You know what, I've supported Scully long enough but it's just [censored] now.

He has at least a week off now to consider what he wants and he has to man the [censored] up and make a decision or just [censored] off.

We have other contracts to sort and he surely knows what he wants now.

Sort it out Scully FFS you're a grown up.

Pretty much where I'm coming from too.

I'm just getting into the rationalisation and self-reassurance early.

Tom wants to be paid $600k or $1m... double any comparable player. He can take some responsibility and make a damn decision. This whole process has cost the club many thousands of dollars in promotional momentum, and put an extra question mark on the 'faith' of supporters.

With all due respect the truth will always come out one day (maybe). We must just be patient.

To the contrary, the Melbourne brand has had a suitcase load of free publicity over the past several months over the Scully saga. We're now the most exposed club in the AFL. We're in it every time I pick up a newspaper. This means that the Hankook logo is getting a fair amount of mileage. Kaspersky too. It's worth millions in free publicity even if we're not thrilled about the tenor or the quality of the journalism in question.

We're taking over from the Magpies as the AFL's most publicised club. It's fantastic!

Got a good point there Mr. Whispering....a win against the Dawks would be great right now.....will Tom be watching in the Graandstand on Sunday.

Range Rover must be going Bezerk this week, with all the press....and he is unable to Vent!!!demon_laugh.gif

With respect Nut, you're stating the obvious. The offer isn't predicated on his good looks.

What I'm saying is that Melbourne's offer is superb, it's double what he's worth, and the fact that he won't commit until the end of the season says much. He's clearly strongly considering going, because the constant speculation is unwanted by him, his club, his teammates, and his supporters. He'd be able to focus on footy far better without the distraction. Now people can say that it's not a distraction, but it is.

If Scully is definitely staying then come to the negotiating table to tweak the terms of Melbourne's fabulous offer. If you're going then man up and let the club know so that they can start planning a future without you.

I fully agree with your sentiments Tweed Pig. If the reports of our significant offer are true (and whether the figures reported in the media are accurate or not, the offer will be significant), then to procastinate on making a call is unfair, particularly if he already knows where he's headed. It's one thing to leave a club that has invested in you, but it's another not to give them time to cover the loss. I genuinely feel as if he has little respect for our club - that he is basically giving us the bird, and because we are deparate to keep him, we're letting him give us that bird. What makes it worse is that he is also putting his teammates under pressure. Every time they front the media, they have to field questions about what he is going to do and how the club is coping with all of the attention. That is completely unfair and certainly not the actions of a team-oriented man. It's not up to Jack Trengove or Brent Moloney to take the heat. It's not up to Dean Bailey to answer questions about it ahead of each game or Jimmy Stynes at his President's Lunch. If you want to take the dough, you have to accept the responsibility that comes with it. You can't on the one hand play the naive,media-shy kid, then on the other take the fat cheque that is the normal reward for deserved recipients.

You have been reading way tooooooo many newspapers. Please let Tom take the time he needs to make the correct decision.

The only reason we are in the position we are ... is our doing, not Toms. He stated where his mind was at during his press conference ... he wanted to wait till the end of the year. NOTHING has changed deal with it.

I don't think the MFC has been destabilized at all. The Press would like to see it happen, but i think the MFC has been rock solid.

1. The MFC have always backed their man Tom Scully on all fronts.

2. The MFC have offered a great contract offer

That is all that has happened. The media are just writing shite like most of Demonland is....we are all just treading water.

But i find it amazing that people are saying the MFC are under pressure and cracking!!!! Leave that to the Saints during trade week!

Will be interesting to see how his value will be affected if he has problems playing out the rest of the season. Are GWS really that stupid to offer $6m over 5 years to a kid with knee problems?

I think his knee issue is a really intersting one. I agree, surely GWS would baulk at a long term contract for a fellow with a potentialy chronic injury, the same one apparently that Cooney is struggling with (and that has really curtailed his running in particular) and has said he will just have to "manage" for the rest of his career. As a mid this would be a schocker for Skull to carry

Mate dont say that many around here have already banked those compensation picks ... you sure as heaven going to upset them.

Something about using them on 2 x 17yo they keep mumbling on about. That makes many mighty big assumptions.

As for TS being 'selfish' - all great sportsfolk are.

When playing, he does all the team things - tackling, 1%ers etc. He doesn't play selfish football - and that's what counts.

As for staying or going - que sera sera.

The MFC wins either way.

Tom is not being selfish, on or off the field.

Not necessarily. All depends on his final destination, which I hope is us. B)

Jaded and the Tweed Pig - you sound like you've been reading too much of Mike the self flagellating Sheehan. The more his pushed the happier I am for him to take his own sweet time, of course I'd like to see him sign with us but damn it he's just doing what he said he'd do.

and the 'very selfish' i think is unfair and flat out wrong.

Didn't his manager state that Tom didn't want to know the terms of the offers and wait until year's end ? I think I recall that recently. Which is consistent with initial plans.

With that senile old fool Sheeds in charge I guess they would.

Hangon007, with respect, I'd be interested to know if you were in Tom Scully's shoes, how would you justify to your team mates that they have to deal with constant questioning about your contract situation when fronting the media week in, week out? Particularly when you're not volunteering to manage the situation publically yourself? Would you think it's fair to let others take the heat for you? Is that how you establish a reputation as a team-man early in your career?

Which ever way it goes, Tom is positioning himself for a massive pay rise. With big money comes a big responsibility and that includes fronting up and being accountable for your actions... not letting everyone else do it for you.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
