After just reading whos been delisted from the club it got me thinking that now PJ is gone Jimmys famous number 11 is now up for grabs, who does every reckon deserves to where Jimmy jumper??? would of personally love to see LJ change from 48 to 11 but robbo got in first i guess...

hang it up above the change room door so when they take to the ground .

they can look up to it and push that little bit harder no matter how the game might look

Big Jake! Given the previous three wearers have all been ruckmen, this seems like the logical progression.

From what I read and hear of the guy I don't think he'd care who got it. Just as long as the recipient plays to the best standard they can.

For season 2011, i think that is a great idea. Means that all players can take a bit of jimma on to the ground with them.

After next year give the number to a player with the biggest heart.

Wait until someone steps up as a ruckman. With PJ gone someone will have to play backup to Jamar. If they do well enough then give it to them in 2012.

I'm with Nasher... give it to Spencer as I think that may be just the incentive he needs and I'm sure the significance won't be lost on him.

Give it to Gawn. Started with Jimmy's 37 and would be a somewhat natural progression to 11......

I have heard that Fitzy will get a big upgrade in number, not sure if 11 is on the cards though.

I'll vote for that. Make whoever wants it earn it. If they want it then they should have to beg for it and that way we know that the lad who has it wants it more that the rest and will make the number proud again.

Hang it up until a player deserved the right! It doesn't necessarily have to be a ruckman. Just a player with a big ticker!

Possible candidates: Jack Viney (can we hang on that long? Yes), Jack Fitzpatrick, Billie Smedts if we pick him up! Spencer is suited to his 42.

Some one like Jordie would have been perfect if he was not already wearing 13.

Give it to some one who has to battle/ rookie listed ect and really earns their spot through hard work and the like, just like Jimmy did.

Who cares if a ruckman gets it or another position, I'd rather see some one who has battled and worked hard for a spot on the list wear it with pride, rather than a 200cm guy cos he grew more than the rest of them.

My view is that a number can only be as great as the last person who wore it. It seems pretty silly to be happy to toss any old player in a jumper for years then suddenly, three players later (or many in the case of 31) say, "oh, this number is reserved for greats, you have to prove you are worthy of it".

So on that level, I think Jake Spencer is a more than worthy recipient of the great Paul Johnson's number 11.

In most cases I would agree. However, this is a special situation. My opinion is that, given current circumstances, anything closely related to Jim takes on more significance than it normally would. As a result, the #11 guernsey becomes a powerful motivational tool for the players, the supporters and the club itself. That being the case I would put it on hold until Jim's health situation is resolved. Use it as a new icon for the MFC (same as the #31) but don't award it to any player just yet. When it comes time to hand it over, let Jim or his family make the choice.

On a side note; I'm absolutely not in favour of giving first or second year players low numbers. Obviously Scully-Trengove was a unique situation (lot of marketing opportunities there that we needed to take) but, otherwise, make them earn it.

#11 is GAAAAAWN!

At this stage, Gawn is the future for the MFC. No disrespect to the Russian and Spence and all that...

Bang!

Spot on.

As an aside, we don't need Jimmy's jumper to be displayed in the rooms etc... the great man is still around and punching.

And long may he do so!

I think the club should get the 7/11 company to sponsor the back of its jumpers this year because both the numbers "7" and "11" are now available for new recipients. They could have a big in store competition to determine who gets which jumper. Both have been worn by club Brownlow Medallists as has "30" which might also become available if we don't pick up Tom McNamara in the rookie draft.

Agree.

Too much ceremony and pretence on jumper numbers. Just creates an unnecessary psychological monkey on the back for the recipient

Lets just get on with it and start developing this young side.

part of the tradition of the football club and a way of toasting former heroes

I agree with this. As for Jim, I believe greater more meaningful honours await for him.

It was a long time since he retired. Why wasn't 11 reserved then? No tradition in this when others have worn it since.

Can see it going to our first draft pick, and if thats a ruckmen or Tom Lynch it would make sense.

If it's not then I say leave it on ice and see who out of Spencer, Gawn or Fitzpatrick can make a play for it.

I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
