Tonight's light training run on the G is a good lead up for the Cats to the Preliminary Final against Collingwood next week.

It probably proves the viewpoint that it's not good to make the finals ahead of your time.

Particularly Travelling to the MCG from Perth yes, But if the MFC had the chance to play a final at the 'G i wouldn't shy away at all.

I see where you are coming from, the 2 new sides coming in will shite themselves for years at the MCG because every Victorian will Cane them Hard,,,Sweet

But its what the AFL wants.

absolutely...i think most people know my feelings on the white jumper by now!!!!! B)

Which raises the question why Geelong are wearing white shorts tonight and why the Dockers aren't wearing their predominantly white strip?

Great demonstration of what not to do against Geelong, from selection onwards. Pies won't have seen anything that would worry them too much.

I don't understand, how so?

(then again, what constitutes "ahead of your time"?)

Surely the experience of playing in the second week of the finals at the G will help the Freo players.

Few developing teams make a massive impact in their first year back in the finals after a hiatus.

I also think they showed some spirit to fight their way back into the game in the 3rd.

They were smashed but managed to claw it back to only 5 goals at one stage.

Showed character and will help them.

Yes it looked great seeing 2 "Proper" jumpers out there tonight, no problems with the telly either. nice and clear!!!

Why?

Should Freo have tanked the year?

With three rounds to go before the finals there was talk that Melbourne could make the eight this year if it continued to win games.

As it turned out, the Demons would have missed out on percentage (thanks partly to Freo's massive Round 21 tanking effort).

It would have been fantastic for our young side to have made it but possibly a bit premature and hopefully, the realisation of how close we came had we been able to win a few of the close ones will spur them on next year when their bodies are stronger and more mature and when they have another season's experience.

I think Essendon of 2009 is a good example of a team not good enough or ready to make the finals and the experience of a September thrashing didn't help them.

In Freo's case, they had a fantastic season but they showed a few chinks towards the end. It was definitely a worthwhile experience for them to make it this year but they're going to wear some scars into 2011 as a result of last night.

Interesting to note that the young Pies were pounded by 73 points in last years Prelim and have now had a dominate year. Obviously that wasn't their first dance but I think it goes to show that different sides recover differently. Though, of course, we'll have to see how they go next Friday night.

Meanwhile, over at Dockerland, they're not quite thinking like that:2011premiership rehearsal goes badly

What was wrong with last night's combo?

White shorts shouldn't be an automatic thing for the away side. Clearly last night it made a lot more sense to put Geelong in white shorts (on account of their white jumper) and Fremantle in their purple home jumper. Otherwise Geelong would have had blue shorts, and there's no need for them to wear dark colours against Fremantle. Or Fremantle would have worn their white jumper which would have been stupid as Geelong wears white.

Good to see that Freo failed to perfect our style of tanking and ride it past the second week of the finals.

Nothing, and that's my point. The AFL has taken the alternative strip policy to a point where it's beyond a joke. The alternative strip needs to be worn only where the clash is a glaring one and, in most cases, its totally unnecessary for teams to wear an anaemic looking uniform that's in no way representative of their heritage and traditions. I say, "get rid of it"!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
