When he did his press conference i was so convinced he was staying that i got a new jumper with 31 on the back.

The longer this plays out the more of a distant memory that day becomes, but if you go back and re watch the interview or re read his quotes its impossible to say he's going unless hes a blatant lier, which is somthing im lead to believe he is not.

If he goes then his integrity is shot (at least from a MFC / supporter / team mates perspective), and if he stays then some people in the media who are spreading this 100% gone crap should be given a big please explain.

Yes, hard not to think that.

He will be a star no doubt, but I dont see the logic from GWS. He is effectively a draftee, of which they will have plenty of (and good ones).

I have no idea whether he will stay or go - but I am taking everything said by the people actually involved in the process at face value. What I 100% agree with you about is I am baffled by GWS being prepared to throw large sums of money at such young players. From a structural player payments point of view going forward - (in 2 years all their draftees have to be paid at negotiated market value) its completely destablizing. Whilst I am not suggesting that the older the player the more they should get paid - but players of quality get paid more coming into their prime not well before they have reached it. I suspect this approach of wanting to overpay 20 and 21 years will blow up in their faces ( and also cause a lot of grief for clubs trying to retain these kids)

Me either.

The only logical explanation behind targeting Scully/Ward etc(and ive heard Conca was even offered big bucks) is that they see a draft as a gamble in some respects. Yes you pick who you think will be the best player, but after a year in the system you can make a fair assumption on whether selection was a good one or not. GWS must have very little eye on short term success and a big eye on a flag in ~5 years time so therfore want to spend money on players who will still be playing when their super draft are also ripe? They are also covering themselves in the case that they pick a few duds in the draft by having a back up of younger stars?

After seeing Gold Coast largley struggle, even with Gazza and a few other decent older players, GWS will be like a lamb to slaughter if the above logic is correct. But surley it is along the lines of what they must be going for, becasue if the amount of money they are talking about is right then they couldnt afford a real marquee player on top of the millions being offered to these younger blokes???

But nothing has changed from Tom or his management. Just horrible journalists claiming they have the inside word. They are just hoping like Ablett he goes so they can say they were right. Really they have a 50/50 chance in the end.

The journalists are in a win-win situation.

They can claim anything in the end, and none of us can claim to know for sure once it has all played out.

If he stays, they can claim he signed a HoA, changed his mind and wiggled out of it - GWS had to let him go because they didn't want a player who didn't want to be there.

If he goes, they can claim anything has happened from the very beginning, or along the way, and no one will believe anything Scully says - he'll be branded a liar.

In fact, if he waits until the end of the season as he has stated, then decides to go, the media will have a field day claiming he has been signed since back in 2006.

In any case, they are able to drag the story out, hidden behind the cloak of "no-one-knows-for-sure".

Just keep re-visiting the OP of this thread if it's becoming a distant memory. Forget everything else.

I am treading a fine line, I do have faith in Tom, but I am uneasy and not as dismissive as some that so many people are saying he's gone (and with such certainty).

Everyone who says something in the public sphere says it with "such certainty"...

Tom also rebuked that certainty with his own certainty.

I will trust Tom Scully before I would trust anyone in the football media - as they have a problem that many media fraternities have - they like to be 'in the know' and be saucily whispered to.

And if it's true or false, it doesn't matter - there are no repercussions - they move onto the next whisper that tickles their earlobe...

After reading this post I decided to re-watch the video (here) and in particular what is said between 02.36 - 03.01 of the interview. So it seems to me that he would like to stay with Melbourne and he will wait and hope that his management and the club can come to some agreement when they discuss it at the end of the season. But until then he just wants to keep playing AFL.

@JamesNanks all I will say is someone I trust, who is extremely well connected, says Scully 100 pc gone. Sad but seemingly true.

Does someone please mind reply for me, I not a tweeper;

all I will say is: my source is someone I trust, who would of been one of the people of the other side of the commitment, says 100% there is no offer. Sad for the media but seemingly true... who is your source again?

Cannot agree with that all. Why would his intertity be questioned. If he goes it will be because at the end of the season he has considered the GWS offer (assuming they actually make one) a better deal for him than the one the dees put to him. Simple as that. He has every right to take this course of action.

I actually think his integrity would be enhanced as he would be following the course of action he (and his management) have been steadfast about since the beginning of the season, despite the inane pressure from the media (and many demons fans if this board is any indication) to make his decision (and the associated disruptive negotiations) now because they can't stand the self imposed tension. Good on him for staying firm and focusing on his footy.

The only way his integrity might be "shot" would be if he has, contrary to his public denials, already agreed to terms with GWS

My belief is that GWS are using Scully as a decoy and try to get bigger fish in the likes of Thomas, Goddard, Palmer, Walker and even Ward

Or Sylvia? Or Trengove (next year)? Making us pay overs for Scully might mean we can't afford to keep one of our other out of contract players.

Man Mark Stevens is really starting to [censored] me off! He just can't seem to stop the muckraking. I just tweeted him to come out and actually call Scully a liar or STFU. I'm so sick of his rubbish. I barely even look at Twitter lately, but every time I do, there is this goose, saying "mail is". AAAARRRGGH! I'm gonna blow my stack. Can't this damn season end so that we can have an end to this pain?

Gubby Allen on the Footy Show now being interviewed by 'Warrior' Barrett.

Never seen him speak before. Shiftiest, most smug bastard I've ever seen!

ATTN Tom ... DO NOT buy this man's snake oil!!!

Gubby Allen = Shifty!

But I did take note off his response to Damo's question re. Tom.

"Is there a deadline in place for Tom Scully."

"No! (sighing) Who says we've even spoken to him?"

Now I have no idea how to take this guy, as he is a different sort, but that would be consistent with Wolmother's reported conversation with Scully... i.e. they haven't even made an approach.

While I don't take to much from what Barrett says I did find it interesting they said a deadline has probably been put to scully like ward. Would somewhat hamper his waiting till the end of the season approach even if it is just verbal.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
