Tom Scully in September ...

Grandson of a gun

Recommended Posts

Velocity have a huge announcement to make- about skulling- not Scully

Surprisingly no name stable of "stars" .

Fairly amateurish looking organisation .

People aren't exactly beating down their door to get on their books .

BIG NAMES FALL TO THE LURE OF THE GIANTS

"GWS coach Kevin Sheedy told the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph at the weekend the club planned to appoint co-captains next year. Scully is expected to be one."

If that's true then the GWS recruiting drive to date has been an epic failure.

Agreed!

Talking this morning to a player manager. Fairly new to game, firstly he has no idea about Scully but said GWS have missed their main targets and pretty much throwing a blank cheque at guys like Scully and Ward, who at the start of the year weren't high targets.

Also he said Merric Buchanan (spelling maybe wrong) will be a gun and should look at. He is also a gun Australian U/19 cricketer. Brother of the Brisbane bloke.

I have said this all along GWS is in huge trouble. If the 4 players are correct Palmer, Ward, Davis and Scully get ready for the AFL/VFL record books to have a huge year. Our loss to Geelong will be a good result for GWS. It seems the only players they can get are from bottom 8 clubs and they are not getting the top line players they need. At least Gold Coast built a good midfield and added three good defenders.

If Tom decides to go good luck to him, he will do his 5 years and come back to a Victorian club after that.

Which might prove Scully didn't lie.

Ive personally thought this decision is quite old now. I also have a sneaking suspicion the CLub knows in most ways but the formality. I suspect the Club now is saying..lets get on with it. We all have to move forward..yadda yadda yadda.

I await tomorrows presser

of course..just my opinion

Has a presser been confirmed by the Giants? Can anyone tell me what time it is on and where I can see it please?

yeah I agree, they will be absolute crap with very young players and a few rejects as 'experienced' players. After the initial 10,000-15,000 per game they will expect crowds of 2-3,000 a game and thrashings of 200 points. It is going to be the biggest disaster of all time and I reckon they will be moved to Tasmania within 5 years. I don't care if Scully goes as long as we get 2 first round draft picks for him.

I think I may have posted only either once or twice on this topic all year but must admit I am over it.

Sull make a decision what ever it is then we can move forward and look forward to 2012.

GO DEES

Don't kid yourself. If they get tiny crowds and 200-point blowouts, the AFL will change the rules to allow them to pick, say, 8 players from other clubs, no restrictions, no questions asked.

The AFL will not allow them to fail. Regardless of the cost.

This, they have taken a huge risk the AFL. It is more of a marketing project than an AFL team. It will be around no matter what. They have been given a two year window to poach players but will find it just as tough next year as players will see how much they struggle. Expect announcements by the end of the week on unsigned players I would think.

Might have already been done - free agency + extra salary cap for GC and GWS.

On face value this would support the stance that Scully still hadn't made his mind up or else there'd be a similiar article with his name in it.

Interesting...

If there isn't any confirmation for next 48 hours i believe that will be the case.

Do you reckon melbourne will just put out a statement like this if Scully goes. I rerckon GWS will have a presser this week with Ward & Scully sitting there in there new polos. Well if you want to give Scully the captaincy then go ahead but everyone knows he isnt ready for it.

Agreed. I'd expect confirmation of his departure within a couple of days should he decide to take the money. If he stays, then it might drag out a couple of weeks... that's how long it took Sylvia to put pen to paper anyway.

The longer it goes on the more chance we have of keeping him, IMO. Although it is only Monday morning, plenty of time for a GWS announcement!

Well looks like Scully is gone!

EVERYONE who had their name linked to GWS has gone!

Or, now that someone else has signed with GWS, does it make it less likely Scully will go, since apparently the opposite is true..?

Ward had not publically denied speaking with them. If Scully has already signed, he may want to wait a week or two to announce it so he does not impact his reputation or marketability.

I would imagine he just has to decide if he is going or staying then will sign a contract with whoever the next couple of days.

Who is going to captain GWS? Ward Scully, thats surely why they are looking at power.

They should get McLean for that reason.

Get two years of leadership while they are shizen...

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
