I actually think we will win. Good on the club in any event.

So if this fails, does he get 4 weeks?

No, because of how the AFL have that points system thing in place. He was suspended the maximum amount possible for that charge.

In theory, we had nothing to lose, except the $$$ that we put up (and the $$$ that half the team lost through their Twitter remarks!).

Thank goodness for that. Thank goodness we will not just roll over and let the AFL walk all over us. I was one of the truly outraged supporters on here after the West Coast game and i was furious at the performance but i must admit the last week i have been more proud of my club than ever. First of all the players took responsibility for the unacceptable performance against West Coast and Bailey ordered our players to bring their mouthguards to training during the week to rectify our problem with tackling and pressure. We then produce an emphatic response by coming out and flogging a top 8 contender by 96 points in a brilliant performance where the pressure and 1 percenters was just out of this world and then one of our young guns gets wrongly suspended for a ferocious but fair tackle and all the players stand up for their mate and voice their disgust, the club appeals and loses and now were not going to roll over and accept it but take it further and fight for our young Jack. All of this just warms my heart and im starting to really believe that were heading in the right direction. I love it and good on ya boys, i hope justice prevails and Trenners gets off and we come out and [censored] those bloody North pricks on Saturday and do it for Russian and grimesy! Go dees!

Nah, he'll get stood down for a year for bringing the game into disrepute and MFC will have all premiership point YTD wiped.

I think we will win too

You can't just let 'the rules' override common sense when 95% of the population is saying the decision is not in keeping with the spirit of the game

Or maybe you can if you are the AFL

Depends if they think they need to 'set a precedent'.....I fear the horns on Jack's head may be morphing from demon to goat.

Very proud of the club for taking this further. We have to appeal for common sense, even if it's not very common in AFL circles.

I have a strong feeling that he'll get the charge downgraded and get given a week, just for the AFL to save face and not look like complete idiots.

Well done MFC. Whether or not he is successful I couldn't agree anymore that appealing is the right course of action.

Interesting to see and hear the great support from his team mates.

So much for the disunity between this playing group that was spewed out from all angles last week. :rolleyes:

Good luck JT.

MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The AFL wishes to advise the Melbourne Football Club has appealed the three-game suspension handed to Jack Trengove for engaging in rough conduct against the Adelaide Crows’ Patrick Dangerfield, during Sunday’s match at the MCG.

The hearing in front of the Appeals Board will be at 5.30pm tomorrow, Thursday May 12.

Melbourne appealed the three-game suspension on three grounds:

• the decision was so unreasonable that no Tribunal could have come to that decision having regard to the evidence;

• the classification of the level of the offence was manifestly excessive;

• the sanction imposed was manifestly excessive.

Ends

Does anyone know who is on the appeals board and if there are any special procedures?

If we fail that what does anyone think about using the courts for an injuction (either Sports court or Civil courts)?

Posted

ok sorry have clarified its the appeals board.

Now, the board is meant to have independents....But Anderson has already coming out in defense of the MRP decision.

So basically, if the independents want a job next year they wont overturn the decision.....

Actually Anderson sounded like he is having a bet each way......

If this appeal fails, what player is going to ever tackle hard again?

This is a very important case, not just for JT but for the fundamental future of the game.

It was a reflex tackle, there was no premeditated intent involved.

in other news, it is snowing in hell

    MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

    Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

    Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
