Frawley Twitted to say he should be right next week. Therefore.

In: FRAWLEY

I was disappointed in Maric. His pre-season earns him more than one senior game, but he did a couple of pretty soft things today which are inexcusable. Either way he should be the sub next week and Ricky should start. He was on fire when he came on in the last.

McDonald does so many ordinary things that sort of cancel out some of the good things he does, so perhaps he makes way for Frawley. Either way, BRING BACK CHIP!

If we assume Frawley is back this week, I would bring him and Gysberts in in place of Maric and MacDonald.

I would make Gysberts substitute, and start Pettard. Given Hawthorn's tall forward set up I think this is sensible.

The team would therefore be:

FB: Bartrum. Frawley. Rivers

HB: Tapscott. Garland. Grimes

CC: Trengove. Jones. Bennel

HF: Davey. Watts. Pettard

FF: Green. Jurrah. Martin

Foll: Jamar. Maloney. Sylvia

Inter: Jetta. Dunne. Bail

Reserve: Gysberts

Consideration could also be given to dropping Bail and bringing in Wonna. I just think he is so much one of our most creative forwards, and generally plays very well in the ones. Fitness would be my biggest concern

people calling for maric to be dropped i feel are harsh, didnt have the best games, but had 3 direct goal assists?

My only lasting memory of maric's game was his selfish goal attempt after Nev Jetta's chace down tackle in the pocket. I'd have no probalem with Maric being dropped.

If frawley is fit, play him. McDonald makes way for him becasue everytime he lays a tackle he takes the player high or ends up in their back :(

I'd also have no quams about dropping jones for Gysberts, purley to let him know that he needs to work on his kicking

I know we wont make this many changes,but i'd like to see this team;

Out: McDonald, Maric, Jones

In: Frawley, Gysberts, Morton

Rivers Frawley Barty

Grimes Garland Tapscott

Davey Trengove Green

Watts Petterd Dunn

Bennell Jurrah Jetta

Jamar Moloney Sylvia

IC: Martin Gysberts Bail

Sub: Morton

What I think will happen:

OUT: MacDonald (susp)

IN: Frawley

What I'd like to happen:

OUT: Maric, Rivers

IN: Frawley, Gysberts (sub)

Don't see Maric getting dropped after 1 ordinary game, but could see him swapping places with Petterd in the sub role, however if he is dropped I would love to see Gysberts come on as the sub in the 3rd quarter and win us some first possession. I do like Maric, but in my eyes I see Bennell, Jetta, and even Sylvia in similar roles but at this stage they have more of a repertoire, that may change as Maric grows as a player however.

Not as worried as everyone else about Chips fitness, it was a pec so he would still have been running, cycling etc to maintain it most of the time. Really don't see Warnock coming in, especially after the game Martin had. Garland on Buddy, Chip on Roughy, Stef on Hale, then maybe Bail on Burgoyne, and Barty on Rioli.

How about dropping Watts for Bate?

As we are still rebuilding this isn't going to happen and Watts needs the games to develop.

I'd like to see Watts go back to Casey and play as CHF rather than a rover. Ie., take contested marks.

I'm a Watts fan and thought his game yesterday was ok.

How did Bate go on the weekend? From what I've (briefly) heard, there weren't many standouts from the MFC listed players for Casey.

Jones will be fighting for his spot all year, the performance of Bail yesterday he was outstanding as our stopping midfielder and he will get the job on Mitchell this week. Scully will come back, Gysberts and McKenzie will get fit and push for selection, hopefully Blease can string some good games at Casey that will put pressure on Jones and other midfielders to perform or be dropped.

On next week, Petterd will start and Maric will be a sub, I think Frawley will play and MacDonald will miss. Rivers on yesterdays performance deserves to miss but this won't happen but like Jones, Rivers will need to perform or you will have MacDonald, Warnock and even McDonald pushing for his spot.

The Hawks have many players to be watched closely anywhere forward of their defensive 50Arc.

Not many that don't damage.

true, but i would rather grimes on shiels than burgoyne

Unless Frawley is 100% fit i would be having no change.

The sub will have to rotate from week to week to ensure no player loses match fitness. It was interesting to see the impact Ricky had when he came on. Introducing a fresh player at 3/4 time amoungst a group of seriously tired players allowed Ricky to really dominate. Next week i would consider making Jones the sub, providing we don't have any injuries we could sub Jones on late in the 3rd quarter and send him straight into the guts. Hopefully with others tiring Jones can win some clearances for us during the last quarter.

Rivers did well on Roughead last time - there's no way he'll be dropped, you can tell Bailey loves him.

Martin could play 100% on Hale fwd/back and ruck.

Garland or Frawley on Buddy.

Frawley straight in - he's our best player,Petterd to play the close to goal role, Jurrah upfield away from the goal square , where he belongs!

no way- Jurrah in the goal square. petterd to play just inside the 50m arc...he was CHF when he came on.

Frawley in.

Who goes a hard one but it might be MacDonald who has to make room.

In the middle we will need two taggers next week and Jones might get the gig on that basis rather than being a sub.

It appears the sub for the time being is going to be someone versatile from the forwrds.

Maric is the likely contender for sub next week.

One player needs more space and its not Petterd, why do you think Jurrah was subdued yesterday? His opponent got votes!

Frawley has to come in if fit.

Maric was weak and offered 0 today, I'd point it out to him and make him know it's unacceptable and make him a sub.

Petters has to play!!!!

I seem to have blinkers on when watching cos i hardly see Jetta do anything to great but others around me do but if Wonna or Gys did well for Casey I'd bring them back in.

Think this is a little harsh, i did think the same about maric not offering much, but after getting home and watching the replay, he did some good things, and set up a couple of goals/ shots on, i can't remember if jurrah kicked or missed it. also set up green early. Did some ok tackling as well.

And i am big on having jetta and bennell in the team, bennell gives us much needed pace, and Jetta's defensive pressure is actually quite good from my observations. But others may think differently.

Having said that, Maric will likely be the man dropped to sub.

Rivers doesn't deserve to be dropped, even if Chip does return next week. I'd rather see Bartram or Maric dropped from the side over J-Riv.

Someone give the man a Bex...please

Morton is still injured so that won't happen.

Rivers Frawley Bartram

Grimes Garland Bennel

Davey Trengove Green

Watts Sylvia Dunn

Jurrah Petterd Maric

Jamar Moloney Jones

Bench: Tappy, Martin, Jetta.

Sub: Bail.

Frawley to play on Buddy, Garland for Roughy, Rivers as third man up and the option of Martin for Hale if they play all three at once. Bartram would have his work cut out for him on cyril, possibly bennel to swap with him. Jamar really needs to take advantage of the fact he is far superior to any of their rucks. We'll need first touches to get an edge on the Hawks midfield. Seriously hoping they play Hodge and he is underdone. We cannot afford to start slowly against them. If they get 4 goals up early, it'll be over.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
