Tom Scully

Recommended Posts

Will be interesting to see how his value will be affected if he has problems playing out the rest of the season. Are GWS really that stupid to offer $6m over 5 years to a kid with knee problems?

Is anyone running a book on how Melbourne's injury list will look when it's published on Tuesday evening?

I'm thinking of taking a wager on:

Tom Scully (knee) 4 - 6 weeks
.

Naturally, this will stretch out by another week or so in the fullness of time.

We might not have a large number of 'veteran' leaders, but Tom is hardly on his own as a driven kid determined to be his best.

An Eth38 - it is closer to "Can anyone give me a quick kneecap".

The evaluation -

Scully goes to GWS. We get -

2 first round draft picks to use in any of the following five drafts.

Presumably pole position to grab O'Meara for one of those floating picks, which GWS is very keen on having.

The salary cap space to add $50k/year to the contract offers of TEN different players we are trying to retain. Eg. Martin. Gawn. Petterd. Trengove. Tapscott. Watts. Sylvia. Grimes. Frawley. Garland.

A permanent vendetta against GWS to add to our cultural colour.

Scully stays at MFC. We get -

The most overrated and overpaid midfielder in the AFL.

(Ooooh... harsh!)

I don't get this.

I can understand believing that there is life without Tom Scully, because there is...

But I don't understand the "if we keep him, then that is bad" brainstamp...

I like the MFC.

Footy flags are won with gun players.

I want the MFC to win a flag.

Tom Scully is a gun player.

I would like to keep him.

Or alternatively, I would like to use the compo we get for him to get a gun player.

Nowhere in that is "we keep gun player, damin it!"

Well sounds like we finally have a resolution. Thanks little goofy. Why didn't we all just come to this conclusion in the first place. You make it all sounds so easy.

Thanks

PS Can I ask one question - What if Tom doesn't want to go to GWS as his first option?

Absolutely....this persistent knee injury could change a lot of contract figures on both sides. 5-6 year contract are very long, no matter who they are for. AFL is physically brutal and makes no apologies.

You know what, I've supported Scully long enough but it's just [censored] now.

He has at least a week off now to consider what he wants and he has to man the [censored] up and make a decision or just [censored] off.

We have other contracts to sort and he surely knows what he wants now.

Sort it out Scully FFS you're a grown up.

Thats the wrong attitude ... never ask for "something" you dont really want to see happen.

Jaded he may have made his decision long ago. B)

I still hope we are in front, but we are loosing ground fast, especially with many of the attitudes around here.

I have no doubt that his mind is already made up, which means he is either a coward too scared to tell the club, or he's selfish and holding out for even more money even though he wants to stay.

One way or the other, he now has a bit of time off to work it out and make a decision. It's impossible to keep dragging this out for another 2 months.

I agree with this....now that Tom has some time off, he can certainly bring forward his strategy for next year. It will also help the MFC sort out the Sylvia contract.

Last time Tom had a sore knee he was out for 13?? weeks, this time hopefully will not be as long, but certainly long enough to have "meaningful" discussions with all sides.

Mate you better watch the mods dont accuse you of ranting.

But I would suggest you have still got the reason wrong. But yeah if he does go if it makes you feel any better yes he is a coward, selfish or for the money (none of which I believe or are consistent with what he has said)

Please dont insult Tom.

I dont understand why so many are so quick to go into bat for scully? Yes he plays for the dees, but he's not the second coming of christ FFS.

Cant say a bad word about Scully in this thread, but feel free to slag morton, bennell, Bate etc in countless other discussions....

I'm sorry but I will insult no player. Are you really sure you want Melbourne supporters to insult their players?

Wonder how that would go down? Why dont we throw rocks at them?

Jaded and the Tweed Pig - you sound like you've been reading too much of Mike the self flagellating Sheehan. The more his pushed the happier I am for him to take his own sweet time, of course I'd like to see him sign with us but damn it he's just doing what he said he'd do.

and the 'very selfish' i think is unfair and flat out wrong.

Excuse me??? Nobody factored 2 knee injuries in this scenario. Tom now has ample time on his hands.

I want him to stick around, but i also like to see time used wisely.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
