+1.

We all witnessed how he played vs Sydney... :)

I thought he was the 22nd best Melbourne player on the ground that day, that's why he was dropped. He wasn't bad, but didn't do much.

There's reports that all of Adelaide, Hawthorn & Western Bulldogs are going to use their compensation picks (at end of first round) during this years draft/trade period which would push our 2nd round pick down to 35.

Maybe Maric & Pick 35 to St. Kilda for pick 24?

Maric while he wouldn't get a wlk up start at St. Kilda would be on the cusp there as they don't have a lot of depth. With Gardiner, Blake, King, Milne, Baker & Hayes all over 30 he wouldn't have to wait long to be in their best 22.

That would be nice, but I can't see the saints doing that as they need fresh blood in their list for the same reasons you've stated. Replacing Milne Baker & Hayes within 2 years.

But, I'd take a straight trade with the Tiges for Pick 29.

I can see us doing a deal with either of Carlton or Hawthorn, for Matthew Warnock, for Pick 18 or 19.

That would put us in a better position for 3 or 4 years time.

PS: Then we could trade for Hale, as Deezman suggests with Pick 35.

Re Warnock? Why not to the Gold Coast? They have a gaping hole at full-back. Plus they have already displayed a propensity to recruit mature backmen. You would think if the pick was right we might even consider part of his salary. Then use that pick on recruiting a top backman ie Watson Plus the added bonus would be it might force the hand of a few teams in front of us. GC shape the top 10, we get a chance to shape the next 10.

That's the epitome of the bias that is rampant on these boards - Warnock worth 18 or 19, Maric's worth 29 and Hale's worth 35 - youve got to be kidding.

Warnock and Hale are worth about the same and much more than Maric.

Yes & No. Dont forget we can add value by adding in picks that we are not going to use anyway. (baring in mind we are probably only going to use 3 pick) So you are right on their own, but you could be wrong if we choose to "sweeten" the deal at no loss to us.

Well I don't wish to help them (GC Suns) as their in our window. So I don't wish to help opposition hurt us later. And secondly for me it's too early to ascertain just how they will shape up, their just a team of potential atmo.

I'd prefer Hawthorn as I see them the best option to stop Collingwood, thats gotta be a good thing! P19

Carlton I hate, but they could give us the best pick in what I think is the most likely scenario. P18.. I don't really want to help them!

That maybe, but I haven't watched Hale, I only know what I've read and that he's been struggling in a battling side & is 4th in their talls.

Warnock is a KEY Plank to a couple of teams in their window to the top 3, to take on Collingwood. That really pushes his value. 2 or 3 teams, maybe 4, will compete for experienced defenders in a push for the GF. Thats what I'm basing it on.

I don't think there's the same push for Hale, from the top 5 teams. Thats my reasoning.

Yep, Warnock's value is higher now than it has ever been and will ever be.

Spot on old55, I have felt sorry for Maric for a long time as he has not ever been given a "go" IMO

However the powers that be at the MFC do not seem to rate him very highly or he would have been played more,

On the basis that he has played so few games and never put in one blinder at Casey I think you would struggle to get a fourth round pick for him.

I believe the MFC should let him go to wherever he wants ( If he wants to leave )and take whatever is offered.

The only alternative is to keep him and play him for 2- 3 games in a row during 2011 to see if he has any thing!

Probably the problem in hindsight for Addam is that when drafted there wasnt a humungous amount of competition for spots.....and now there is.

But surely it would be a win-win trade. Look if it was just us and them in the competition I might agree with you. However, its not. IMHO this is a draft where we could easily "bookend" ourself with two top quality KP kids that could set us up for many years to come.

If Maric isn't worth a second rounder then he stays.

I wouldn't rule any of them out. I would just be chasing the "best" pick for us because its clear as day they all need the same thing.

Also interesting Why Blues are so keen not to lose Grigg to Richmond, because they know where they would get the "best" deal for them .. and its not Richmond. However, ultimately this is where the player holds the power ... he must agree.

Well, if you said 'maybe', no worries.

Another rule of forums wasn't aware of:

The inclusion of maybe in a post relieves said poster of any responsibility to the post in perpetuity.

Note: If the post turns out to be true, the 'maybe' then becomes irrelevant and the post & and relevant poster received credit that is due forthwith.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
