I guess we couldn't go a season without a Johnson on our list :)

Campbell a big surprise. Premiership ruckman. Can he play fwd?

Well done to Tommy Mac as well for perseverance. Lets hope he forces his chance.

This certainly came from left field. No complaints from me though.

It proves how hard it is to get good ruckmen. Hawks are in dire need of good ruck stocks, so you would have to assume that they have assessed the likelihood of Campbell getting up as being extremely low.

However, good luck!

Daniel Nicholson

Super speedy half-back with precise delivery who dominated the Victorian Amateur competition. Considered to have the goods to step up.

20yo 183cm 76kg

Michael Evans

Midfielder with good kicking skills whose talent is undoubted. Considered to have a big upside.

18yo 180cm 75kg

Kelvin Lawrence

Small forward with speed who improved as the 2010 season progressed. Had a superb WAFL under-18 finals series and was largely responsible for Peel's advance to the grand final.

18yo Indiginous 177cm 72kg

Cameron Johnston

Versatile player with no weaknesses to his game. A medium sized forward with the ability to play up the ground. Runs long and hard, with a booming and accurate kick.

18yo 181cm 78kgs

As I see it Campbell was a bit like Brad Miller in that he was told to be aggressive and copped a lot of needless suspensions. Curbing that aggression weakened his performances. Maybe the club is confident he can play without the "unsociable football" mantra of the Dorks.

Indeed - I thought the reason he gave it away in the first place was because his body was cactus.

It's a good pick I think - risking nothing as the draft had already been well and truly pillaged by this point, so there would not be much quality after. Already proven he can play, the only big question is his body.

The last few picks were always going to be used on mature players.

Very big fan of this move.

Ok, say hawthorn do get Hale, so we're still looking for a bit of an upgrade on Paul Johnson...

One from leftfield: Robert Campbell.

No?

If he's filling a need until the kids develop, his body would only need to stand up for a year or 2 at the most.

He was quite a capable big man in his time.

edit: spelling

Bails said they were looking for the right type of character for the team.

This guy has set up a business working with young footballers: here

so he fits that bill.

That cheeky smile on bails dial was "have I got something out of left field.

Robert Campbell (wiki)

A somewhat inspired selection. Certainly bolsters the Rucks stocks as of the moment (meaning not waiting for others to come on..and they still might )

Hopefully has got all his niggles either out of the way or managed. Id supose this otherwise why select him..lol

A Jamar-Campbell duo...not too shabby at all.

Exactly.

Grinning like a Cheshire cat.

He'll be like an extra development coach, and a very good one at that.

wow, i think I like the brown selection.

thought it must be some kid with the same name when the afl site didn't show any details on him.

so melbourne and hawks have done a swap of sorts!

Brown?

Now you're getting Robbie Campbell and Campbell Brown confused.

I'm not againat this deicsion, but if someone had thrown his name up over the last few weeks they would have been shot down and ridiculed. He gets selected and it's an inspired move. I had just got used to the idea of throwing Spencer/Gawn/Fitzy/Martin to the wolves with PJ gone. I hope his knees hold up.

No doubt Viney would have given some input into this. Seems like a good move.

Can't help thinking that Big Jimma would also love this selection. The following extract from Wiki "Robert Campbell, known for his dedication for doing good work in the community with not for profit foundations and community groups while playing in the AFL has continued this work in retirement."

Very happy with this selection, Minimal cost and bolsters areas. I don't recall Robbie Campbell being much of a forward, Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Campbell was used a few times by the Hawks as a full-back. Im pretty sure he played on the Neitz and Barry Hall types at various stages.

He played a fair bit of CHB too.

JackAttack, it was raised by a few different people at times since the beginning of October & no one has been ridiculed.

I think it's an astute decision by the footy dept.

Much like Richmond bringing in Miller, but our acquisition could fill a need and actually has premiership experience.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
