I love this nickname around Stef, it is an experience indeed!

Played well and looked to have an appetite more than ever. Has everything else going for him.

Yeah I think your right, I remember reading something about him not having much aussie rules experience when we drafted him in the pre season draft. Was deffinetly a basketballer not sure how good?

Anyway I thought he was great today. His first season in 09 was pretty impressive as a backman but today really showed his versatility and he may become a very handy player.

Martin was on a sporting scholarship to Haileybury and was in the Australian under 18 team during his time there. so pretty handy.

Encouraging performance.

Last year was disappointing but seems to have had a great pre season. With the sub role his athleticism allows him the flexibility compete in the ruck and have an impact round the ground. He can also go back or forward if necessary. Not yet the finished item but the signs are encouraging.

I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think he started having a kick with his high school's old boys (old Xavs maybe?), then played a season with Sandy before we got him. Didn't play until after he left high school.

You don'r need to. He was a junior representative at state level & possibly National. He was considered Elite.

If Martin can continue his development I think the dees will happily put a line through a few on our senior and rookie list such as Spencer/Newton/Campbell. It will also mean players like Fitzy and Gawn will need to work that bit harder on their all round game to break into the side (I hear Fitzy has been solid in forward contests on the training track, no mention of Gawn)

Maybe the HUN was right, maybe Martin is our best kept secret.

A really good game from Martin and evidence that our coaches have a clear plan this year.

Teams with 2 versatile rucks are going to be better placed this year.

We never seemed to lose momentum in the ruck, indeed many of the swans centre clearances where from them reading Jamars tap rather than Mumford winning the ball.

Jamar and Martin should destroy the hawks in the ruck next week. Both capable of playing around the ground...hawks struggle in the ruck department.

I for one wrote off Martin at the start of the season and bagged him when the game began but I was pleasantly surprised. I was telling people with me that I never want him in the team and did not see any good signs from him in the pre season.

He used the ball, tapped to advantage and took some pack marks.

I was most impressed with his attack on the ball in the last quarter, on the MCC wing, and he dived into a large pack and got the ball out.

I will happily eat humble pie if he can continue with yesterdays form.

Not really. I think a tall, skinny athlete is more prone to injury than a player like Viney.

You cant understand the criticism E25?

His kicking is suspect, not too unusual for a rcuk, but he needs to be versatile.

His ruckwork has never been great.

When he flies for marks he often looks like he does not want to make any contact.

In the preseason he was more intent on kicking off the ground or from mid air rather than picking up the ball.

Yesterday he showed none of those signs and was hard at the ball, attacked the game and took marks.

He's a young developing convert that has been moved around the field, learning multiple positions and has had injury setbacks in his short career.

Agree 100% I was very disappointed with his efforts last year.

He has come up smelling like a rose since the games in Adelaide.

Look forward to a bright future for him, there will of course be poor games

but even the best have those.
