I think Morton's slowly getting into it.

The FD obviously rate him considering they rushed him in.

Again, at Subi, Morton should get what he loves - space.

Frack, we have a lot of front runners...

Trengove, Scully, Mckenzie, and Gysberts balance that out but just not at the minute...

Yeah I agree that Morton is gradually finding his way, and I don't think the FD will actually drop him, but he seems to be suffering a bit from Watts-itis as far as second guessing himself and never having enough time to do what he thinks he can do. Space is good, but we are not handling pressure well at all this year and I'd be very surprised if we can find any even at Subi.

I think Morton could do with a game at a slightly slower pace to get his sights in. Although I do think his wing play would be handy at Subi (Patterson's, or whatever), I can also see him doing some damage with turnovers etc. Tough call possibly, but he'd be back the next week I reckon.

Give Ricky another shot back where he should be, and have Bennell as sub, not because he only deserves half a game, but because he could really excel in the sub role.

Like. Does anybody notice Morton seems to be a bit of a cheat? Seems to always be on his own way off the pack pushing forward. Yes he may get a few goals and yes it may look good, but it simply means there's an opposition player free somewhere else. Needs to work harder defensively IMO, bit selfish. But that's just me.

I trekked out to the Rat and agree that Ricky should get the call up. We're a developing side and can't simply be stagnant - Dunn and Watts could be performing better and it's wrong to ignore a 25 possession 3 goal game.

Taking a look at the FD emergencies could give us an idea of who's next in line, i.e. Warnock, Strauss, Maric, Pett etc. Seems as though after being carry over (which was Maric this week who flew up with the side) they seem to be not in contention for selection next week. Strauss Rd 1, Joel Mac 2, Warnock 3 all lost there 'emergency' tags the week after. It's hard to make changes after such a big win but i think they should be made, competition for spots = team performance, just look at the pies. Leave the guys that are playing well week in week out at Casey at your own peril - we can't have players thinking that average games and performances will be enough to keep their spot in the team.

Jack Watts will be a star. But, Jack Watts has not been playing well, drop him, there are others that are more deserving of a game ATM. He's not alone. Complacency is dangerous, if they're not playing well enough drop them to the magoos. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ricky/Strauss/Maz get a game against the Weagles.

Probably agree. If we are going to motivate VFL players and put pressure on the senior players we've got to reward the BOG of the VFL if it fits within the team structure.

Although I like the ideas of keeping a pretty stable team because we're very close to our best 22 atm (minus Scully and Mckenzie).

I'm really happy with our depth atm:

- 4 older players in Warnock, MacDonald, Bate, Newton could all slot in pretty well. None of them should replace a player from our senior team atm, but if injuries occur will come in.

- Youngsters in Blease, Strauss, Maric, Jetta, Cook, Gawn, Nicholson, Mcdonald, Evans all actually playing well at VFL level and showing that they are on the improve and developing the deficiencies in their game.

Bartram can have a week off for one of Blease or Strauss

Although in the medium term (second half of the year), I would like to see Bleeze replace Bartrum down back as I think he is an immensely talented and skilled player, his form at Casey doesnt yet justify that. Hopefully he can begin dominating games over the next 6 or seven games, then it could be justified. His dash and foot skills would eventually be immensely valuable IMO.

I think Petterd should definitely come back into the side but as for dunn going out as some of you are suggesting.... youve got to be joking?? Dunn presents really well, is hard at the ball, applies good forward pressure and consistently performs his role for the team. Maybe some of you are forgetting how he performed in the 2nd half of 2010 in some really important games-

Bartram has solidified his spot this year, not going anywhere. He looked a bit stiff, I'm assuming still sore from his knock last week. A week off and he'll be back to his best. BTW his disposal was 88%, second best on the ground behind Jurrah, so not sure how he 'turns it over too often'....

I'd go with an unchanged lineup, but tell the boys at Casey to earn a spot this weekend.

I'd expect to see Wattsy get a run with Casey this week too.

If I read these right these are stats from last year. He has done nothing this year. I love it how Watts takes 5 marks (2 contested) and has 2 goal assists in a qtr of football and this is classed as doing nothing.

Left field yes but i would drop Dunn and play Blease as the sub. No game the week after good taste for him. His run and carry on Subi could be a smart tactic.

I read Demonland before watching the game on TV. My god how distorted some posters view of the game is. A couple of missed targets at one point and we are the worst coached most hopeless side in the comp. The reality was that we had a result that was better than most expected and we played just about as well as we could have expected. But for missing a fair few goals we would have had a 100 plus point win...

I thought Watts was good when he came on. Couple of good contested marks, couple of good tackles, quick hands that resulted in goals or shots at goal. He looked to have some hunger about him which i liked.

With no injuries i don't see any changes. I agree good form at Casey needs to be rewarded but i can't really see any more than 1 change at best. But no-one immediately springs to mind to come out of the team.

Agree mostly. One change may be considered- Newton for Dunn. We need a strong body player in the team IMO. Give Newton a go early on.Another consideration is our forgotten forward-Bater.

Why is it some people call for Bartram to be dropped every week, as if by default? Do you even watch the games or the role he plays?

Given the size of the ground, and the likely lineup of our opponents, I cant see there being any change.

Watts will enjoy the space provided to him at Subi, will be able to roam a bit higher up the ground as I think this is so far what he's most comfortable doing.

Similarly Morton should love playing on a big vast wing at Subi, his running strength can be utilised.

The Weagles forwards are quite tall, namely Lynch, Kennedy and Darling. We'll need all three of Rivers, Chip and Garland to be on their game. If they also throw Naitanui forward, Martin may need to take hime on as a backman.

Big test in two weeks as to where our side is at against a fit, confident eagles side.

There's an elephant in the room.

Grimes' first quarter was one of the worst and most amateurish quarters of footy I've witnessed since the grand old days of Isaac Weetra.

And people get on here to blast Bartram.

Grimes has been f**king about with the football since the first pre-season game and whilst we can't bear to imagine that he won't make it I'd hate to see his mediocrity continually rewarded with a starting position every week.

He's very lucky there's no suitable replacement.

no way should dunn be dropped for petterd, or should dunn be dropped at all, he is important for our structure up front and takes the bigger defender, and he has not played a poor game. Also i think the Dunn is one of our best users of the footy, after he has taken a mark, and more often that not chooses the right decision, with very good efficiency.

secondly, no way should bartram be dropped, in a defence with tappy and grimes, both being rebounding defenders and players who are more offensive defenders than negatory defenders, bartram is a consistent defenders defender. he does all the little things right, his pressure work is second to none, and he rarely loses a 1 on 1. Those who question his disposal, sure it isn't a 50m dart, but it is much improved, and i dont think he has made many turnovers which have resulted in opposition goals at all. if he was replaced with strauss or blease, sure we may have more attack out of the defence, but it would lead to 2 or 3 more goals conceded, and i dont think that is something we can afford.

Difficult for the coaching panel to make changes this week, as from what i heard petterd and jetta played well, macdonald, blease and strauss played well and maric played well in his last vfl outing and was the emergency, and we had no really poor performers on the day, which was to be expected, but we have players who are at the ready to play afl, and this depth is a great problem to be faced with.

People must be crazy suggesting Newton or Bate should come in. Newton is totally useless to us. A short term fix it, maybe (and I stress, maybe), but no chance of being in our premiership side. Waste of space. And Bate isn't much better, and beside which, isn't performing at Casey.

Petterd is a chance to replace Dunn, who looked slow, lazy, weak and disinterested all at once yesterday. Dredging up his stats from last year doesn't help his cause, it only goes to show how far off it he is in 2011. Four games in, not one of them has been any good. If Maric got two weeks, Dunn's four should be enough for the FD.

Morton was good yesterday. People like to look at him in space on his own and call him out for being afraid of contested footy. Truth be told, I see it as a player who knows where and when to run into space. He always seems to be a link-up option or presents into the space on half forward. He reads the play really well, and combined with his elite running, allows him to play this role. Sure, he is still lacking physically and doesn't get in the guts of things all the time, but I thought he did well yesterday.

Agreed. The last thing we need to do is destabilise out back half. The back group of Bartram, Frawley, Rivers, Garland, Grimes and Tapscott, are as safe as houses. Building synchronicity.... grimes won't move I believe until there's someone who's strong enough the free him up. Well McDonald is strong enough but is a bit off atmo.

The players in danger are Watts, Dunn, Bennell is just hanging on, > Jones when McKenzie is right.
