Welcome Robbie Campbell (Box Hill) Wow ! That is a surprise...Bails said so himself !

Thats one that I'd wondered about in recent past, to get a recovering mature ruck cheap that, Could possibly cover if the main ruck went down, to give direction to our young rucks. Insurance.

I suggested we recruit Campbell a month or so ago.

Can't find the thread, maybe it was part of another thread.

Very happy with this pick.

Fair point. Isnt Campbell older also? They must rate his ability to pinch hit up forward.

Remember Viney was a Coach at Hawthorn when Campbell played in a flag.

I'd say he had a bit to do with that selection.

Paul Johnson selected by Hawthorn in the Training Squad Draft.

Maybe they were after Campbell again, but have had to settle for PJ..?

What is the TS draft E? Not familiar with this

I believe you are now able to pass on a rookie selection and get a group of players training with you over summer to obtain your final rookie spot in the "TRAINING SQUAD DRAFT". I believe only Richmond and Hawthorn have left themselves this option.

Not sure who Richmond have. Hawthorn are picking between PJ, Nathan Ahmat-Watkins and Travis Tuck.

I'm happy with Tom McNamara, I think he has the talent to be worth our last pick. Really happy with the first 4, especially the 2 guys from WA.

Campbell is strange, but I'm happy with it. He should provide some leadership, is a premiership player and is good insurance, and who knows how quickly things can change. Maybe there is a slim chance we will be battling it out in finals with Campbell and Jamar in the side, with the big russian a weapon up forward.

I think the thing is that PJ doesnot play 'tall'. He plays a 'small', game.

IMO Campbell plays a genuine 'Tall' game for a bigman. And thats what we needed to cover Jamar with as the No 1 ruck. Spencer is progressing toward a No 1 type ruck, but IMO isn't ready, If jamar went down.

I was totally unaware of this Training squad draft. Am happy with Campbell, a worthy punt.

I understand the Campbell selection, there's 2 sides to it:

1. Why it will be good:

If Jamar and Spencer get injured we're without a primary tap ruckman, our structure will suffer and development of the entire team will be lost.

2. How it mightn't be so good:

If we don't get injuries to ruckmen we've got to find games for Spencer, Fitzpatrick, Gawn, Martin and Campbell - some of them will have to play Casey 2s which is not ideal. Does Casey have any ruckmen on their list? From an MFC point of view I hope not, but I can see why Casey wouldn't agree, particularly considering how few MFC players have been available to them in the last 2 finals campaigns.

Posted

Campbell can play KPD; Martin, McDonald & Fitz can all play as a KPD or KPF; and Spencer will likely be in the 1s as a backup ruckman IMO.

Yeah but they won't be learning how to ruck if they're doing that ...

Training, rotations.

It will be crowded.

It's a good dilemma to face.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
