Hear Hear ... If we have been talking to him for a few weeks yet he will choose the Hawks at the last minute. Then we should thank our lucky stars we found out something about his character before we signed him. However, I very suspicious about these media rumours.

Hawks have a better offer ( for Nth ) Hale might WANT more time rucking...isnt thatwhat irked him at nth...going down the order there ?

Well so be it. Is is not better we find that out prior to signing him? The Swans also have a better offer on the table for Sherman ... yet he the player wants to go to the Dogs. Lets just leave it up to Hale.

Clearly Norf are just playing the two parties off against one another.

If he chooses us .. then we have stated our price.

If he chooses Hawks ... then we just pull out move on and let the Hawks deal with Norf.

Immensely pleased that Harrington has a spine about him. Pick 32 or nothing sounds about right for Dave Hale.

He did not say nothing else- he said he would not give pick 12 away. That means he may tamper or give away another later pick.

This will come down to who offers more. You've gotta remember that Hale is contracted, so North are under no pressure to do a deal.

Hale probably said that he'd be happy to go to either club, and it's just a matter of North doing a deal.

If we can't better Hawthorn's offer, we won't get him. The question is, do we want to better their offer.

Yes, North are under no pressure because they won't lose him for nothing, but they are under salary cap pressure and desperately need to offload his contract.

I know the Hawks would likely take a calm logical approach to trades like I do, but I can't help the feeling they've got caught up in a jealous rage because we

were going to get him, so they've thrown some big guns at him without consideration for how it will affect their other desired deals or how Hape fits into their setup.

It's like they see him as desireable & think of ways to change their setup to fit him in, rather than targetting a player who perfectly suits the way they want to play.

I think Hale is a bad move for them, so I'd we don't get him I'll still be a little happy a out it.

The implosion of Hawthorn continues as they feebly attempt to keep their window open...

They need to shore up their backline IMO. AT least strengthen it without losing anything up forward (ie Roughead).

hawks are trying to drive up the price of hale...based on him playing 12 games this year he's over priced for anything more than pick 32 and we would have to pay him 400k (approx) a year...as quoted by the media!

north deserve to screw the hawks ever since the hays/thompson deal...

giving to much for hale now sets a bad precedent for our young list.

Gibson is still fresh in the minds.

If Hale is happy at either club then it's highest bidder wins. Personally I think our FD are very keen on not just what hale can do as an individual but what he brings to our team structure. They haven't targeted him because he might be ok, they are clearly very keen to get him. They will offer more and I'd be very surprised if they didn't get him. The fact that our FD want him is good enough for me having not seen all that much of him play

its Norfs decision because Hale is under contract, and he has very little say in where he could end. Norf don't have to do the deal, and will only do the deal if they some value in it for them

The fact that TH mentioned that you must be very clear what the starting point is and what your end point is for trade suggests that they may be prepared to go one step further if need be to try and strike the winning bid. Clearly the starting point is pick 32. If the Hawks have in fact put their compo pick received from the GC for C.Brown on the table, the Dees may have to manouevre via another trade of player/pick(s) for it to happen. Then again they may stand their ground.

Hale cannot decide where he goes, but I believe he has the power to veto any deal.

I think he'd be beneficial to our structure and I agree that we'll try to find a way to please Norf so we get him.

If Norf insists on better picks then we may be forced out.

Hawks, if they get Hale, will either try to put Roughead at CHB, Franklin on a wing or Hale as fulltime ruckman.

I think any of the 3 is unwise for them.

If we miss out on Hale no big deal he was being pursued as a stop gap measure. If we get him thats good but we don't, don't turn into a why our club can't land players. If we don't get him it was because we had a plan we knew what we where willing to give up at credit for to the club if the deal doesn't work for us we walk away.

It looks like it's happy days all round.

I saw the merit in pick 32, but didn't want to give up any more.

Good to see Harrington hold his nerve and let him go to the Hawks (hopefully).

If he does go to the Hawks, it will be interesting how it is portrayed in the media...

Will we be the weak team that couldn't land a player or the strong team that refused to budge?

Previous years we it would have been the former but I feel that we may have moved on it the respect category.

Either way we forced the Hawks to trump us, by using their compo pick. Hale's value is what it is. The rest is all speculative and irrelevant in the greater scheme of things.

We won't be the weak team. We presented well. We could jokingly add that out Power Point presentation went down a treat in the mean time. B)

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
