I know its reading far too much into something, but that might be the case if thiswas something in isolation and I dont think it is. Icomment upon the body language and demeanor of Scully at teh singing of the song. Is it just me or sid he look just bloody awkward there. He didnt really come across as 100% . Came across as rather mechanical, no spirit. Probably lurching at shadows, and I'll wear that but all these little indicators would have many an observer wondering.

Was almost tinged with a little of " I know something you dont"

In his case more likely he felt he went off the boil later in the game and working out how to fix what I bet in his eyes was a substandard performance.

The guy is a perfectionist he is never going to look happy until he achieves that.

If he goes to GWS he wont last, he will hate being in a substandard group, in a city that doesn't care about footy like he does.

This sucks..

He is one in a million.

The future doesnt look QUITE as bright without Tom

I disagree . No one person is a team. Without doubt wed al lprefer he stays. Bu itf he doesnt we'll do just fine without him. The ensemble building and froming will carry us on regardless of whether one Tom Scully is rthere or not.

Our future is bright...its whether or not Toms is ;)

Mr Negativity strikes again.

I never cease to be amazed at your reading of things RR... is it not possible that the use of the word "decision" was not intended to mean anything? It may have been Scully simply saying that he did not want to put pen to paper until the season is done.

You are able to sit down in front of your PC and think about each word as you type it and then you have the further benefit of being able to edit what you have written if you find you might have used a better word to get your point across. Unfortunately Scully, when suddenly finding a recording device or camera thrust in his face, does not have the luxury of a dictionary or thesaurus being immediately at hand, and is unable to revisit an interview and edit what came out of his mouth.

As I said before, the only people being affected by this whole affair are people like yourself who seem to get some sort of perverse enjoyment out of pondering as to why the glass is half empty. It is certainly NOT destabilising the club (they have clearly stated their position), and as a supporter of this club for over 5 decades, it is certainly not worrying me. Nothing I say or do here will have any impact on his decision, and if he does choose to go, then I will wish him luck for his future and move on happy in the knowledge that we have a team capable of winning a premiership with or without him. I would love him to stick around, but I'm not going to lose any sleep if he doesn't.

Man crush on this post

Maybe not.. He confounds many currently for he doesnt reveal much, but honestly in his current position he wont. When he eventually settles at where ever we might see a different Scully, more open and forthcoming....not all this secret squirrel sh!t of present.

From day one his personality has been pretty much the same.

Everything he does is atypical and will not behave like other players would in a similar situation.

If you look at it from that perspective and not the "he is hiding a secret" perspective then it makes sense.

Of course that doesn't guarantee any outcome.

But it does mean we will just have to wait to the end of the season because thats what he said adn he is not for turning on that issue.

I'm positive about plenty of things Hardtack. Not on this one.

We have a cultural problem at Melbourne. A ruthless club wouldn't have allowed this situation to unfold the way it has.

It should worry you and you should be angry about it. You're too nice.

Not sure how I should feel now :-)

Actually, truth be known, we are currently preparing the spare room in our Inner Western Sydney suburb situated home for a young "homestay" kid from down Melbourne way, named Tom; do you think it is unreasonable that we are asking $10,000 pw board (of course we don't include meals at that rate)?

No RR, I'm not too nice at all... I'm just not going to let footy rule my life. The kids get nervous enough on game day knowing what I can be like in front of the TV when we are not playing well; I'm not going to make their lives miserable for the rest of the week by fretting over young TS.

I dunno, he seems pretty angry with you...

Worried about the views you extrapolate from not a lot of info...

We can be paranoid, hand-wringing pricks when he leaves.

Until then...

Melbourne will probably put forward their offer very soon and he'll sign immediately. If he does wait until end of the year, I would suggest he will leave. Very disappointing but it hasn't happened yet so until then, he is a Melbourne player and hopefully he continues to tear it apart.

hard to swallow that every other club will keep its superstars but our culture cant keep tom

thats the disappointing part, that carlton, pies, rich have good enough cultures to keep theirs

MFCSS is back in force!!

FWIW, Carlton lost Brendan Goddard (a life long Carlton supporter) because of their culture.

Until they got Luke Ball, Collingwood had not attracted a big fish since Nathan Buckley.

Some of the cultures that have been growing at Richmond in the past 20 years, MFC can do without.

Just like that childish rumour about Jimmy & Stephen Phillips, if Scully had been booed yesterday, it would have been all over the media today. But it wasn't. Why do people keep making up this crap? Are they really GWS spies, sent here to create havoc among the Demons fans?

maybe it's not all about the money for tom. delaying the decision till years end gives him the best perspective on where the club is at and where it's going.

if it were me and i'm going to pass up the big bucks at gws i'd want to be pretty sure i'm in a good place to achieve footy glory. maybe, like the rest of us he's waiting to see if baileys going to be the one to take us to the holy grail. if the dee's aren't up to expectations you might aswell take the money and run.

A ruthless club wouldn't have allowed this situation to unfold the way it has.

So a challenge to you - which ruthless clubs would you be talking about ? Collingwood with speculation still rife surrounding Thomas who hasnt signed and Pendles on a 1 year contract only which is completely designed to keep him in the GWS window and put the pies over a barrel next year as well? Travis Cloke who put the Pies over a barrell with an Essendon counter offer before signing and has still keep him in the GWS window by signing for two years instead of the 3 that the pies wanted?

Geelong last year with GA Jnr ?

You keep referring to how it has "unfolded" - nothing has unfolded except one player with huge media pressure on what he will do next year.

Is Hawthorn a ruthless club ? When Danny Frawley suggested on Fox that TS be given a deadline - the Director of Football at Hawthorn Jason Dunstall looked at him if he was on a different planet. He made it clear his thoughts on setting a deadline.

This fantasy notion that the club is bigger than the player is just that - fantasy - and it is a fantasy that is espoused by supporters but certainly not by AFL footballers. Each season numerous players contracts are not finalised until post season and the reason people are so worked up over Scully is the ease of which he can now can go to a club which is offering the big bikkies. Our current captain dangled a very large Collingwood contract in front of the club but that didnt attract over 2000 posts because of the difficulties involved ( ie having to trade) in Green getting there.

April 24 2009 - who said this ? "I'd love to captain the Geelong Football Club one day, it's just something that would be great to do, it'd definitely be an honour. I love the club." - Gary Ablett

October 9 - 2009 - who said this ? " xxxx received rapturous applause after telling the Dockers faithful that despite speculation he never wanted to be traded back to Melbourne and pledged to seek another contract with the WA club once his current deal expires at the end of the season." Chris Tarrant

June 20, 2010 - who said this ? "I love Hawthorn," he said. "We have built with a lot of the same guys. We have almost grown up together and played a lot of footy together, so I love this club, no doubt about that." - Campbell Brown

Feb 3 - 2007 - who said this ? "And I barracked for the Crows when I was younger so it's hard to say what will happen. For the next 12 months, at least, I'm the captain of the Fremantle Football Club.

"I took the captaincy saying, 'We'll see after 12 months - how I feel in the captain's role, how the players perceive me and how the club goes'. We'll wait and see." Isnt this the kind of talk you want from your loyal captain ?

march 28 - 2011 - who said this ? - on weighing up options and to field offers from other clubs ? "There’s no problem with that, that’s the way of commerce and that’s professional football." - Of course it was Ruthless Eddie Macquire.

So to all those who ask TS to spell out his undying love for his club - take note of the above. For all of those reading into body language and what has and hasnt been said - read the Pavlich comment - and for all those demanding "loyalty" have a look at Eddie's comment.

In summary - what will be will be.

Yes... what people here are constantly overlooking is the fact that Scully's current contract does nor run out until the end of this season.

If I was under contract to my employer and my contract was due to run out at the end of this year, should I be affirming my loyalty to my current employer now, or should I be using the remaining 6 months of my contract period to weigh up all options that might be available to me and looking at what will be the best fit for me? Should I be talking to my employer about what they are prepared to offer me as an inducement to extend my contract with them and then looking closely at what else is on offer externally and making my decision based on what is best for me not only financially, but also in terms of personal fulfillment.

So, let me reiterate, Scully is doing nothing wrong! Scully is doing exactly what probably most of us would do if we were in that position.

So in summary

1/ At the end of the season we put in offer, they put in an offer

2/ He accepts our offer or he accepts their offer

3/ He stays at the club or he leaves the club

4/ Up until the time - nothing to report

It isnt that hard is it ?

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
