For what its worth, I spoke to Hutchy last Friday night adn he said no Melbourne players would go to the GC. I mentioned both Jones & Bruce and he said the danger of them leaving is much closer to home than the GC.

Well Jones has been linked to Ess amongst a few ... Did Hutcht wink nod ornudge inany team's direction ?

Well, if Hutchy said so...... nuff said.

Given our clubs track record of how we deal with our older players over the past couple of years, I think Cam can see the writing on the wall.

Don't blame him for keeping his options open, I would if I were in the same postion. My mail says he will go to the GC.

For what its worth I spoke with an agent from the Connors camp who said exactly the same thing.

I'm assuming it is impossible to wink, nod, nudge when wedged in someone's recycle bin.

. .

I'm just after a bit more justification for giving him a contract of more than 1 year (although I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that I would consider a 2 year deal).

Pretty much my opinion. One year fine, maybe two, but no more. Preference one year renewable on form

I expect him to sign. I trust the FD to make the best decision in whatever circumstances crop up.

Are we saying Sydney ( being closer ) or say Punt Rd , being very much closer ?

Would have thought there was a bit of room in a yellow bin .. Then again Hutchy isn't overly svelte.

The boot was definitely on Cams foot last time they went to the table and can only think a few at the club will relish it being on theirs this time round . Brucey was a tad princess when his last contract was done and might not be feeling so much of the love !

We don't NEED him but can use him for a year . How things change

Sorry Sylvinator have to disagree with the vast majority of your post.

I feel that he's slipped signifantly this year from being in our best 10 players, certainly not in our most valuable 10 players at the club. Whilst he may have valuable experience, I believe that he's actually holding back the progress of the next generation.

I'd contend that he's holding back the development of a defensive group consisting of Macdonald, Grimes, Bennell, potentially Strauss and Cheney from playing off the HBF or backpocket. Coupled with where Bartram and potentially Blease (as he played a vast amount of his VFL games of the HBF) fit into the equation, I'd contend that he may find it difficult fulfilling a role in Bailey's plan from 2012 onwards (thus a 1 year offer and not 2).

An offer of $450K per year for 2 yrs? - Surely this is way over his value. If Davey is worth $450K a year in his prime (of his rumoured $1.8 over 4 yrs), how does Bruce compare? As a financially responsible club going forward, why should the MFC put themselves in a position where it could bite them where it hurts?

Agree about bruces contract, didnt simon black take a pay cut to below or on 400k this season, and power to about 300 350k??? they deserve more than bruce imo

Would 300 for one year be around the mark and fair to both ? Probably why Cams looking afield

He's probably comparing his old contract, which was significant, to the one in front of him now.

And he shouldn't compare the two.

But when your salary suddenly gets cut in (almost) half, which is where those figures are, you usually don't take it well.

Posted

Definitely .. Was on great wicket before . Agree comparison fruitless! Would others think it's around 300 that's been offered ? One year is all that's beenbandied around .

If he's looking at 2 years who's likely to offer 750 upwards ?

Fairly well my opinion as well- hopefully he will sign a one year if not I hope we offer him a 2 year as I believe his fitness and form warrants it. I'd prefer this than he walks away and plays with another team.It takes experience and youth to make a successful team and with two of our current leadership going-I don't want a third. Billy- hope you fully understand what I am saying. However, note I don't want to see him as captain either.

Kind of - you think he has 3-4 years left but are happy to offer him a 1 or 2 year contract? It really does sound like a Junior-type scenario.

His fitness will always be there - so it should be, he's a full time footballer. What will happen is that the little niggles will start to take a week or two longer to get over, he will start to slow down (which will be a combination of his pace slowing and his teammates pace increasing), and equally as important, the opposition wont be getting any slower.

I think any games he plays in 2012 and beyond will be courtesy of injuries to other players. IF Blease comes on, IF Strauss comes on, IF Bartram holds his spot, IF Bennell continues to improve, IF Grimes plays a HBF that swings in to the midfield, IF Morton can get his career back on track, with all these things possible in 2011, where does Cam fit in in 2012? Let's face it, I haven't been unrealistic with the names I've mentioned.

As B59 stated, 1 year contract, $300k, with an assistant coaching role in 2012 if he wants it.

BTW, I think our leadership (group) will be just fine if he does go. Green = Captain, Flash and Beamer as Vice, with Jamar, Sylvia and Grimes making up the rest of the group (and possibly Jones if he stays).

Why? Why not give one, then if we need him for one more, then we can give one more. Why do we have to commit to 2 Yrs for a player we all agree will be fringe, now or next year.

AFL is not a profit organisation. The hard earned donations to club are not for fattening players wallets beyond their time. If he wants MORE, he can Go get it.

Who would you take out of a pick between Bruce & Black? Come on, Black is an outstanding champ of the whole competition. Premiership player x how many. Brownlow medallist.

Seriously better player.

I said my preference was one renewable on form

I said two maybe, meaning I was happy to leave it up to FD

I think we agree, no?

The FD are right to offer one year only. The main reason that Cam played 20+ games in 2010 was that Grimes was injured.

I will miss him if he goes, but he would not be guaranteed a regular seniors spot in 2011. Still a great utlity and depth player, but does not have a lock on any one position. If he goes I will say godspeed and I hope they give you a lot of money - you deserve it.

Horse before the cart. Giving democracy more credence than just life.

A birthright of life is to have a will of your own, whether it be us, or a horse. To impose my will over anothers different will, is cruel. Unless it is life and death decision. Then it be the law of Nature.

Just a thought.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
