Is he still involved in football? Great warrior and someone that got the absolute best and most out of himself. Doubt he could have played another game.

Just got back from a year's sabbatical traveling the world with his family. Was recently interviewed on triple m by Garry Lyon interestingly enough and indicated he still has a hunger to be involved.

This guy played probably the key role in revolutionizing the culture at the Sydney Swans.

Bled for the cause and inspired his mates to do likewise.

Imagine him as a mentor to Trengove, McKenzie, Grimes and co ....

I attended a Swans dinner with some friends a few years back, and hear him speak was truly awesome.

He could have got that whole room to jump collectively from the Harbour Bridge if he wanted to.

Now I realise it was a sympathetic audience, but honestly it really was quite something to behold.

That on top of his on-field attitude and the tough, never-say-die approach to the game was always amazing.

He could be great and can leave Maroubra Beach behind and head south to the Dees any time he likes.

Agree completey with all above, however, I get the feeling this guy would accept a position at the Swans for a quarter of the salary that he was offered elsewhere.

Brett Kirk facts and stats

- Rejected twice by the Swans before earning a spot on their rookie list and forcing his way into the senior side

- Runner up in the b & f in '03 and '04 before going on to win the Swans b & f in their '05 premiership year

- 2006 AFLPA's most courageous player (with Glen Archer)

- Wins the Swans b & f again in 2007, polling in every singe home and away game

- Placed in top 3 pf Swans b & f for 7 straight years from 2003 - 2009

- Holds the all time record for most tackles ever in the AFL (1278)

- His final game against the Bulldogs last September was his 200th consecutive game (one of only 5 men to achieve that feat in AFL/VFL history)

Not to want to harp on the guy but wow, what a record. A champion in every sense of that word.

As a minnow club, I just can't see us ever winning a flag until we develop the kind of ethos that Brett Kirk took to the field with every time he played.

Self-sacrifice, love of the jumper and indomitable will to win. These are reasons why we show up week-in week-out to watch our boys play.

Stuff this me-first attitude era of bleeding the club dry over contracts and whingeing about everyone and everything when it doesn't go your way.

Certainly the type of guy we need around the club. But what is he doing now? If he is still involved with the Swans he may not be interested. We would have to offer him a substantial viable position like full time assisstant coach. I doubt we could get him down here in a part time position.

He's got four kids under six, I'm not sure he would move for a part time position......

I don't believe he is still at the Swans in anything other than legandary capacity.

Kirk wouldnt be a traitor to go to a nother club to furhter and expand his career. Its quite the accepted norm, in fact its a better path as you broaden your horizons etc.

Would make an inspirational choice as a midfield coach

Totally agree RR. If possible, we need such people around the club. Viney, Kirk...., he would come highly recommended and I would imagine many clubs would be intersted in obtaining him in some mentoring/assistant role at their club.

We've either got a role in the structure that we think Kirk could fill or we don't. engineering some role to get him "around" risks compounding the issues we have now as Connolly, Schwab, Viney and Lyon all have a crack at being puppetmaster (and the 2 of that group most capable have said they are not interested beyond the current crisis)

Funny....and yet not surprising is that those that many here would have at teh club are those whose careers were built and honed on the back of a very strong work ethic. Glaringly whats missing from many a Dees players match day offering is.....a relentless worth ethic.

Its not rocket surgery is it.

Agree, there are too many people around in not clearly defined roles. But it would be up to the new coach to decide if he'd like some one like Kirk around as an assistant coach. Assuming he is avaliable.
