These smug pricks remind me of essendon already. They say it is a 70 year plan to win hearts and minds in a place AFL is despised. This project is a waste of resources, while fracturing and raping the heartland.

I hate them already.Port in an footy state after a flag, are a basket case.I may not live to see a MFC flag, but I do hope to see this blight on our game FAIL.Hopefully quickly enough to rechannel the resources to deserving clubs/states.

Thoughts?

I want to see them fail. I want to see quarter-filled stadiums with disinterested bogans who give up on them after a couple of seasons.

I want to see them flogged mercilessly week after week, year after year and made a laughing stock of the comp until they fold and the Fat Controller resigns in embarrassment.

I want to see Gubby Allen take a very, very hard fall.

Has he had Botox treatment? I wouldn't let my kids near him. Nasty piece of work.

putting those two (G.A, K.S) in charge will be seen in years to come as a massive mis-judgement. their arrogance is exactly the last thing this demetriou-club needs to win good will. if vic. clubs and s.a can be stripped of players by gws by coin, how will gws hang on to their blossoming guns when their poaching window closes?

I think we all want this ridiculous, fanciful venture to fail. Isn't it funny that most people I know don't mind Gold Coast, were happy to see them get some success (especially since it didn't come against MFC) and even cheered Karmichael Hunts first goal. Can't see any of that happening with GWS. It is amazing what a little bit of decorum can achieve. Everyone knew that GCS were plundering other clubs stocks, but seem to have taken it much easier. And it all has to do with the people running the show there having a little respect about how they go about it. I wouldn't be surprised if behind closed doors Vlad isn't absolutely cringing at the circus that is GWS, and already starting to have regrets with personnel choices, if not even the venture in its entirety.

Gold Coast is an awesome place to be, especially for a new footy team as it's a pretty big area that could easily start a great rivalry with Brisbane.

Greater Western Sydney is in an undesirable place full of bogans where NRL is the premier sport.

Go figure...

And solid reason to believe Tom won't go IMO. He won't buy into the BS they are selling.

The Fat Controller's wage has increased by 275% over the last 7 years...i doubt he would be too worried, although he should be.

Sure. Give them a red hot start in the AFL... they win a flag in 5 years. Maybe go on to win five in a row... and kill it like the storm have.

Then once that excitement has died down, they fall in a heap and end up merging with Sydney.

Before tonight, i actually didn't mind GWS and thought that even though i didn't think the venture would work, i thought it could grow the game. Now I hate them and its all because of GRUBBY Allen, he seems to just be a bad human being.

Agree with an early comment this will help MFC retain Scully when he sees that man.

Man I wish you were allowed to swear on this site sometimes. I know it doesn't help the situation, but bugger me it makes me feel better. And right at the moment, I just wanna let fly. This moron Demetriou really couldn't tell his arse from his elbow. It is just outrageous, if true, that this "consultation" was disguised as a real input when in truth it was just a way for the AFL to look as if they had done the right thing by the football community whilst doing whatever the hell it wanted, regardless of the consequences for the good of the game.

Interesting that what he said about the CEO's was not entirely true. How can he explain this away. So in fact the CEO's had no say and the AFL had them meet so Vlad could blame them when the SH..t hit the fan. How can you trust this man when he has blatantly lied to cover his own stench. Honestly there is no stopping this man in achieving his own agenda. Bugger anyone else who gets in his way. Do we believe him when he says he does not know anything about who GWS are going to try and recruit. Pull the other one.

I can't believe the exceptional levels of vitriole and elitist, xenophobic hatred on here. And from supporters of the first Australian Football club, the one that wrote the original rules.

No, we DON'T all want to see GWS fail. I don't. Putting aside the personalities and bosses surrounding this venture, there is NOTHING undesirable about seeing our NATIONAL GAME become ever more national. That is one of the things I love about this game.......it reflects the unique nature of our sporting culture and our people, and it's popularity is rightly growing, and greatly so. To all of you suggesting that the creation of a club in one of the largest working class population hubs of our nation will somehow poison the competition, the game, or our beloved Demons, perhaps you could become a little less bigotted, and a little less afraid.

Your anger toward this venture is simply ugly, and plainly lacking in foresight. What EXACTLY are you all afraid of? Did you all have the same fear when the Eagles came in? Did you all resent the VFL becoming the AFL?

I played senior footy in the 80's as a schoolkid in Sydney for a North Shore club, and we used to go to the west to play Mt.Druitt, and Penrith. After avoiding getting my teeth kicked in, I used to imagine how great it would be if footy become the mainstay of those areas over Rugby League. Well, here it is.

It's a great game, and it's our ONLY national game. Let go of the sooky whingeing, suck it up, and celebrate it.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
