (+Cook 2013)!!!

an awful Hypothetical at that........ What has Clark done? As a Forward nothing!!! His only decent form was for part of a season as a Ruckman. He doesn't have many runs on the board, lets face it. Clark is seriously overrated and it is a farce that this trade week has somehow revolved around him. Don't get it

Stef Martin has shown heaps as a ruck/follower and also a tall defender but never have I seen anything to suggest he will be a success as a tall forward. If by some fanciful stroke of luck we manage to land Clark, I could easily see Jamar, Martin and Clark in the same side with Clark playing key forward and taking ruck duties in the 50 and Jamar/Martin playing as they did in 2011. Just gives the side more flexibility IMO. The one who would lose most out of this in the immediate term would be Gawn, but only for a year or so.

As a forward this year he averaged 1.6 goals per game with limited opportunities due to the lack of feed inside 50. Averaged in the mid to high 70's in Dreamteam points.

See ya mate. Kim Hangdom is a joke!!! Get's some wrong - that's the understatement of the year!!! WOW - reporting that Scully had left the building ages ago - as if that wasn't common knowledge!!! This is the same [censored] that said Lyon was signed, sealed and delivered when we haven't even spoken to him. He wrote an article saying that Neil Craig had landed at the Blues only to write another article 30 minutes later stating he was at Melbourne... Please excuse me for not buying into his rubbish. If you want to then by all means....

Does he suggest pick 12 and a compo pick?

The deal includes Melbourne’s first round national draft selection at number 12, as well as part of the Demons compensation picks they received in the controversial loss of brilliant second-year sensation Tom Scully to new club Greater Western Sydney.

I hope not, pick 12 and some junk yes 2 first rounders for Clarke doubt that right for starters, and 500K per year and people that throwing this much at Scully was rediculous

I think we will need to pay overs somewhat if we are a chance to get him. The question is how much.

The point I was trying to make is that Brisbane don't want to lose Clark, and need talls. If they requested a tall from us as part of the trade then the club surely needs to consider that, Martin has some currency, for the exact reason you don't want to let him go, he has value.

If we could get Clark for Martin and our second round pick... I would definitely consider that. But that won't happen.

We got the same compensation for Scully as Ablett... so we got ample compensation (some will disagree) so I personally think we are a little ahead of the game, if we have to pay slightly overs to secure a quality player in Clark lets do it.

For those rating Martin higher, this has to be based upon potential rather than what each have produced up until now.

Clark is 23, he kicked 27 goals this year (2011 Leading Goal Kicker), was considered unlucky not to be AA a couple of years back as a 21yr old tall. 3rd in their B&F in that same year, has kicked a bag of 5, won their most courageous player in 2009 as well (impressive when Jonathon Brown plays in your team)

To say he isn't versatile or not that good is a bit disingenuous.

Take a look for yourself, then compare that to what Martin has done. Clark has done more than a lot of talls have done at his age. 80 odd games is about when these players start hitting their prime. Seriously good player.

Haven't said that at all mate, I rate Clark, but I think you are overating what you think it will cost us. Freo offered Pick 16, Lions rejected it and said they wanted a lower pick. I'd offer pick 12 because from what I read in to the reports, it would get the deal done. This would give Brisbane 2 picks inside the top 12, and when you think about how much GWS are raping this draft, that's not a bad result for Bris.

Pick 12 in any year is a very handy pick.

He also wrote this -

"EMERGING Melbourne midfield ace Tom Scully is highly likely to stay a Demon for at least another year beyond the current AFL season. The teenage champion in the making looks almost certain to turn his back on the chance to become an instant millionaire with a move to new AFL club Greater Western Sydney. In fact, it is believed that GWS recruiting and list management head honchos Graeme Allan and Stephen Silvagni are already resigned to having missed any chance of luring the brilliant Scully to the Giants for their debut AFL season next year."

This is the future of journalism though...

In terms of sweeteners Spencer is a QLD boy, recruited from Redlands and will help out as a back up ruck for Brisbane

And dispite what people here may think, in the last 1 months prior to his injury Spencer had made huge ground imo, i was looking forward to seeing him whe nJamar went down personally,

He makes ense not saying he is an amazing sweetener but fits the bill non the less

Hi Billy, sorry probably didn't need that targetted at you, probably a more general comment at those saying Clark has done nothing to this point in his career as a forward...

Simma - that year he played ruck was because the Lions had no-one else standing and he had to do it.

Believe me, he's a better full forward than ruckman.

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
