What a [censored]. Considering that the ump who heard it deemed it worthy of pursuit, then it must have been bad enough to attract a suspension. Hopefully one day we can rid our game of these morons.

Do you know what he said do you?? I don't, but simply said that if an ump heard it and deemed it worthy of taking further, then it probably does warrant suspension. Sorry if I offended you.

Based on the fact that it has been investigated, I am sure it was more than just a "your momma" joke.

Posted

Are you two serious?

A few 'mum jokes' hardly warrants a suspension.

You don't know what was said. Remember what happened with Des Headland when Selwood called his six year old daughter a sl*t and told him that he f*ed her. Headland took him to the ground... most people in the public would do the same thing. I'm sure it was 'just a joke'....

Petterd played well so he must've just taken it in his stride, but will be interesting to see if anything comes out about this. The AFL is just as hot on female vilification as they are on racial vilification, especially after the Lovett trial (innocent or not).

A bit dis-appointing Petterds pointed out MgGinnity to the umpire IMO.

I had 1st thought the umpire had overheard it, but the vision shows Ricky making a big deal out of it.

OK, pay me 1200 bucks and we'll forget it.

AFL suspended him for one week

Actually, it was the CLUB, and not the AFL that suspended him! Well done to the Weagles for acting swiftly and decisively.

This is embarrassing. That a player can be suspended for this kind of thing is hilarious. That a club enforces this on their own player is even funnier.

I'm a bit annoyed Petterd tried to make something of it; and his [censored] dad comes out having a go at the Eagles player!

I think before criticising Petterd or his dad, it would be sensible to know exactly what was said by McGinnity.

Not that I'm suggesting that any posters making those criticisms are sensible...

It was obviously offensive enough for the umpire to take it upon himself to make the report.

mum jokes are funnier on drugs too id imagine

To be honest, at first thought I thought it was a joke, but unless we know the real circumstances, the jury's out for mine.

For example, I have no idea what Petterd's Mum is like (ie. Is she healthy? Still alive? etc). It may be nothing but an old fashioned "I've got photos" type of situation, which shouldn't be taken any further, but if there is a bit more to it, then I can appreciate where RP was coming from.

Happened in local footy years ago where I grew up - a guys was playing seniors, and an opponent commented about how wonderful it was that his parents were murdered at Port Arthur. That's what I mean about not knowing what was said and not knowing all the circumstances.

Also depends on what the players have had drilled in to them during their education events organised by the AFL/AFLPA.

stop teasing.... ill tell... umm ahhhhhh. what a joke

So you know the full story do you? How about waiting until the circumstances are out there. I get the feeling there is much more to this as it would be extremely unlikely that a player would get fired up like Ricky did over something as tame as a "mother" joke.

I recall in the NRL here in Sydney years ago, Mario Fenech, then playing for South Sydney Rabbitohs, suddenly burst out of a scrum and started hammering Balmain's Benny Elias (I think it was)... turns out that Benny had bee niggling with "hey Mario, zzzzzt, zzzzzt". Pretty harmless you would think, except for one minor fact - Mario had lost his brother through electrocution.

The problem is they can't say what was said. So other players have no idea under the rules what you can and can't say. SO how do they know where the line was.

on the radio here in Perth, it was reported by Petterd to the umpire? The ruling they talked about is very broad so almost anything can be included under it.

It was categorised as derogatory to Women; so dont use offensive language regarding Women.

Same as being categorised as Racially offensive; so dont use offensive language regarding race.

Pretty clear

and doesnt embarrass Ricky's mum anymore than she already has been.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 15th January 2025

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
