It would be great to find a young developing tall at another club who wants out, or a club with a surplus of talls who is seeking a trade or a pick upgrade, but in reality I can't see that happening for at least a year or two. One because we don't have much value to give other clubs (pick 12 in a compromised draft and fringe players), and two, because we're not yet in a position to seriously challenge for a flag.

Daniel Curry is tall, athletic, skillful ruckmen who goes forward and kicks goals. He's 21 and and just getting his body right. Sydney took mumford and seamy in last years trading period. Watch this space.

I think if we got Lynch it would really be a slap in the face to Brad Miller. Around the same age, ability and height. No cannot see us doing a deal with the big Q.

Actually there are a few differences: The Big Q is 10kg's heavier, is around 4-5cm taller and can crash a pack of 4 players!!! PLUS he can kick the ball 20m further than Miller could ever dream of!

I'm starting to really get excited with the prospect of recruiting Jack Darling.

I'm now leaning more towards Lynch, but worried he won't be available at pick 12.

melb has no cash to attract big name players....and Roughead isn't out of favor at the hawks...besides with campbell brown leaving it opens the salary cap up. . .hawks are still in the premiership window.

That's why they need a defender. Their defense is sh!thouse and they need to solve that problem.

Don't think it would be Roughead they would deal with though

Q Lynch? please stop kiddin urself people

Lost mobility, can't get a game ahead of McKinley, Hansen etc when West C has no key forwards. Doesn't chase, is older.....

We want good players not duds who end up in the ressies ie Miller.......stop kiddin urselves

Daniel Currie is an interestin one and deserves a bit of thought

Put some thought in people as Roughy isn't coming and big Q is a spud

Lynch, Lynch or Lynch?

Wouldn't mind watching any of the above, as long as Lynch isn't commentating!

This only demonstrates how powerful confidence can be.

Instill players with the confidence in themselves and each other and what they can achieve will surprise you.

I'm of the opinion that Bailey is good in this area and understands its importance.

i didnt see the freo/hawks final that `robbie f` mentioned. but i have likened roughy to richo. could richo play? bloody oath he could. but as they joked on the footy show many times he kicked 700 odd goals. had he kicked straight it would have been over 1000. confidence ? pressure ? mind set? it dogged richo his whole career. round 1 roughy kicked 3 goals 5 against us , they spanked us that day. no real game pressure to speak of. just pressure on ones self to live up to the hype.

Oh the horror!

On Roughy though, if I was the Hawks I'd either try and fix their forward set up or get Roughy to play back when Franklin is in the team. He is just lost/ignored when Buddy is in.

Regardless of who we get, I don't know that I'd be giving up pick 12 all that readily. There should still be some pretty solid picks around that number, notwithstanding GC's priorities.

Re trading, I'd be careful about taking someone who's only going to be around for 2-3 years ... we need to be looking at least 4-5 years down the track.

Heard Dean Bailey on SEN this afternoon

Among other things he said that we need a big key position forward to play deep in the forward line

( not a surprise ) who can also play a secondary role as a ruckman.

.....

And what you may ask, was Watts drafted for? Not another hit up half forward FFS?

Good grief.

Yes I'm probably one of few not liking the way Watts is used all over the ground during games.

I, for one, want him to get accustomed to the ONE position that will see him be so vital in our structure going forward - that of CHF. Here's hoping next year, when he's put on the extra 5kg's or so, that he is used in said position 90% of the time.

Pretty sure darling got his head kicked in recently, wont op for draft till next year

You are correct- however will be drafted this year- b/w 8 & 20.

He won't be there @ 12 anyhow--- watched him closely last Saturday- looked a million dollars in the first half -then Watson went on him and he just couldn't get back in the game.Tired badly.Darling would do me very nicely at 12.thank you very much.

Really?

I was left a bit cold. He's already huge, and while he moved ok, he did about as well as you'd assume a player of that size would.

Kind of reminds me a bit of a poor man's Hurley. Which is as good as saying he'll be an ok player. But do we need another ok player in the forward line? We need one just a fraction taller, so he's not dwarfed by the bigger key backs.

Yep, reckon we will be taking Darling. If he gets to 12 but I'm willing to go with Kevin Sheahan's prediction that he will.

Darling ticks the boxes that Dean & co are looking for. A move to Vic could serve him well.

If we get then I hope you are right. He sounds like he has a bit of growing up to do.

But the kid just got his head smacked in? Fractured skull?

Surely that will set him back a long way.

McKinley says he wants to come home to Melbourne and several clubs are interested in him. The question is what would we have to give up to get him? Personally I think this kid has ability and looks a likely type. Look like he would become a good pinch hitter in 08 but his form wavered since then. Looks like he's able to play the G competently from what I've seen and could be suited to our forward line.

He's 186cm.

Look at our forward line, and tell me how is Ben McKinley suited? Because he's the same size as every other forward we have?

I mean really, all we have is McKinley types, but better versions.

Is it not clear we need a BIG forward?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
