Very strong "rumour" doing the rounds that the final straw that broke the camels back was ....

Demons have been approached by AFL to sell more home games in particular to Darwin

1 department liked the idea where the FD & players are not keen unless condition apply.

I cant validate this as fact so take it for what it worth ... suppose time will tell.

Big question would you be happy to sell more home games to Darwin?

I don't want to sell home games period, let alone to Darwin, but can I just say that this latest round of rumours just adds to my thinking that we must have the biggest bunch of sooks playing for us.

Has our playing group been doing anything this year except whinge and complain? Maybe if they spent less time carrying on like pork chops and getting involved in club management they might have more free time to work on not getting smashed by 31 goals

Hawthorn play 2-3 games a year in Tassie don't they?

I have no issue with it. As long as we still get 11-12 games at the MCG a year, home or away.

There are some significant differences between Tasmania and Darwin.

Heat/conditions and commute are two major ones.

No more byes as GWS makes 18 teams

The players need some Byes through the year to Recouporate. I think we still need 2 byes a year.

Fill them with State of Origin games.

Yes there are differences in the heat area however the WA sides cross the continent every other week.

I hope the players are not using the trip to Darwin as an excuse for last weeks performance.

Ironic, if true - particularly given that certain players seemingly hardball the club for more dough on their contracts, yet can't understand why the club needs to sell home games to raise more money.

Yeah, that will give the players a rest???

Rumours are dangerous, don't believe everything you hear.

What its dangerous for Melbourne to try and find ways to raise $500,000 in ONE game when your total profit for the year is estimated at $100,000?

So if we had not played in Darwin this year we would have lost $400,000 for the year.

Think its even more dangerous to make a loss!!!!! :)

The Humidity is a killer. The gains we get from Darwin are great people wise, but the playing group will always suffer.

Darwin games only make it harder to climb the ladder.

I was all for it early last year, but not now.

Collingwood or Geelong would never play up there, for good reason.

it's too hot and taxing.

While all you say is true please don't tell me the problems with our playing group are the result of playing one game in Darwin.

We turned in a number of crap performances long before the Darwin game.

The Geelong game was just waiting to happen IMO

I spoke to Jordie M at the airport after the Darwin game and asked him whether it is likely to affect the following weeks game. He said physically with an 8 day break there is no issue. He said it is all between the ears.

Interestingly at the airport you notice who mixes with whom. Whilst most players were in the bookstore or getting something to eat Sylvia and Scully were sitting alone in deep conversation. Doesen't mean anything of course it just looked odd at the time considering both are having contract negotiations.

No. I mean i actually like going to watch our home games!!

Sadly there is not another 50,000 like you EVER week. Then we would never have to sell our home games ... EVER, EVER again.

Sad there was not 30,000 that like to travel to Geelong .... then you would get that game moved back too Melbourne (possibly at the MCG ) ... & we would never have to play at that hole in the ground call Shell Stadium.

However, in a perverse sort of a way I'm glad we did play at Shell Stadium ... this year.

Worth noting that the money we get from selling one single game to Darwin, could pay for the team to have preseason trip to Arizona.

It's not negligible.

Now there is an interesting way of thinking. Definitely not something you would hear out of some footy departments.

They would want it both ways ... no Darwin travel, Arizona is a must.

If the people who voted no can find us a way to make the same sort of money without doing it then I'll be happy to change my vote.

ahhhhhhh ... another very good point. I congratulate you.

But they will be the very people that complain when we lose, but they wont pay the price to assist us to win.

Thank-you for your comments

My main issue is to not have more games in darwin OD We are behind the 8 ball enough as it is.

I would prefer to have no games in the top end...it does disadvantage the players.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
