Nice to see that the Jack Watts articles are slowly getting more palatable just as he is slowly developing. I will be framing the first newspaper article that hopefully says something like:

Watts on Fire! Jack unleashes his Demons with a dominant display

I honestly rate Hurley very highly. I'd pick him even over Jack Riewoldt, because that's how highly I rate him. Not too mention that Jack Riewoldt is a petulant little b*tch.

Jack Watts is underwhelming so far, but he seems to be unlucky more than anything. Just little things like weird bounces not going his way, just dropping marks, his kicks not quite hitting their targets, kicks dropping just at his feet, tackles just not sticking, and so forth.

Who would you pick? Hurley or Watts ...

Does it matter? It's not like the AFL is going to let us have a second go at it.

Hurley is a man, was drafted to play straight away. Like Rich, Hurley will improve but what you see know will be similar to what you will get for the future. Watts has unlimited potential, it has been a slow process but if he can realize his potential he can be a star of the competition. He is two years behind Hurley in his development, but I have full confidence once Jack hits 22/23yo, we will sitting back with big grins on our faces, some will also have egg on theirs.

I posted a comment to that story on the hun site.

Hurley a year older, two preseasons more and almost a season ahead in games - what a fair comparison.

Th thing that gets me is the need to microscope players that are in the embryonic stages of their development. Why not wait until they are 22/23 so you can really make a fair judgement

FYI - I am CEO and my ex wife is a doctor and I am horribly disappointed that the my 4 year old who was 4 months premature is so far behind the others kids at kinder at finger painting. If you are going to be the touted Einstein that the family is dead certain you will be you gotta HARDEN UP STEPHANIE.

Dermie is surprisingly supportive of Jack but saying he is "less comfortable (with body contact) than Hurley" is a concern.

You needed Brereton to tell you ?

yes because everyone from the 2008 draft is tearing up the AFL.

I for one would have prefered Beams and Sidebottom to Blease and Strauss

But I knew well before MFC made Watts no 1 that they would pick him

I just dont see enough aggression or fierceness to believe he will become a super star

He appears (IMO) to lack that natural aggression that is the hallmark of footy stars

Watts in my mind is quite symbolic of the team atm and the Hurley v Watts comparison is an interesting one.

Hurley is already a very accomplished player, much better than Watts is right now and the risk averse amongst us would take Hurley every day of the week. Watts is unarguably an enormous talent, albeit unfulfilled to date, with possibly greater upside than Hurley if he continues to improve.

However like the Demons list in general, talent and potential to burn, it would be naive to think it will all just automatically happen for Watts. He may become a superstar, and we may build a multiple premiership winning list, but a lot of water still has to go under the bridge before we're there on either count.

I think Watts will get there and I hope the team does also - we need to remain patient - but lets not get lulled into thinking either are a foregone conclusion.

All i hope is that even though we can all be a bit frustrated with him at times, he needs to be kept in the team and one day we will all see reap the rewards of his apprenticeship.

I really hope you are right

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

The Demons were blown out of the water in the first quarter and clawed their way back into the contest but it was a case of too little too late as they lost another close one to Carlton losing by 1 point at the MCG.
