Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As I've mentioned previously, growing up and living for the most part in the Sth East, I've seen the effects close up on having Hawthorn so closely aligned with the area.

Playing out of Waverley and having such an involvement in junior clubs around the Sth East is a major reason that they now have such a huge membership list. Being so successful during the period obviously helped further.

MFC can't afford just to walk away from the Casey area. The opportunity to grow the supporter base is there, 30 years is a long time but at 35 years of age it is only the last 5-10 years that Hawthorns supporter base has grown so significantly.

The scorps may have backed MFC into a corner but had a decision to make also for them and their club. That is fair enough and it may force MFC's hand to go alone.

If MFC make this choice they have to stay in Casey, surely?

Money wise Vlad suggests it's around 500000 to field a reserves team . We already fund Casey to 250000. This is where it's suggested that for 250000 ( extra) we'd be able to run our own magoos.

From what I can understand there are quite a few issues the MFC and Scorps differ on,as to Melbournes reasons it seems only the club knows.

Maybe someone can Illuminate ?

They were quoted in today's Age as being late payments to staff, disregarding medical advice and MFC concerns re Caseys intention to build a large gaming venue. I thought Cameron's comments were very telling as usually he is very circumspect in his comments to the media so obviously there have been some ongoing issues for some time.

I think It's a stupid decision, Casey can recruit who they want and it shouldn't affect our relationship with them. If it's because the Melbouren FC now feel pressured to recruit Fevola for 2012, we don't have to. No point paying the 250k or whatever to set up our own independent club in the VFL, if every team is gonna start this then there may as well be the "reserves" again and the VFL will be destroyed.

Well now we are getting a larger part of the story "longsuffering" thank you for that insight.

There may be more to this than I thought.

Is Fev the straw that breaks the camels back?

Rather than an annual 250K cash injection to the Scorpions, maybe the Dees could supply the staff that would listen to medical advice, admin staff to distribute the payments on time and try to have more people in the decision making chain i.e. board members and such

I agree lets get rid of them. Melbourne means ALL of Melbourne not just some bogan back water on the cities eastern fringe. Anyhow it's to close to Moe.

I can sympathise with your view, but it doesn't work that way. People will tend to follow clubs which are based in their area and demographically Casey is in a growth corridor which augers well for future memberships but it is nice to have a whole of city brand.

Anyhow it's TOO close to Moe.

Before you generalise about a region, unnecessarily, might want to ensure you are beyond criticism.

You obviously work in marketing, WE ARE MELBOURNE must have been your genius. That bought a whole new generation of supporters to the club.

Not sure why the club didn't continue down that same path.

Maybe your insight could share?

Maybe you could come up with something rather than your very average attempt at humour.

Using the Moe card? Bogan is as bogan says.

I am not joking we are all getting worked up about things that probably won't happen.

At Sandy and Casey there have always been cases where their team selection took priority over MFC needs.

That is what happens when you have an alliance and not your own team.

Why do Geelong and Collingwood have their own teams?

So they can get their own way all of the time!

We along with most other sides cannot afford one so lets get on with doing the best with what we have.

By its very nature an alliance will always have differences of opinion.

Sometimes that means you have to "suck it up" this is one of those occasions.

Why not add another $10-20 to each membership to pay for a reserve side- i would pay that right now.

Who wants an alliance when they don't work.

You old Dee accept 2nd Best and for me that aint good enough anymore.

We are only a poorer club because we the supporters let it happen.

TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLES...! B)

The quote was actually "lack of respect shown to the club's medical team".

I'm betting this relates to virtually no MFC players being made available (for medical reasons) for Casey during the finals over to past 2 years - and Casey were very well placed last year only to get absolutely flogged in each finals game when they came up against a host of AFL players playing for their affiliates (or home teams).

I remember at the time I thought it absurd, and why would Casey want to be involved with us if we treat them like that. Peter German left Casey 2 years ago; presumably for this reason.

But why should we risk our players if they are in need of surgery? That is not part of any deal.

Back in the days that VFL/AFL teams had there reserves sides the purpose was to keep fringe playes fit, get injured players back to match fitness for the firsts, and to blood young players for senior level. If a Premiership was won in the mean time this was a welcome bonus.

Board members of the MFC AND Casey have an obligation to do what is best for the clubs they are elected to represent, here I believe is the route cause of the problems with the affiliations between AFL and VFL clubs. BOTH clubs focus is on there teams winning a Premiership and often this is a problem for the other club. EG: Recuit Fev, must give Casey a greater chance of a flag, the availability of eligable MFC players during Caseys finals games can also be a problem for the Scorpions. On the other hand, Melbourne would be concerned about him influencing our younger players, and as the MFC have stated it may restrict a young MFC players development thus having an effect on the MFC's push for a loooong awaited Flag.

To win an AFL premiership a club must have everything going for it, with a tough of luck thrown in. So is Casey a help or a hinderance to this end. Constructive opinions please.

There are a number of solutions, none of them without alot of pain.

Your sense of humour AND your excellent spelling precede you hill. Private school education ? Lighten up 'old chap', you obviously live in the area and are slightly defensive about it. We can't all live in the inner suburbs so good luck to you.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
