Geelong v Casey Scorpions

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

With the Scorpions a game out of the top four and only five games left in the home and away season, Casey faces up to yet another must win game, this time against Geelong in the curtain raiser at Skilled Stadium starting at 10.40am on Saturday morning. The Cats are out of the eight but their recent form has been good and they have come close to causing an upset or two.

There should be some interesting names in the Scorpions line up with Aaron Davey likely to return through the seniors and Austin Wonaeamirri returning after spending the past seven weeks with family on the Tiwi Islands on compassionate leave dealing with personal matters following the death of his father Matthew and mentor Maurice Rioli. Aussie might however, have to start in the reserves due to the fact that he has just resumed training and may lack the fitness for a game in the seniors.

Star midfielder Danny Nicholls is almost certain to play his first game of the season against the Cats after playing the two games in the VFL reserves in his comeback from injury.

The Scorpions' reserves are on track to play finals for the first time in more than a decade. They are in fourth position and play Frankston just 13 days after their last match resulted in a massive percentage booster. This time the game's on neutral territory at Victoria Park.

I hope to be able to post the teams for both Casey games later this evening.

A few notes:-

• Neville Jetta and Michael Evans were two of Casey's best players in the midfield a fortnight ago and both will be sorely missed. Evans has a back injury but it seems Nev is injured again. Bad luck for both players as another good game at this level would have come close to ensuring their promotion.

• Austin Wonaeamirri is obviously not ready to play yet. He's missed a fair bit of training and perhaps might need to undergo what would virtually be another pre season, so it suggests that he probably won't make it back to the AFL this year.

• Jack Fitzpatrick in the centre for the reserves?

• Casey's Danny Nicholls back in the team after a long lay off and co skipper Kyle Matthews starts again in the twos. He deserves a bit of luck to go his way and I hope he gets it.

Without Bate and Dunn I'd be really keen to see how Lucas Cook goes playing as a true CHF.

Besides that strong games from Davey (even a half), Bartram and Macdonald should see them return to the seniors

Disastrous start to the day with the Cats bursting out of the blocks and kicking ten goals straight.

Casey Scorpions 4.1.25

Geelong 10.0.60

Troy Selwood has five goals.

I thought the game didn't start untill 2:10 ;)

Looking forward to some player updates KC. Thanks.

KC, can you explain what's happening in the game. Are we getting belted in the middle??? Is it our defence. It's amazing this is happening given some of the guys we have in there like MacDonald, Davey, Warnock, Bennel, Blease, Bartram etc etc

The lack of pure midfielders in the list of players you mentioned probably explains most of it.

They definitely miss Evans and Jetta in the middle, that's for sure!

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
