Eddie McGuire can’t stop Malthouse

As I mentioned on a thread about a year ago, the courts will not force a person to perform personal contracted services. Which leaves Eddie to sue for damages or lost profits – and they are mighty abstract in this case. I assume there is a contract already between MM and the pies, but there may not be. I also believe the courts would not stop MM from coaching another team.

I understand that Eddie indicated that MM has a moral obligation to stay and MFC not to pursue MM, yet in the same breath he says that the Magpies are an $85M dollar business. So apparently it’s moral to give the coaching position to Bucks but not let MM coach a struggling team.

There are no morals down at Eddiewood. The only morals they have are the ones that suit them and no one else. What gall to preach morals.

Do you think there is a correlation between the two protagonists - only one with two chins.

Both of them try to take what they want...and they often succeed...The older one was better at it though and more ruthless, but then 80-90 years ago one could get away with many more things..

But i think Eddie would have read about John Wren a lot.

To think the MFC helped finance the building of Victoria Park...how wheels turn.

Malthouse was under contract when he agreed to go to the Filth.

Hypocrites.

I for one am worried the collingwood lawyers have had alot of practice of late with Heath Shaw and you see joffa at the game most weeks im sure there has to be some one apearing in court on his belhalf at that time.

Not that Micky is necessarily the answer but the nature of the beast ought to be to go about things to the best advantage of OUR club and Eddie can get get knotted !! Its the ruthless nature of going after what WE need that is indicative of whether we can really determine our destiny. To only do what others 'allow' you to do in this case would be soft. The filth dont think this way, nor ought we.

Bring it on Macguire !!

reading between the lines...if we get Mick, we can say goodbye to Queens Birthday...

Mick would probably say 'good riddance' - I don't believe he likes the way the MFC evolves around this fixture...

In the unlikely event we snag Malthouse, I would love to see look on Eddie's face...

I like Eddie. He has the passion and urgency that is desperately needed at the club. Stynes can only do so much. He's a business man and I admire him for turning Collingwood into what they are. I can put aside my support for Melbourne and admit that.

He's doing what any loyal, dedicated, hard-blooded President would do. It's completely within his right to say these things.

Yeah, and if someone were to call in on Eddie's breakfast show and mention that, that caller wouldn't go to air.

This is why I really think that Presidents etc, should not be allowed to work in the Footy media. It is the most perfect example of a conflict of interest. James Brayshaw manages to balance his media with his club position quite well, which only goes to show that he has lots of integrity. The lack of balance from Eddie only goes to show the exact opposite. But no matter how well others do it, I would prefer it not be allowed to try and limit such conflicts. It is wrong and unethical on so many levels.

I can't stad the bloke, but I agree that he has been great for the Filth. This doesn't change my thoughts above though. There are myriad people on here saying we need a [censored] of a coach, well maybe we need a [censored] of a Prez as well. Patrick Smith on SEN yesterday, was saying how we are a blob of a club, and recruit people with no personality. Now I think that is not true, but I do think that there are places in life (and footy) for nice blokes, and there are places that need people who aren't afraid to step on lots of toes to achieve what needs to be achieved. And this is one of them.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
